The Pilgrim's Progress pub... I believe this will be the furthest extent of the redevelopment. A great shame to see such a character-full building demolished.

The redevelopment of Greyfriars in Bedford will mean these buildings disappearing... part of the same project that will also take down the present Police Station and Bus Station.

Wellington Pier Theatre rebuild

Downtown Norfolk has undergone some major improvements over the past few years. When I first moved to the area many downtown buildings were abandoned or in disrepair. Today, downtown Norfolk is boomtown. The building pictured here is one of the success stories. Located on York Avenue, just a three years ago this place looked like squatters were living in it. The building was gutted, given a facelift and today is fully occupied.

Over half way through knocking it down now!

On April 9, 2025, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that the world’s preeminent international airport rating organization, Skytrax, has named LaGuardia Airport as the best airport in North America for domestic and short haul international travel. The award was presented at the 2025 World Airport Awards ceremony held at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Madrid, Spain. The Skytrax award for best regional airport in North America reflects the success of LaGuardia Airport’s historic $8 billion transformation from worst to best in the nation.

“LaGuardia Airport’s evolution over the past decade is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted. “This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work invested in elevating the airport's standards, and Terminal B, in particular, has become a model for regional airports not just in North America, but globally.”

In addition to the Skytrax award for LaGuardia Airport, representatives from the Port Authority and LaGuardia Gateway Partners were presented with a plaque for Terminal B, which received its second 5-star rating from Skytrax. LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B and Newark Liberty International Airport’s new Terminal A are the only two airport terminals in North America to receive 5-star ratings from Skytrax.

Without any consultation from the neighbourhood, the City is now allowing 50’ lots to be halved. Dwellings such as these flat roof monsters, are replacing older bungalows which still are quite liveable and could just be modernized. Not attempt is being made to recycle portions of the houses as they just end up in the landfill. They will probably be on the market for upwards of $2.5 million each.

Revere Heritage Site

The Canton Community Preservation Commission proposed the formation of a Revere Heritage Site Park Advisory Committee for the former Plymouth Rubber grounds at the Selectmen meeting.

The Revere Heritage Site’s restoration was agreed upon under the Plymouth Rubber Redevelopment vote during special Town Meeting.

“The people at the Town Meeting exhibited a great deal of support for the Revere Heritage Site and I didn’t want to lose momentum,” said Lisa Lopez, chairwoman of the Community Preservation Commission.

Lopez discussed the CPC’s intended use for the Rolling Mill as a municipal building and the Revere barn as a museum. The museum would be outfitted with docents, screen films, and display town artifacts in what she describes as a “genuine attraction.” The CPC is seeking landscape designers with municipal park design experience that will incorporate residents’ ideas. The group wants the design to be flexible for passive and active recreation.

Lopez also proposed an advisory committee with a governance structure including constituent members at-large. Lopez said the developer is eager to begin demolition and is looking for feedback.

After some discussion, the board settled on three resident members.

“Going forward, we hope we can realize the vision here and that it’s not top-down,” Lopez said. “We need to leverage all the ideas and cultivate this great asset.”

Canton historian George Comeau said the open area is a gathering space traditional to New England that could host events like farmer’s markets and art festivals.

“I believe this is really an important moment for the selectmen and the people of Canton,” he said. “We’re charged to create this space. We’re fully aware that we have to do good. This is moment we make the community whole.”
