The color of this dragonfly suddenly attracted my attention to chase it around our garden. Finally, I caught it resting on one of my exotic plant. This is a closer look at the purple and red flying creature. My daughter loves this.
With chilly nights and shorter days it's been too cool for most of the butterflies and dragonflies in the gardens. But this bright red male Autumn Meadowhawk (Odonate sympetrum vicinum) was there last evening following us and catching the last bit of light. :)
Saw at least 6 there today. June 03,2022. Worth looking up on the web ! Scarlet Percher dragonflies.
During these days when I can't get out to photograph, I'm going back through files, looking at some of the images I had never put into a processing queue for future use. Happily, there are some there of interest.
The wing veining on this dragonfly is not symmetrical, but nearly so. One wonders about the DNA strands and the pattern variations,.
This VERY small dragonfly landed just a few feet from me and perched on this leaf for the longest time. He was so small it took my camera forever to finally focus on him and not the leaf he was perched on.
I believe this very colorful little dragonfly is a male Eastern Amberwing. Please let me know if you know differently.
Simply dazzling at Dauset Trails Nature Center.
The wind was blowing quite strongly and this guy had no choice but to come back to this branch that could better withstand the blow compared to other plants around.
I sat myself right infront and waited for him to come for this shot!
From a simple Dragonfly shot which let me recall my memory
of the old days chasing for the RED DRAGONFLY in the green field.
I am missing those wonderful days and so do I miss all the old friends
of the childhood.
How have you been, my old friends?
Let me present this RED DRAGONFLY as my warmest regards
Created this motion graphic for this week's theme of "Time" on the Moncton Photography Facebook page. With a tip of the (bowler) hat to John Cleese in one of his most iconic roles in Monty Python's Flying Circus - The Ministry of Silly Walks. One of my good friends recently commented that my last animation was "Terry Gilliam Mk II". =)
I bought the Cleese / Ministry of Silly Walks watch some time ago. They are made by the Unemployed Philosopher's Guild.

EASTERN PYGMYFLY (Nannophya dalei) is a diminutive red dragonfly with a crimson tail that resembles a red-hot poker, the eastern pygmyfly inhabits boggy seepages and swamps.
It is Soo difficult to get a photo of these mated dragonflies - as they are Soo busy flying n not stop at a place a second
Every ounce of restraint I had oozed onto the sidewalk when I saw this guy by the front door. I had to wait for the dogs to finish their buisness, and then calmly go inside to get the camera and change lenses. Just as I got into position this beauty flew away, but quickly returned noticing the doofus with the fumble fingers wasn't a threat. Fortunately I had enough time to "practice" before the model grew weary, and the session was over.

On my first trip to the Rowlett Creek Nature Preserve there were lots of dragonflies and damselflies. Including this beautiful neon skimmer. Only the 3rd I've seen. Always makes me wish I had brought sunglasses with me.

Day 287/365; Week 41 Theme: Nature's splendour (Oct 10-Oct 16)
The day before I took a shot of an eastern pondhawk and wondered if it would be my last dragonfly shot of the year. So this lovely meadowhawk showed up to give me another. This is my third "red" individual this year, more than I usually see. Whether it's three species or just two, I don't know--I'm not an expert with the pondhawks. But I think this one is thinner and suspect it's a second species of pondhawk and thus a third red species in one year.
