Go Bold
School starts in a few weeks, and I'm getting ready to take this new year head on.
I read a post by Jonathon Tran on PL Patterns about the importance of going bold. If you want to make change or improve or see things in a new light, don't just move in increments, take large steps. Basically be a braver person. It seems difficult, but the further you move from your bad habits, the harder it is to move back.
I also read this article on BoingBoing about what privacy means. How some public figures suffer scandals because they try to hide their lives, versus those who live openly and are not scandalized for the same things. "They have nothing to hide, so nothing that becomes public knowledge can hurt them." It's an interesting concept, and as we move forward it's important to remember that who you are doesn't change based on what other people think. Our society has been working towards an ideal where people can be what they want (as long as they don't hurt others) without having to fear recrimination for it. People can be homosexual, christian, muslim, buddhist, nudist, loud, soft, artistic, conformist, fetishist, polygamist, monogamist, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Socialist, Marxist, Communist, Anarchist, etc without fearing a public shaming or being thrown in jail. We've still got a lot of hurdles to overcome before we reach that ideal, but I think that the protection of our liberties in that way by the government (it's important to remember that a good government also protects its citizens from the tyranny of its other citizens) is a good start.
It is with that in mind that I present my doughy body in all it's glory.
Just a little friendly rant from some of us Designers/Event People answering questions for some with other events/shops that were left hanging... Communicate better for crying out loud.
*Public Service Announcement, You're welcome.

My two cents on retouching. From every corner of the public space we are presented with pictures of beatiful people, smiling to us to make us by some product or other. Not only are models quite young, but for instance the skin has been retouched to make it perfect. At least perfectly boring. Yes! Boring, boring, boring. E.g. what part of this pictures is the most interesting to your eye?
Basicaly a screencap so i can replay to pullipinsider...
Firstly Requiem is only one person, what other's chose to say is not something she can controll. second requiem did say very few things about you and your mother but what we gleened form this was that you are both insane, and as im sure you and maaaaaaany other people will rember you infact said you liked how it was going in the inprogress pictures. i would link but since Requiem blocked you they all got deleted not unlike the comments i made to you on the pic..
As for Requiem being unprofessional i think you are very severly wrong, she is one of the best people in the pullip hobby

Here are my Flickr stats for December 9. In virtually every case, the number of views that day exceeds the all time views. This is consistent with easily 3/4 of the days since Flickr was spun off. The differences tend to be large and do not show corrections after the fact. This screenshot was taken a couple of hours after the day ended.
I thank everyone for your views and support, but I really can no longer believe the site stats. I was never into views, but it is nice to know that people are looking. It justifies the efforts and encourages me to continue, which I will be doing. I just feel cheated by the site apparently inflating my looks. I woudl rather have an honest 1,000 than a fluffed up 3,000.
a question of identity
dear diary:
i know i've ranted to you about this before but please bare with me for a bit...
i just received an e-mail from an ex-pat who is presently living in the asian country of his ethnic origin. i am praying the east vs west turmoil doesn't take it's toll on him...
anyways, diary, the correspondence got me thinking about small-boy again. when the wifey and i sent him away to seattle, i hoped that he wouldn't fall into the same trap that many hawaii born young men do when they go away to college. the trap of finding a group of other hawaii born people to spend all of their free time hanging with. man...if he did that, he would be cheating himself out of the opportunity of a lifetime... the opportunity to discover himself and grow.
well, diary, last week i actually got a call from mr. high-maintenance. after the usual how's school and stuff, i asked him if he was making any new friends. to my surprise, he explained that a lot of his mainland team mates have begun hanging out at their place. it appears that small-boy's cooking skills are earning him a bunch of new friends. some of his new friends have been picking him up and taking him home for weekend dinners. he's even received a thanksgiving invite from one of the mothers.
diary, i couldn't be more happy with how it's working out so far. yeah, he might flunk a bunch of his classes this year. school has always been a tremendous struggle for him. but i know he always tries...
it's the "life lessons" that i'm praying he learns...and he can only learn them on his own...
now if i could only convince him to go to japan with me one day. his older brother learned so much about himself when we took him there a few years ago. i don't know why small-boy is so afraid of the place...
man, diary...letting go is hard...
