Had a very long work week.

I am reminded of the saying written on the side of a ceramic pencil holder my wife gave me as a birthday present several years ago, "Think outside the box, even when you work in a cube!"

I was introduced to the Bristol, UK trip hop group Massive Attack several years ago when I first started at my current company by one of the guys on my team. This is one of my favourite songs of theirs and I think it goes very well with this video.

Hope you all made it through the work week and that you're fully enjoying your weekend where ever you are!

Oh yes, and May the 4th be with you! ;-)

I absolutely love dragonflies -- they are so amazingly intricate and perfectly built for speed -- very aerodynamic! Thank you all for stopping by today and have a wonderful weekend my friends!

DSC_7010_Edit: Well, not exactly the longboat that we were hoping for, but a wooden boat nevertheless.

Taken in early June 2013 in L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I've been looking all over for this fella and finally found him in the swamp resting on this twig while guarding his territory. I love the way the red spots on his back look like hearts. He is really showy and I posted him first so he wouldn't upstage the more subdued one earlier-this is one of favorite dragonflies I was so happy to find him!! This was taken at Finzel Swamp in Western MD.

No post processing whatsoever.

DSC_7171_Edit: This is my favorite iceberg from our boat tour.

Shot with Nikon D3100 and Nikkor 18-300mm.

Some post processing.

I am not sure that is the same as in previous pictures...

More fun with 3D pyramids, this time arranged into a pinwheel like structure that turns on all 3 axes and changes opacity with the music. Set to music by The B-52s.

This 33 second video has so much going on that it nearly breaks Flickr's 500 MB file size limit.

Challenging dragonfly.

The red dragonflies reminded me of a very popular song by 小虎队。 Those who born in the 90s will not know :)

This is a side view of the Calico Skimmer. I think this stick was his territory because he wouldn't leave for love or money!! Thank you everyone so much for looking at my photos. (c) All rights reserved.

DSC_6046: I went back to Mapleton Park this afternoon for a 2nd field trial with my Nikkor 18-300mm lens.

Here is a sample shot of a squirrel on a stump eating sunflower seeds that people left there.

Absolutely no editing whatsoever here.

I was quite close to the stump and the squirrel was very tame so this is at 155mm to get it all in the frame.

An unusually hot and dry summer has reduced the Cumberland Marsh's water to a very small strip - no water fowl but still an abundance of frogs and dragonflies. Even so, the Red is an infrequent standout.

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, the suborder Epiprocta or, in the strict sense, the infraorder Anisoptera. It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body.

Dragonflies typically eat mosquitoes, midges and other small insects like flies, bees, and butterflies. They are usually found around lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands because their larvae, known as "nymphs", are aquatic. Dragonflies do not normally bite or sting humans (though they will bite in order to escape, for example, if grasped by the abdomen); in fact, they are valued as a predator that helps control the populations of harmful insects, such as mosquitoes. It is because of this that dragonflies are sometimes called "mosquito hawks" in North America along with the Crane Fly (which, in fact, does not eat mosquitoes).

Taken at the Old Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery. The Hatchery should be near the top of your list of things to see if your driving past the Eastern Sierra's on 395.

DSC_7893: Part of a series I took today at the Atlantic Grand Nationals car show in downtown Moncton, New Brunswick.

No post processing here whatsoever.

Instead of taking pictures of the cars themselves, my wife challenged me to take interesting pictures of car parts. Did I succeed?

If anyone can ID this mystery red dragonfly, please let me know.

Taken in Manteca, California, at the Bass Pro Shop pond. Sometimes all we can do is hang on. At the end of the passage of Scripture, where it tells us to put on the full armor of God, Paul tells us, and when you have done all you can do to stand, then stand. So, hang on, stand your ground, and keep persevering. Because at some point, the circumstances will change, and in a moment, God can resolve your problems. Hoping all your circumstances will come up sunny and wonderful

DSC_6123_Edit: Just cropping.

Shot with Nikkor 18-300mm lens @ 300mm / 16.7x zoom.

Note there is A LOT of cropping going on here because I really wanted to show the detail of the craters on the moon's surface. Something that I couldn't really do with my 55-300mm lens.

The dragonflies are so colorful down here in south Florida, bright red, pink & purple, blue, green, and yellow. There is a pond by the building I live in, and it is teeming with dragonflies. I love to watch them dart around when I’m taking my dog, Mo, for a walk.

The detail isn’t that great on this shot because this dragonfly would not let me get close to him, so I was rather far away and cropped this shot in post processing. But I do like the composition of this shot, and the bright red dragonfly against the marbled background bokeh. The BG is water and aquatic plants in the pond.

I saw two of these yesterday afternoon in the garden. I have no idea what they are, so if anyone knows, I'd love to id them.

--I looked online, it might be a scarlet skimmer, but I'm not certain.

The delicate lines and patterns of dragonfly wings never cease to amaze me.
