Rape of Polyxena by Neoptolemus [1865]
Neoptolemus kidnaps Polyxena to sacrifice her at the tomb of his father Achilles. On earth lies Polydorus, the brother of Polyxena, whom Neoptolemus has already killed.
Hecuba, the mother of the two, begs Neoptolemus in vain for mercy.

The Rape of Polyxena is a sculpture by Pio Fedi located in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.
Sculpted between 1855 and 1865 after a long preparative period with studies and drawings (many of which are still preserved in Florence and Rome), it is considered the artist's masterpiece and one of the most significant works of nineteenth-century Italian sculpture, so much so that it deserves the very prestigious location in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, the only modern work among ancient and Renaissance masterpieces.
The subject of the sculpture is Polyxena, Priam's youngest daughter, kidnapped by Neoptolemos (also called Pyrrhos, the red-haired) to be sacrificed in anticipation of the departure of the Greek ships for the return from the Trojan War.
These units have been "RAPE'D" A Pair of Ex. ICE 6400 Locomotives fly westbound on rails that is has traversed many times as the ICE 6419 and 6446. Its sad they did this to them, but it was nice to get a pair before they are repainted into Orange and Yellow dress.
Another experiment in the local rape field. This is a 2 minute exposure at f/11 in more or less total darkness - just starlight, and the distant glow of Shrewsbury on the left - which, interestingly, was hardly visible to the naked eye

The most difficult bit was getting out of the field afterwards! I thought I'd remembered where the gate was, but I'd moved rather more than I remembered.
I should explain that "rape" is the English name for this particular crop - oil seed rape, a yellow-flowered plant, grown for its oil, with a fearsome reputation for allergy sufferers.
