Every so often, things just "click" and a really good image appears. This was one of those times.

Quotation About Happiness, Teachable And Humility

The image for this comes from a modified photo of a picture in a magazine.

This one turned out well. It reminds me of a dandy lion / prickly weed - but in a good way.

One of my copies of War and Peace. I had to work hard to get through it, but It's my favorite of all the novels I have read. Over the last 30 years, I've read it five times.

Below is one of my favorite passages. It describes Pierre's Dream when he was a prisoner of the French during Napolian's invasion in 1812 and suffering great privations:

"And suddenly a long-forgotten, meek old teacher, who had taught him geography in Switzerland, emerged in Pierre’s mind as if alive.

“Wait!” said the old man. And he showed Pierre a globe.

This globe was a living, wavering ball of no dimensions. The entire surface of the ball consisted of drops tightly packed together. And these drops all moved and shifted, and now merged from several into one, now divided from one into many. Each drop strove to spread and take up the most space, but the others, striving to do the same, pressed it, sometimes destroying, sometimes merging with it.

“This is life,” said the old teacher.

“How simple and clear it is,” thought Pierre. “How could I not have known before?”

From the translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volkhonsky.

According to mom it wasn't very good.

Both forms of the proverb are good - possibly in different circumstances.

Loved the quotation. Needed patience to create this one.

Presenting the first in my "Yiddish Sayings" series. I found a great little book filled with Yiddish proverbs and got inspired. The best thing about the book is that its bilingual - which is useful as often the nuance behind the words gets lost in translation.

Song by switchfoot. Assignment in Graphic Design class.... Mah. It's okay. Could be better.

I should probably share this one with my colleagues at work. Not sure our students would agree.

I saw this quotation outside a local art gallery and thought it would look good on a fractal. The font was a chance occurrence. I was going for "Monotype Corsiva" and hit "Mistral" instead.

The dancer featured in this wallpaper requested the quotation and the colour. Hopefully this piece meets with her approval.

Playing with an old variation can sometimes result in something "new".

Sometimes it seems that we are more likely to be swayed by interesting anecdotes than dry data.

Things don't always work out as well as this - but this time, the effort paid off.

Mount Auburn Cemetery was one of America's first garden cemeteries, inspired by Pere Lachaise, Paris. It is located in Cambridge and Watertown.

I'd been meaning to go here since forever, and especially since my family moved to Watertown in 2012. There were many famous graves I was able to visit, and it's a beautiful, beautiful place. I wouldn't mind living here after the rest of my life.

Every time a new rock singer comes out they don’t say, ‘Are you the new John Lennon?’ Every time a new rapper comes out, it’s not, ‘Are you the new Dre?’ I am never sure why this sort of genre, the categorization is so strong. I have not earned the right to be...
