“Ray” encompasses everything that is light, joy and sunshine and is inspired by a jolly Plymouth man and his yellow umbrella. I also wanted to give the sun-fish the colour and vibrancy its namesake deserved and so coupled its unique fin and tail structure with that of the sunflower. My aim, with this design is to remind us that it is the people that make our city special, and inject an additional ray of sunshine into the landscape, hopefully inspiring at least one passing smile.
