A COMMUNITY QUESTION FOR NLPers

I am taking a different slant here on this page.

Here's why

I have a view that NLP does not work until such times that people

1/ believe it works. So, that requires demonstration/proof.

2/ understand how it works and why it's important for them

3/ Can learn it easily and effectively

4/ They know it exists and how to easily access it.

So, I am curious about what you think isn't working in the world of NLP change work.

Is everything rosy in the garden or are there things that you would change?

Now I am expecting a tirade of posts here questioning my "non useful presuppositions". Which is a presupposition in itself, of course.

Now...I think of it more as wanton curiosity. Because apparently it is good to be curious. Is it not ?

So here is a question for you. A frame if you will.

Kung Fu and NLP both came into western consciousness within a few years of one another.

To be clear I have generalised here and also include other martial arts such as karate and ju jitsu etc etc.

Is it that Kung Fu is not only better known than NLP but it is also more popular ?

If so why is this ?

Network robustness is a very important question in many contexts: in communication networks, equipment failures may disrupt the network and prevent users from communicating; in distribution networks (such as power or water distribution), breakdowns can prevent service to customers; also, diseases can spread in contact networks, and vaccinating people (thus in a sense removing them from the network of the disease's spread) can prevent the infection from reaching a large number of persons.

Many papers have studied this question by considering the size of the largest connected component (i.e. the largest set of nodes such that there exists a path between any two nodes) as a criteria for evaluating the robustness of a network: the larger the size of this component, the larger the number of users who can communicate (or the number of people a disease can infect), and hence the more robust the network.

Most real-world networks have heterogeneous degree distributions (i.e. they have a large number of nodes with small degrees, a small number of nodes with a very high degree, and all intermediate cases), hence studying the robustness of power-law random networks seems relevant. This plot shows the resilience of such a network in face of failures and malevolent attacks. Failures are thought to be random events, and are modeled by random removing of nodes. Attacks aim at disrupting quickly a network, and are modeled by the removal of nodes by decreasing order of their degree. In both cases, the plot shows the fraction of nodes remaining in the largest connected component, as a function of the number of removed nodes.

The behaviors of the network in both cases are very different: while the plot for failures decreases very smoothly and reaches 0 only when almost all nodes have been removed, the plot for attacks decreases very sharply and reaches 0 when only a small fraction of the nodes has been removed. This seems to imply that networks with heterogeneous degree distributions are very resilient to failures, but very fragile against attacks. This would be due to the high degree nodes, which hold the network together. In case of failures, very few of these nodes are removed, and the network resists, but in case of attacks the removal of these nodes disrupts the network very quickly.

The third plot, which shows the effect of almost random attacks, can mitigate this conclusion. These attacks simply consist in removing randomly nodes that have degree at least 2. We can observe that, though it is not as efficient as a classical attack, this strategy succeeds in disrupting the network far more quickly than random failures. This shows that the weakness of networks with heterogeneous degree distributions in face of attacks is also caused by their large number of nodes of degree one.

With this exhibition, we hope to convey the hopes and themes of our developing practices, and demonstrate the sincerity of our work. Drivers, riders, union members and community leaders gathered at the steps of Lynn City Hall to protest low wages and a ballot question that they say would allow companies such as Uber and Lyft to strip benefits and protections from them.

During the protest, drivers from Lynn spoke out against their current wage of $4.82 an hour, saying it is inadequate to live on that rate of pay.

The ballot question supported by large companies would, if voted yes on, classify drivers for rideshare and delivery companies, who accept requests through digital applications, as independent contractors, and not employees or agents.

The companies are also sponsoring a bill in the Massachusetts state legislature that would classify drivers of rideshare services and delivery companies as independent contractors under state law.

In response to the ballot question, a coalition of labor and civil rights groups known as Massachusetts is Not For Sale held four events in Lynn, Springfield, New Bedford and Roxbury on Wednesday protesting the proposed question.

Questo estratto dalla ricostruzione finale affronta la questione delle audizioni al CSM al volo "costruite" il 9 giugno del 2011 per dare una falsa pezza di appoggio alla mia sospensione cautelare. La Procura era venuta a conoscere il contenuto del MEMORIALE che venne depositato al CSM da Giovanni Ferrara nella audizione, "fresco di stampa da file" (!!) unitamente (incredibile a dirsi) alla mail in cui la donna della Cecchignola dopo vario tergiversare ammetteva di fatto, sottolineando che non riusciva a memorizzare tutto, ma si dichiarava inorridita per la condotta della Procura di Roma". Ma la mail veniva depositato solo per instradare nella progettata chiave personale la gestione del caso e per segnalare che altrimenti si aprivano falle (!!). Ovviamente nessuno alluse al memoriale od ai contenuti: la pantomima era "dice cose criptiche" "a voce" (e 180 pagine tra memoriale e allegati depositate a Perugia non esistevano al momento della recita concordata di corsa, e tanto grossolana da lasciare sbigottiti: la circostanza che la pantomima fosse palesemente contraddittoria col preventivo deposito di memoriale di novanta pagine dettagliate da parte del Procuratore Giovanni Ferrara, nulla contava). Una non superficiale valutazione della scissione logica e pratica dei comportamenti emerge: ogni atto ha una distinta autonoma valenza efficacia e finalizzazione, niente vien fatto per dare dati e per accertare le cose. roba da schizofrenia isttuzionale, a me letteralmente incomprensibile. Nella "audizione" urgente del 9 giugno del 2011 emerse la chiara diversa presa di posizione di Pietro Saviotti. Nel link sotto la parola LA PANTOMIMA CRIMINALE (vedi da pagina 269 a 303) vi è invece il puntuale resoconto della vera e propria recita inscenata di corsa dal manipolo deviato degli Aggiunti (assente Alberto Caperna e presente, leale e veritiero Pietro Saviotti). Ricordo a chi legge che Pietro Saviotti era stato definito nel settembre 2010 da Stefano Pesci "uno stronzo" con espressione biliosa e liquidatoria dinanzi ad Agnello Rossi e con sguardo volta ad avere il di lui consenso. Ero presente anche io nella stanza di Rossi e sempre in quella occasione sottovoce, estasiato ed allusivo, Pesci, mentre Rossi era impegnato al telefono, mi disse " E' in partenza .. per Honk Kong .. .. ha casa ad Honk Kong" (all'epoca pensavano di avermi sotto controllo ed in pugno dopo il sequestro di persona e la chiusura indolore dei due tentativi di dispensa per inettitudine a mio danno: io lavoravo per capire ed acquisire più informazioni possibili).
