A rack and pinion is a type of linear actuator that comprises a circular gear (the pinion) engaging a linear gear (the rack). Together, they convert between rotational motion and linear motion: rotating the pinion causes the rack to be driven in a line. Conversely, moving the rack linearly will cause the pinion to rotate.

This Pentax bellows set was purchased in Thailand while I was stationed there in 1972 (USAF). At some point in the early 80’s a friend milled out the Pentax screw threads and machined a Nikon bayonet mount into what was left. He used an indexing rotary table on a Bridgeport vertical mill (a really talented guy).
I have been using it on occasion for over 50 years. The Spotmatic II that I bought it for lasted about 7 or 8 years.
The frame is 1.5 inches wide.

La Vall de Núria
"The Valley of Núria"
is a south-opening valley coming down from the crest of the Pyrenees within the municipality of Queralbs, province of Girona, community of Catalonia, Spain.
The floor of the valley lies about 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above sea level and is accessible from the south via a rack railway (the Vall de Núria Rack Railway) or by foot, and from France to the north by footpaths.
There are no roads to access the valley.
The place is historically notable for the 1931 drafting of the first Catalan Statute of Autonomy, in the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Núria.

Visiting Atlanta in July always reminds me that I would never survive a Summer in the American South. On an evening where the air was almost thick enough to drink, a BNSF ES44AC leads a rack train toward a crew change at Inman Yard, just around the corner behind me.
BNSF's 227 job hauls a string of autoracks out of the Port of Vancouver. A classic GP50 in BN livery leads today's train.
I recently bought a bike rack for the car so that i can drive to more distant locations and then ride around with my cameras acting like a tourist in my own city.
The City of Perth is on very large estuary formed from the convergence of the swan and canning rivers. Whilst Perth is a sizeable city it has a wetland area on the eastern border where there is an Island (Heirisson Island). Half of this is a kangaroo sanctuary and the other half is native habitat and indigenous cultural landmarks. This was my first bike trip and there are many good cycling paths to choose from.
These first pictures are a series of wide angle shots/panoramas taken on Heirisson Island. Remember this is adjacent to the Perth CBD/downtown. A beautiful and peaceful place to visit.
Two big bucks, side-by-side, but one is clearly the winner of this competition. You can see the confidence of his victory in his expression.
Had a drive up to the River Lyne to add this bridge to my set and also to test out my new lens. Not the most ideal of conditions but it seemed to perform ok.
Just a pity about that big fallen tree impacting on the shot, probably due to all the stormy weather of late.
