I was on my back patio looking out into the garden when I happened to look down at my largest Butterfly Bush. There was this lovely Question Mark. There was only enough time to snap off one quick shot before it flew away.
Question Mark- occasional forest clearings, edges, and paths early spring to summer and autumn until hard frost. Overwinters and flies on warm winter days.
This butterfly really confused me...it's orange on top and leaf-looking on the underside??? Creations are simply amazing aren't they??

the show was amazing. They're always amazing. I saw 'em twice a few years back. He and his band haven't lost the skills at all. What would garage punk be without ?
Question Mark Butterfly (Polygonia interrogationis) in my back yard. This is the umbrosa form, with the hindwing darkened instead of orange. The row of 4 spots (3 circles, 1 oval) distinguishes this from the Eastern Comma Butterfly (Polygonia comma), which has 3 spots in that row. The actual question mark that gives this species its name is on the underside of the wing (as is the comma on its cousin).
this word came back into my life while reading dinosaur books to my grandson...
of course they were describing the events that wiped out those amazing creatures!
It occurred to me that is also what happens when you combine a clematis blossom with a wild digital abstract ! The difference setting was used here in the blend mode feature of PS when using layers.
But it's also what seems to be happening online with photography these days...
it can be a bit overwhelming!
