Plus longue plage de l'île de Ré, la conche des Baleines est un lieu stratégique, elle abrite plusieurs blockhaus de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale qui ont inspiré le réalisateur du film "Le Jour le plus long"
Afin de trouver le décor parfait pour la réalisation de son film
"Le Jour le plus long", le producteur hollywoodien, Darryl F.Zanuck décide de tourner les scènes de débarquement sur l'île de Ré, pour ses plages de sable, semblables à celles de la côte normande.
Les prises les plus importantes sont réalisées sur la conche des baleines devenue "Omaha Beach".
Le passage aménagé à l'époque dans la dune garde aujourd'hui encore le nom de "Pas de Zanuck".
Longest beach of the island of Ré, the conche des Baleines is a strategic place, it houses several blockhouses of the Second World War that inspired the director of the film "The Longest Day"
In order to find the perfect setting for the realization of his film
"The Longest Day", the Hollywood producer, Darryl F.Zanuck decides to shoot the landing scenes on the island of Ré, for its sandy beaches, similar to those on the Normandy coast.
The most important catches are made on the whale conche which has become "Omaha Beach".
The passage built at the time in the dune still retains the name of "Pas de Zanuck".

Another in my series of salvage and re-edit projects. I posted this shot a few years back, and if anyone feels so inclined they can dig through my photostream for it, but I promise you it's garbage.
While I know if I had a chance to re-take this photo, I would do a far better job today than I did back then, I'm still ecstatic with how well Lightroom handled a difficult task. My post processing has also vastly improved. Huzzah for powerful software!

I've been wanting to go back and re-edit this for quite a while, and yesterday I found the perfect excuse when my Business Photography teacher told me I should enter my elements series in a contest. When I first edited the photo it was before I knew enough to save a psd of the composited image before I merged, so I went back and re-converted the RAW's and re-expanded.
I'm really happy with the re-edit! It's a lot cleaner. I realized that part of the reason the first edit was so rough looking was becasue I had a longer shutter speed while shooting and didn't hold the camera still enough for some of the shots, so some areas still aren't, and won't be, perfect but it's a whole lot better! I also wanted to do some manipulation on the dress so that she didn't look like her body was a triangle, as it is in the original. And I wanted the water jug and water to be a lot more clear than they were. I included a close up so you can see that better. (seriously compare this close up shot to the one I included on the original. It's soooo much better). I also did a B/W version!
So nice to actually see and feel like I've improved!!
Featherless Sunday today. The swarms or Luber grasshopper nymphs are back on the Marsh Trail. They are all over the inner sections.

The backdrop bokeh is Lythrum salicaria, spiked loosestrife,
these are by our Kitchen window and are loaded with Bumblebees and white butterflies till the end of blooming time,
This is the second time the Columbine is blooming,
first back in May 1.
