Someone mentioned the other day about the difficulties of recording the action on the West Sumatran rack railway centered on Padang Panjang.

Lack of trains, failures, high light, no light, rain and lineside access to the better locations were all issues to contend with. But it was fun.

The rack bag for this bike is being made by Swift Industries, here in Seattle. I'm looking forward to picking it up when it's done. It'll be way better than the ratty 15 year old Timbuk2 I've been using.

The rack is intended for lighter loads so I thought I'd experiment with struts running to braze on's halfway up the blades, instead of struts to the front dropouts, which is how I do it for the heavier duty racks that I make.

This is antique billiards table on display at Needful Things Antique Mall in Hendersonville, NC. I was more attracted to the vibrant colors in the felt and the balls than I was in the table itself. Thus the fairly tight composition.

About Models Giving Back

Models Giving Back is an agency of professional, certified SecondLife models who give of their time and talents to raise funds for legitimate and verified SL and RL charities.

Models Giving Back was founded in October of 2012 by Jamee Sandalwood after a previous agency dedicated to charity work was forced to close due to the owner leaving SecondLife. Jamee felt the work that was being done needed to be continued and set out to lead the models that were already a part of the former agency into new and bigger endeavors at the newly created Models Giving Back.

To date the agency has partnered with dozens of designers and provided models for runway, print and other functions that support charities around SL.

Rock Your Rack is the creation of Jamee Sandalwood and is owned exclusively by Models Giving Back in SecondLife.

About the National Breast Cancer Foundation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34. At the time of her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. NBCF’s mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need. This mission includes increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and providing nurturing support services.

I found this perfect garment rack for the dolls at a shop selling home decor items. I think it was intended to be a jewelry organizer but I thought it would be a perfect dolly sized garment rack! Apparently Agnes thinks so too! I made some hangers for her and voilà!!!!

These racks were powder coated. Wear marks after first 120 mile ride. Verdict: looks good, not so durable. It hasn't worn all the way through yet, that seems to be a long ways off. The powder coat was done by UV Metal Arts. UV did a great job.

A double rack like this assures that the gears of the pinion are always engaged.

Pilatus Bahnen AG: the Pilatus rack railway connects Alpnachstadt (440 meters above sea level) to the summit of Mount Pilatus (2,073 meters above sea level), with a 800 mm gauge single track and a length of 4.8 km. This is the steepest rack railway in the world, with a maximum gradient of 48%, and has some features that make it unique. It uses the Locher rack system with side pinions, since conventional rack-and-pinion systems with vertical pinions did not provide the safety of the gears tracing the rack on the strongest ramps. Due to the use of the Locher rack system, the wheels of the original steam railcars did not have flanges on the wheels at first, although later all the wheels were endowed with external flanges, and not inside flanges as is usual on all railways. Therefore, the switches are also not conventional, and instead of having moving parts, are enormous devices that move laterally, or are turned over.

The line was put into service on June 4, 1889, and electrification at 1550 V DC was put into service on May 15, 1937.

The service is currently provided with twelve railcars. In 1937 SLM and MFO built eight electric passengers railcars (numbers Beh 1/2 21-28). In 1954, SLM built a freight electric railcar (Ohe 1/2 31), although it is normally used as a passenger car after the construction of a body with the number 29 in 1962. In 1968 SLM built the last electric passengers railcar, the number Beh 1/2 30. Finally, in 1981 Stadler built the diesel departmental railcar Xhm 1/2 32.

The railway is operated by means of the "train package" system: two convoys are formed of several railcars that run in driving on sight mode between them. At the intermediate station of Ämsigen cross the ascending and descending convoys.

After crossing with the ascending convoy, and the change of position of the traverser, the first electric railcar of a downbound convoy continues their travel.

This was obviously built as some sort of big box store, but I don't know what. The Nordstrom Rack store was a Filene's Basement right beforehand.

Sun Center was built in the mid-1990s and was anchored at the time by a Big Bear store, a Sun TV store, and some other store I am unsure of. The shopping center was named after the Sun Television and Appliance chain that went out of business in 1998.
