I've had this one in the works for a while, but finally finished painting the torso (originally from Electro).
Kwikdamp-gelijkrichters voor elektrische tractie kom je in werkende toestand bijna nooit meer tegen. Deze tractiegelijkrichter in glazen bol is in bedrijf voor de voeding van de elektrische museumtramlijn in Queen Elizabeth Park bij Wellington in Nieuw Zeeland.
De kwikdampgelijkrichter is in 1902 uitgevonden door de Amerikaan Peter Cooper Hewitt. Vanaf ongeveer 1920 is dit type gelijkrichter gebruikt voor voeding van tram- en spoorlijnen met gelijkspanning. Vanwege de vraag naar hogere stromen en grotere vermogens is vanaf circa 1930 de hermetisch gesloten kwikdampgelijkrichter in stalen vat met vacuüm-pomp ontwikkeld. Vanaf het midden van de jaren zestig van de vorige eeuw zijn de kwikdampgelijkrichters geleidelijk aan vervangen door halfgeleidergelijkrichters met siliciumdiodes. Inmiddels is aan de toepassing van kwikdampgelijkrichter vrijwel volledig een eind gekomen.
Via een speciale gelijkrichtertransformator wordt de tramlijn met gelijkspanning gevoed.
De glazen gelijkrichter biedt de meest aanschouwelijke en spectaculaire vorm van elektrische gelijkrichting.
Boven de geheel onderaan gepositioneerde kathode of minuspool zien we een door de verhitting groen licht uitstralende plas vloeibaar kwik. Daarboven bevindt zich de geioniseerde gaswolk van kwikdamp. In het centrum van de blauwkleurige gaswolk bedraagt de temperatuur ongeveer 3000 graden Celsius. De geioniseerde kwikdamp geleidt de stroom slechts in één richting. Daarop berust het gelijkricht-principe waarbij van wisselspanning een pulserende gelijkspanning gemaakt wordt.
Dit is een zespulsige gelijkrichter. Dat wil zeggen dat een positieve en een negatieve sinushelft van de wisselspanning omgezet worden in zes in elkaar overvloeiende positieve golven. Er zijn zes glazen uitstupingen als anode of pluspool. Tussen de anodes en de kathode bevinden zich in een tot ontsteking gebrachte gelijkrichter de elektrische vlambogen die de stroom door het gas geleiden. Rond de glazen anode-buizen zijn stalen ringen gemonteerd. Daaraan zijn de anode staven bevestigd die in de gelijkrichter steken. Dikke litsche-verbindingen lopen van de anodes naar de twee plus-verzamelrails die met beide uiteinden van de gelijkspanningszijde van de gelijkrichter transformator verbonden zijn.
Onder de gelijkrichter is een ventilator gemonteerd. Bij een grote vermogensvraag en een daarmee verbomdem opwarming van de gelijkrichterbol wordt de ventilator ingeschakeld.
Door de komst van kwikdampgelijkrichters was men in staat om onbemande decentrale onderstations voor voeding van tram- en spoorlijnen te bouwen. Vanaf dat moment was het mogelijk om lange uitlopers van spoor- en tramnetten op een economisch gunstige manier met elektrische tractie te exploiteren.
Dit exemplaar is van het fabrikaat General Electric. De restanten van het goudkleurige GE-embleem zijn op de handgeblazen glazen bol zichtbaar.

Quicksilver was sent to persuade King Pluto to return Proserpina to her mother. Quicksilver started by observing Proserpina’s actions. “I have fallen in love with you the slightest” she said. “I have not deserved your love as of keeping you prisoner, are you not starving? Can I get you any morsel of food?” King Pluto asked. “I crave none of any food unless its bread of my mother’s baking or fruit grown from her garden.” Pluto then sentas many servants as he could to search for fruit around the earth, they only returned with a bruised pomegranate. The fruit was presented to Proserpina and at first she declined it then she was drawn in bythe fruit sweet smell and grabbing a small handful of seeds she let them rest in her mouth. With the deed being done, the door opened King Pluto and Quicksilver entered the room. “It is clear, that you see my palace as nothing but a gloomy prison, and I your prison guard with a cold heart. Yes, my heart may
be cold but I shall no longer keep you prisoner as it’s been six months since a morsel of my food has entered your mouth. You may be free, leave with Quicksilver and head home to find your dear mother.” King Pluto said to his little ray of sunshine.
Within a matter of time Proserpina and Quicksilver were back on earth’s surface. With every foot step the grass grew greener, fields started to flourish once again, flowers and fruits sprouted from all around, the cattle started to graze the grass day and night. The birds started to chirp with glee. Mother Ceres sat on the front step tired from having searched for Proserpina for such a long period of time. Proserpina saw her mother and started to run flinging herself on to her mother’s bosom, the two started to weep. Once the two calmed down Mother Ceres gave Proserpina an anxious look. “My dear child, while stayingat King Pluto’s did you tastes any of his food?” Mother Ceres asked. “Mother the whole truth is that untilthis very morning not one piece of food has entered my mouth. Today I was given a pomegranate and since it being so long since I had seen any fruit, and King Pluto came into the room almost immediately after I tasted the fruit. I did not swallow the fruit it was just a small handful pomegranate seeds I do hope there wasn’t any harm done.” Exclaimed Proserpina. “How many seeds exactly did you let rest on your tongue my dear child.” Mother Ceres asked. “At the most there were six pomegranate seeds in my mouth.” Proserpina replied.

This is the latest technology from Quicksilver Ind.: the "HawkEye".
The key feature of this sight is that it uses GPS technology to exchange information about targets' positions between other HawkEyes being used in the same unit. Red arrows show up on the lateral margins of the sight's view, pointing towards enemy targets that other users are aiming at or have marked as a primary target to engage.

Today's story and sketch "by Me" you see Mardick Gofish in his B&R Anti Gravity 86 "RS" Coupe, (Raydon Sled),
powered by Raydon a chemical element with symbol Rn and atomic number 86. It is a radioactive, colorless, odorless, tasteless noble gas. It occurs naturally as an intermediate step in the normal radioactive decay chains through which thorium and uranium slowly decay into (lead;sled fuel), radon itself, is a decay product of radium. But that is
enough science for today, lets just say the boys (Mostly Alien) at B&R have harnessed the Raydon with Ions as an anti gravity fuel that will be present long into the future. But as interesting as that all is, today we are
sketching and telling the story of Mardick's brother and business partner,
(Laurence "Limpy" Gofish), Limpy got his nickname after his first
crash in the Quicksilver Flying Machine you see flying above Mardick, he got the limp after having both legs reattached
after a wreck on nearby Saddleback mountain, (the first responders to the wreckage were a team of medical students
on vacation from medical school, "FSU" (Field Surgery University), a great bunch of kids who had never even seen a four foot tall grey Alien from Lippo the blue moon, or seen one in a terrible plane crash, with both little legs detached,
that could be the reason they attached the left leg to the right side, and the right leg to the left side, causing
(The Limp). But after some months of rehab, Limpy stoped walking in circles. But that is a story for another time.
Now Limpy with thousands of hours behind the stick of the Quicksilver gives flying lessons to Aliens from around the
galaxy who find it exciting to fly a real piece of old school aviation history, at the Quicksilver Flying School,
here in the Hills of Anaheim.
