My students at school were challenged to read and earn points using the Accelerated Reader program. If they earned it by Friday, February 15th then I would shave my hair into a Mohawk. For each week that the students had more than 1,000 points I would add on an extra day of the Mohawk - they earned a total of 3 extra days!
We had to cut the Mohawk way back because we couldn't get it to stand right (I have very thick hair). This is the finished product.
Citadel -- "...a mesmerizing World War II story of daring and courage, in which a group of determined women fighting for the French Resistance risk their lives to save their homeland . . . and protect astonishing secrets buried in time.
France, 1942. In Carcassonne, a colorful historic village nestled deep in the Pyrenees, a group of courageous women are engaged in a lethal battle. Like their ancestors who fought to protect their land from Northern invaders seven hundred years before, these members of the resistance—codenamed Citadel—fight to liberate their home from the Nazis.
But smuggling refugees over the mountains into neutral territory and sabotaging their German occupiers at every opportunity is only part of their mission. These women must also protect an ancient secret that, if discovered by their ruthless enemies, could change the course of history." -- from www.amazon.com
I almost gave up on this book in the first 150-200 pages because the story didn't seem to be going anywhere, but then things picked up and I really enjoyed the last two-thirds of the book.

I really enjoyed this book...it was extremely well-written. It was a new but definitely believable take on an old myth.

One of many attempts to get the Mohawk to stay up - not successful.

Digging Through History -- "Digging through History follows rabbi and archaeologist Richard Freund's journey through some of the most fascinating archaeological sites of human history—including the mysterious Atlantis, Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the long-buried Holocaust camp Sobibor. Each chapter takes readers through a different archaeological site, showing what we can learn about past religious life and religious faith through the artifacts found there, as well as what has given each site such strong "staying power" over time" -- from www.amazon.com
Very interesting book and chock full of information...the author was extremely enthusiastic about his subject -- I never thought I'd describe a non-fiction book as gushing happiness but this one qualifies.
