through out the day the beans have to be raked so they dry evenly -- in the afternoon when it looks like a storm might roll in -- all are raked into piles and folded up in tarps like burritos to prevent water from getting in.. We asked our host a lot of questions about labor -- this is seasonal work .. are their jobs protected from year to year, how is the pay , conditions , protection, safety etc.... he was very open about it all -- even saying that he though that was a conversation that is never discussed within Fair Trade..
I cannot believe we are already doing this. Stupid water conservation. Stupid trees that can't hang onto their leaves.
