Self portrait, my first Strobist pool submission. Inspired by another strobist with similar equipment. I wasn't going for anything earth-shattering here, rather just trying to learn how to use my lights.

Camera right: Alien Bees B400 at full power, pointed at background (100" projector screen), 20 degree grid and blue gel. Triggered by Cactus V4.

Camera left: AlienBees B800 at 3/8 power, pointed at shirt, 10 degree grid.

Ring flash / fill: Rayflash and 430 EX II, 1/8 +0.7, 24mm, triggered by Cactus V4.

Taken with Samyang 8mm fisheye at 1/160s, f/16, ISO 100.

Taken at Stanley Park in Vancouver, Canada. D300 handheld with Sigma 150 mm macro at f20 and 1/250 with sb800 and Rayflash ringlash adaptor. Manually focused which was a challenge as the flower was moving, the bee was moving, and I was moving :) The image has not been cropped.

Meet Tony for breakfast yesterday and conversation went into photography (which is a normal conversation when photogs meet. hehe). Then he started throwing names of classic and famous photographer. I think he names at least 10 and from it I only knew one (knew just the name but not even the body of work). Haha, that was a learning experience and made me realize how photographically illiterate I am. I asked him to scribble on my notepad the names for I can't even spell their names correctly, so Tony did and said the unforgettable lines on our conversation "you should study their work to bring your photography to the next level". Thanks Tony for the insighful converstation and the GAP portrait book.