Ok, so I've been having a few tiny quirks with my brand new for Christmas present Qosmio X505 gamers laptop that, as with all computers, I have a love/hate relationship with. But it is a great computer, fast, clear, I mostly loved it and what I didn't love about it probably has to do with my lack of computer knowledge and skills. Anyway today it went dead. I RAN it in and was told it's most likely the motherboard and I have to send it in for repairs. SOooooo now for quite some time, I'm going to be on my very old computer that is super slow, full of junk, & barely seems to work half the time. When it rains it pours. Just saying.. stuff happens.
I love Miley.
Now, before you jump all over me & yell "SHE'S A SLUT!", hear me out.
She's crazy talented. I mean, come on, have you seen Hannah Montana? It's frikin' hilarious! :D & her music wouldn't be so successful if she couldn't sing.
Here's the twist...was I impressed by her "Can't Be Tamed" video? Nope. Was I disappointed? A little, yeah. But do I hate her? No. I definitely think she could use a reminder that little girls everywhere look up to her & are watching her every move, but I don't hate her.
I do have to admit, with stuff like "Can't Be Tamed", she's not representing her Christian faith very well, but, I don't know her and so I can't judge where she stands in her relationship with Christ. & neither can anyone other than Miss Miley herself.
Is she making some "questionable" career choices? Definitely. But that doesn't make her a slut. Let's just face it...she's young & dumb...we all are! lol And, with Hannah Montana ending, she's under TONS of pressure to make that crazy-hard transition from child-star to legit actress/singer.
Do you know anything about how she is in her day to day life when she's just hanging out with friends or family? No. So how do you know she's a slut? .......Exactly.
OH!&btw, I looove her haircut. x) Just saying.
thankyouuu(:

I apologize for this picture of a bathroom in the Dayton Airport.
I just wanted to mention to the TSA, who stopped and wanted to take an extra careful look at my pen, that maybe a more dangerous object was in each of the stalls in the couple of bathrooms I walked into.
Maybe some "bad man" could have taped several of the plunger sticks together and made a formidable weapon.
But no, just click that pen, make sure its not a dangerous weapon.
Lately I have been feeling very disappointed in my photography. I have all these great ideas, but the execution just isn't there. My shoots need to be much more organized -- I'm so scatterbrained when I try to shoot my ideas, the pictures just never turn out like I envisioned. And don't even get me started on my processing. I really need to work on how I edit my pictures, I feel like some of them look very unprofessional, like I used Picnik to edit them or something. Not good. Anyways, that's the end of my rant. Hopefully I'll get out of this lull and my pictures will start to improve again.
Here's a shot I took (sooc) at the Stuffing on Wednesday. I don't even know what band this is. Enjoy.
Loving somebody with a drug addiction might be just as confusing and frustrating as being a drug addict yourself. Today was one of those confusing and frustrating days.
My brother, John, is in a bad bad way. His drug addiction makes him a liar, a thief, and a completely paranoid asshole. I try not to get involved. I try to stay neutral. He's burned every bridge he's got, and sometimes comes to me when he needs help. It's hard to say no to him because I still see him as my little brother.
Today I found myself caught up in the drama. There I was, sitting in the truck in the middle of crack town while my brother tried to negotiate to get back the washer, dryer, and stove he had sold to a dealer. I had to drop him around the corner and go sit in a cemetary until the negotiations were done.
A cemetary. How fitting.
It used to be something I hid. Something I'd never talk about. But as we get closer to an election, I just get mad that one of the biggest problems in our country is not even on the agenda. Our prisons are filled with drug addicts, drug dealers, and drug cooks. Our cities are filled with them, too. Our neighborhoods look clean from the outside, but don't look too closely, you might find an addict next door. You might even find one living in your own house or in your family.
