During the months in rehab it never occurred to me that I was still vulnerable. Once I'd crossed the threshold I never craved drink, never sought a way out, never thought that I maybe need a few more months to prepare for this, never hoped that I'd be able to go back to some sort of 'social' drinking. I had no idea how rehab & recovery worked but guessed that 'work' was a useful way to start. So I worked. I made lists, typed autobiographies, wrote letters to myself in the future, visualised, created affirmations, started on 'self-talk', read psychology old & new, revised child development, reprised history, created scenarios, lived the life of sobriety. I played at being sober & whole; or at least my idea of it.

According to people at the scene, unconfirmed, an intoxicated man had an arguement in one of the houses in this subdivision, stormed out of the house, and drove down the road at a high rate of speed. Some witnesses say he was travelling as fast as 70 MPH. He apperently either lost control, or simply missed the turn, and drove straight into the pond. The man exited the vehicle as it sank. Nobody else was in the vehicle, and he supposedly sustained minor injuries. Witnesses say he refused a breath test, and was subsequently arrested for DWI. The incident occured approximately 11:00 AM on January 1st of 2013.

This 2019 MAN TGL recovery truck was seen parked in its owner's yard near Linlithgow, Scotland, in the silver and red colour scheme of McPhie Recovery. The company is able to recover all kinds of vehicles ranging from the largest to smallest with their sizeable fleet, which has a variety of brand new lorries as well as older models. This particular MAN is used for lighter recovery jobs such as broken-down cars and vans; and it has been owned by McPhie since new.

The earthquake and tsunami which struck the region on 26th December 2004 greatly impacted the local built environment, especially the crucial tourism industry. Recovery and reconstruction began soon after the disaster. For example, some tourist and consumer services were able to resume within a month of the disaster.

Recovery Buckets

Immediately after surgery, fish are placed in buckets containing super-oxygenated water. This allows them to recover from the effects of the anesthesia and gives biologists the opportunity to assess their post-operative condition. The yellow labels are part of the record-keeping system ensuring that the location of each fish and tag is known from implantation to release. The black cables emerging from the bucket are part of an acoustic-telemetry receiver on a nearby table that is used to verify that the implanted tags are still functional. The white timer on top of the bucket keeps track of how long fish have been in recovery water. Fish are not loaded onto the transport truck until they have had sufficient recovery time and exhibit normal behavior.

The Experimental Breeder Reactor-II (EBR-II), shown here, provided most electricity needed at Argonne National Laboratory-West's facilities for 30 years. It was shut down in 1994 and transferred to Idaho National Laboratory in 2005, where significant progress has been made toward decontaminating the site and preparing the reactor for demolition.
