1 Sun behind from Rim!

I've had some not so bright ideas in the past, but covering my entire head in duct tape is probably right up there with the best(worst of them). Breathing through this stuff is next to impossible, a fact I discovered only after covering my mouth and nose in it, a speedy run to the knife drawer was required. It's also VERY itchy and irritating on the skin once its on and also VERY sweaty. I'll not even mention getting it unwrapped from my head, I'll just consider myself fortunate that I still have eyebrows.

Inspired by the weird world of Scott MacBride, go check his stream here, it's well worth a look!

Who needs a FourSquare, if he can have a SIXSQUARE ?!

+ build in one hour for under 50 bucks

+ use the ability to shoot through the hole (= ringflash) or not (= soft large light)

+ more powerful than a Four Square

+ much, much more powerful than Orbis or Rayflash

It only takes 35 bucks for the parts and 1..2 hours work.

TRIGGERING

As this is a ringlight and normally it is used in a way that makes the background nicely visible, you will have some sort of reflective surface right in front of the flashes.

So I use it in a way, that I trigger *one* flashgun via one YN-602 RF module, and the other five are just running as optical slaves ...

---

LESSONS LEARNED

- use a fire extinguisher as template to bend the rod :-)

- use Loctite Screwlock on all the screws, once it is all in place and fits nicely

- use a longer 1/4'' screw for the base, one made out of steel

- tighten the screws in the little coldshoes **really, reallyl ** well

Not enough of these are staying in my hands.

Lit by ray flash, 36mm extension tube used.

I came home sick this afternoon from work and laid down until almost 8pm this evening... When I got up and around I decided to mess with compositing in Photoshop (CS2). While I am not the best Photoshop user, I did enjoy my relaxing time making this image.

This is a composite of 3 images and a texture. All post work was done in PS. The background shots were taken in broad daylight but I thought they looked cool darkened a bit like this. The shot of me was taken with 3 strobes. A 580EX II on camera with the Rayflash Ringflash adapter, a 580EX II camera right in an Apollo JS Softbox (50"x50"), and a third strobe was used camera left and bare for rim light.

Had a couple of ideas for the theme of "Minimalist" for the 52 of 2012, but settled on this as something that had been floating in my head since she got the coat.

Kambi at 10 months.

Straight out of camera, nothing added, nothing taken away :) Manual focus and I got this

on the first attempt (which is more luck than skill as the depth of field is tiny and the viewfinder on the 400d not exactly great!)

Strobist: Rayflash ringflash on hotshoe 580exII, metered via ETTL. Added to the strobist group because it's quite an interesting light you get from these rayflashes. The subject has to be quite small to get a good wrap though. Seems more than a stop of light lost.