We're fighting a war against terrorism, while the war against drugs is kicking our ass.
I love this photo. I still find it just out of this world that someone would want to get marrried before the age of 25. But, hey this was the 1960s.
What baffles me even more are the kids that are my age in the 21st century that want to get married. It's a death trap folks.
Didn't Comic Relief/Live Aid etc establish some kind of standard in dress code. No matter how rich the celebrity or how known for their flamboyant dress sense they are, when visiting Africa and making earnest points about helping starving AIDS victims one dons a plain pale t-shirt/shirt and some jeans/khaki's. Shoes are optional. Say what you will about Live 8 and rock stars claiming to save the world, but Bono at least has the sense to not arrive in Africa on a private jet, and then traverse the various villages on a fucking Segway with a cigar hanging out of his mouth.
And the idea of the card itself! No wonder Giselle is smiling. It rids her of any guilt for her clearly excessive spending, whilst acting as a bright red beacon to be be recognised at the various restaurarants at which she will be earnestly and generously gorging herself on fine cuisine. Her dash for the toilets to then expel said food back out through her mouth demonstrates her empathy for the plight of the starving Africans she holds so dear. Plus she needs to stay thin enough to fit into her other ethical dresses.
A lot can be said about the iPhone, and there is constantly one aspect or another of it being debated. What's irrefutable though is the built in camera. It really really really sucks.
Donkeyballs.
What you're looking at was a lovely all-sky red and orange sunset.
However, the iPhone camera has absolutely no center weighted exposure. As a matter of fact it seems to take every darn pixel and check for exposure because you will almost always, end up with a lower than wanted exposure. Note that there's absolutely no manual exposure compensation of any kind either, which most old cameras do with ease.
The noise isn't too bad - at least not worse than 3-4 year old mobile cameras, but the camera is _really_ slow and you have to learn to keep holding the camera at the target a while after you hear the shutter sound or you might end up with a blurry picture of your own feet.
Also, auto white balance seems to be totally out of the picture. No matter what I take a picture of I end up with at least a slight blue tinge or as in this case *gestures up to the pic*. I can only speculate at Steve's possible infatuation with Smurfs.
Combine this with a slow starting app, the lack of a physical button to push and absolutely no digital zoom and this is the second worst camera-in-phone I've ever used. The first one was the Sony Ericsson Z530 which was horribly grainy. Even my old Sony Ericsson K750i (Released in June 2005) took ten times better pictures.
Most of the problems with the iPhone camera can be fixed in the software. The question is if it ever will since Apple seems to blatantly ignore the pangs of their users when it comes to supporting the very basic expected functions.

Note, I am not an Apple hater, nor am I a blind fanboy that cry over the "injustice" of talking about the bad sides of a product. It's just that - a product like any other. The iPhone is a lovely toy in many ways, but it doesn't come close to have that feel of a finished product.
There's a lot of ranting on Flickr at the moment, and I was invited to join in. However, I try and remain rant free here, which is unusual for me, but I've finally found something to rant about.
My rant has been inspired by this rant by the lovely Eve.
I can accept that the Magic Donkey prefers ladies, I do too and I can live with that. It also makes sense as woman leave comments for women and for men in equal amounts, whereas men will tend to leave more comments for women than they do for other men. This then is not the rant.
If you're still reading, the rant is that while Eve (and many other women on here according to their profiles) has had gentlemen offer to show her photos of their penis, I have never, not ever had a female member of flickr contact me offering to share photos of her lady bits! And quite frankly, this is not on. This is the internet for god's sake, it's where you're supposed to meet members of the opposite sex who want to share these things with you, but I've had nothing, nada, zip!
I've had quite a few photos marked as favourites by men that don't want to share anything with me, or only have pictures of other men in their pants in their streams, which is fair enough, BUT NOTHING FROM WOMEN!
If it wasn't for HNT, HDT, HNF.... I would probably pack this in ;op
