Bastonero / Hat & Cane Rack
Last Quarter, 19th Century, Manila
Narra
216 x 99 x 39 cm (85 x 39 x 15 1/4 in)
In the late 19th to early 20th century Phiippines, the most important piece of furniture to show the family’s wealth and social status was the bastonero, as it was placed on the second floor in the ‘caida’ or receiving room for the family and guests to hang hats, coats, and store umbrellas and walking sticks.
This is an early piece and one of the best examples to have surfaced for a long time. The central post and the lyre-shaped arms are filled with very finely made design elements: low relief carvings on the brackets, 1-inch deep pierced carvings on the arms stretchers, and exquisitely turned central post that soars majestically. Excellent craftsmanship and in very good condition.
Estimate: PHP 45,000 - 60,000

The rack is intended for an antiQ-X, but a hanging eDelux is a moderately close approximation for this photo.
On the left/center, disassembled. On the right, partially assembled.
The rack fastens to the frame via a two-sided bolt. The rack side is 1/4"-20 right hand thread, and the seatstay end is 1/4"-20 left hand thread. The middle of the bolt is 3/8" hex. You'll have to walk the rack back and forth to install it, but once it's there it should look almost completely seamless.
This room was the central telecomms room and would have been filled with row upon row of racks such as these, housing telephony equipment.

The rack railway is a 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) long line. It connects Å trba railway station, on the standard gauge KoÅ¡ice–BohumÃn Railway, with Å trbské Pleso railway station, in the High Tatras ski, tourist, and health resort of Å trbské Pleso. The rack railway was opened in 1896, closed in 1932, and reopened in 1970 in time for that year's FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, which were held in the area.
To complete the revival of the rack railway, its then operator, the Czechoslovak State Railways (ÄŒSD), had to acquire suitable rolling stock. As the former Czechoslovakia was not producing suitable vehicles, it was decided to purchase three two-car electric multiple unit (EMU) trains from the Swiss company Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (SLM), Winterthur.
All members of the class were ordered in 1969, and entered service in 1970.

Bike Rack
This simple bike rack securely holds two bikes upright in the bed of my pickup. I hook a bungie strap from the eye bolt to a pedal on each bike to keep them from rolling forward and out of the holder while traveling.

There's two such racks in our living room. This one holds television and movie serials. Do notice the kitty toys....
I got the day's photo effort out of the way early a year ago. All the daily project's images were shot in the living room, using the lamps for a light source. Most were taken from the floor; I'd been stretching and grabbed the camera without getting up. I suppose you could call the set "arty."

I spent part of the day doing a hardware upgrade on my home network's server (actually a NAS, not that it matters--the main function is to store my photographs). I knew some time would be consumed by waiting for the RAID array to adjust to the new drives, and I wasn't particularly surprised that a side effect was fairly minor, but nonetheless frustrating, software issues. But by supper time I had things under control.
