No, I couldn't believe my eyes either. There were about four guys involved in this recovery in Pontnewydd, south Wales. I'd like to think that at least one of them might have questioned the wisdom, let alone the legality, of this solution before being overruled.

These projects will restore connections of streams to regional river systems, enhance fish passage and reduce the risk of flooding and dam failure during future storm events. Two dams will be removed and one fishway will be repaired or replaced on the Pawcatuck River in Rhode Island and Connecticut. One dam will be removed from the Mattatuxet River in North Kingstown, Rhode Island where 0.5 mile of stream access will be restored and a new natural riparian area will be created in a former water impoundment. This will benefit river herring and American eel.

U.S. Soldiers from the S.C. Army National Guard work to prepare a UH-60 Black Hawk from Detachment 2, Company F, 1-171st General Support Aviation Battalion, S.C. Army National Guard, for sling-load movement to McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Eastover, S.C. Dec. 7, 2014. The Black Hawk made an emergency landing in an open field Dec. 3, 2014 due to a main rotor blade malfunction in Columbia, S.C. The Black Hawk was released by the Accident Review Board for recovery and was being transported via sling-load under a S.C. Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter from Detachment 1, B-Company, 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion, S.C. Army National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility in Greenville, S.C. In 1793, Gen. Mad Anthony Wayne led a third expedition against the Indians. On this site where St. Clair met defeat, he built a post significantly named Fort Recovery, Dec. 23-26, 1793. Here was won the battle of Fort Recovery, the most signal victory of the Indian Wars. Early in the morning of June 30, 1794, a force of nearly 2,000 Indians under Chief Little Turtle, together with Canadian militiamen and British officers, attacked a supply convoy near the fort. This detachment retreated within the stockade after losing its commander, Maj. William McMahon. The battle continued into the following day. Then the Indians retreated, beaten and divided , never again to gather in such force to challenge Wayne. A British officer present at the battle wrote in his diary: "Such a disappointment was never met with." The battle of Fort Recovery was followed by Wayne's decisive defeat of the Indian Confederacy at Fallen Timbers, Aug. 20, 1794. The following year. The Treaty of Greeneville was signed, Aug. 3, 1795 which placed the Indians under the control of the United States and opened the Northwest Territory, in part, to peaceful American settlement.
St. Clair's Defeat
When American pioneers attempted to settle the Northwest Territory following the ordinance of 1787, the Indians, aided by the British, fought fiercely for their homes. The first United States Army sent to break the Indian resistance was commanded by Gen. Josiah Harmar. It met defeat (1790) at the Miami Indian villages (present Fort Wayne).
Gen. Arthur St. Clair, the Territorial Governor, made the second attempt with a badly trained army. He marched north from Fort Washington (Cincinnati) and reached this place on the evening of Nov. 3, 1791. The following morning, the army found itself surrounded by an Indian force commanded by Chief Little Turtle. After a furious battle, St. Clair's troops broke through the enemy encirclement and retreated southward. Here on this field, they left approximately 900 dead and wounded, in what is, relatively, the most disastrous defeat ever to befall an American army. Victory was yet to be won.

Michael Kawaters was selling insurance on a temporary basis when a family friend told him about an opening at Argonne. Kawaters, just a few years out of college, applied and landed a job as an ARRA-funded nuclear technician, helping remove waste from the Alpha Gamma Hot Cell (above).
Argonne has received significant funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), allowing us to accomplish a number of important goals while putting Americans back to work. During a storm from the Northwest on the 21st of february 1993, a 20-foot container washed upon the beach of Vlieland, the Netherlands.
The very heavy container was salvaged with the help of the Leopard I armoured recovery vehicle of the CSK tank gunnery range on the island.
The container appeared to be laden with sacks of Bigolac milk powder, a cattle-food.
After the salvage the container was shipped back to the factory.
The images in the set give an impression of this nightly operation in stormy weather on the water covered Vliehors.
