I furrowed my eyebrows at this girl, but posed no query. I shoved the bangs away from my face as I turned my back to her and burrowed deep into the slightly dark living room. I dug around my neatly organized pile, shuffling through Jesse’s unmoved mess, too.
“So, Hope, I was wondering what you think we should—”
My body was bent forward, reaching down for something. I resiled and spun around, inching back to the table where my books and my school bag sat.
“What did you just say?”
She looked at me with a somewhat annoyed, yet patient look. “Well, I was starting to say, but you didn’t let me fin—”
“What did you call me?” I asked her.
“By your name.” As if this was extremely obvious . . . Which it was. But how did she—?
I felt my eyes narrowing. “How did you know my name? How did you even—” But I stopped right there after a moment of thought, deciding to save all of these questions for later. I didn’t know why this one was the most important question at the moment. “How did you know my name?” I asked redundantly.
She didn’t answer me. She instead looked around the table like she didn’t hear me, ignoring my presence. She spotted my sunglasses lying on the table next to my book and picked them up. The girl unfolded them, then refolded them, then unfolded them one last time. She slid them onto the bridge of her nose, then pushed them up with a forefinger, just like someone would do when they’re mocking a kid bearing librarian-esque glasses. She picked up the notebook that lay on top of the Bible I was studying. She brought it up eye level to her face and observed my writing like it was a newspaper, so that for a moment, her head was out of my vision. Instead, I saw the pages of my notebook, my neat, curved writing with some blotches of ink spotting the white lines here and there. And on the top right-hand corner, written high-school style, Hope Nixon. Oh.

Another Latin inscription is on the sundial: ''Ne Diruatur Fuga Temporum,'' or ''Let it not be destroyed by the passage of time.''
From NYC Parks website: Though there are many benches in Central Park, few are as special as this elaborate exedra (curved outdoor bench) overlooking Conservatory Water, which honors public servant Waldo Hutchins (1822–1891).
Born in the same year as Central Park’s designer Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), Hutchins was an original member of the Board of Commissioners of Central Park, the state-authorized legislative body which oversaw the park’s design, construction, and management in its infancy. Hutchins served as a park commissioner from 1857 to 1869, and again from 1887 to 1891. He also was a United States Congressman from 1879 to 1885.
This monument to Hutchins was erected in 1932, a gift of August S. Hutchins. It measures nearly four feet high by twenty-seven feet long, and its architect was Eric Gugler. The carved white marble stonework is attributed to Corrado Novani and the Piccirilli Brothers studio, the same firm responsible for the Maine Monument at Columbus Circle and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The sundial component was designed by Albert Stewart, and famed sculptor Paul Manship is credited with the small bronze figure at its center.
Three semicircular lines inscribed in the paving match the bench’s shadow lines at 10:00 a.m., noon, and 2:00 p.m. at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. Etched into the back of the bench are the Latin phrases, Alteri Vivas Oportet Sit Vis Tibi Vivere and Ne Diruat Fuga Temporium. Loosely translated, these mean, “You should live for another if you would live for yourself,” and “Let it not be destroyed by the passage of time.” The bench and its inscriptions honor a man who helped create Central Park, promote personal fulfillment through public service, and acknowledge the preservation of those things we treasure. Oi Vey… What a night.
Apparently, if there’s one thing I’m TRULY good at lately its hurting people’s feelings. I should probably investigate as to why that is.
Got in a bit of a verbal row with Elise, that started because of her query as to how my League was doing. Twice now my folks have encountered hers, and twice now I’ve been unhappy with the results. Seeing the horrors Kiri unleashed the other night STILL has me on edge, so maybe this was why I was a bit snappy with Elise.
Ultimately I shared my opinion with her. The Catwalkers aren’t a group of noble do-gooders. They aren’t philanthropic-goaled good-guys, out to do the right thing. They are a gang. They were a gang before Elise rose to their leadership, they’ll be a gang after.
They control “The rooftops” – including the structured catwalks that lace throughout Midian. Maybe their territory is less than the entirety of the cities rooftops. Maybe it’s not. But either way, they control more raw territory than any other faction in Midian.
Claiming the rooftops and catwalks to me, is like claiming "The concrete” It’s a bit more than necessary… They have the Den. That’s not enough? Why have more? Because they’re a gang. And it’s their turf.
That doesn’t make them BAD. I guess that’s where the communication broke down. I wasn’t saying I hated them, or was even angry. I was just calling a duck a duck. They’re a gang, and in a way, that’s quite dickish.
I want to be wrong, however. It’s hard to swallow that every single building owner of an accessible roof, or the owners of any buildings, shops, etc that come in contact with those catwalks was willing to come to an agreement with the catwalkers with just a handshake and a smile. Did NONE of those owners require blackmail? Extortion? Intimidation? Roughhousing? ALL of them agreed to this plan, with no gang-like activity?
If that’s the case, I’d actually be extremely happy. It would speak VOLUMES to the level of species tolerance in Midian. That all of these owners would agree to that, it’s a very, very good thing, and I’d be very happy to hear it.
Just like I’d be glad to hear that MJ, Beast, Niobi, Kiri, and the others are cuddly warm do-gooders romping off on fun family adventure… and are in no way assholes, military criminals, miscreants, or the like.
Maybe I’m wrong. I hope I am.
That said, I also ran into Jon on my watch over the church tonight. He had blackpowder bombs, and liked to riddle a lot… seems like he’s takin’ the express road to crazyville.

Pássaro popularmente conhecido como Tesourinha ((Muscivora tyrannus), voando para capturar um inseto.
TESOURINHA (Muscivora tyrannus). Na Argentina Tijereta e na Venezuela, Atrapamoscas Tijereta.
A tesourinha é uma ave facilmente reconhecível por sua longa cauda bifurcada, que lhe dá o nome. Mede no total 28 cm se for fêmea ou 38 cm se for macho, tendo este cauda mais longa. Tem ventre branco, costas cinzentas e cabeça e face pretas. Entre as penas do alto da cabeça, tem algumas de cor amarela que não costumam ser vistas, a não ser quando está excitada e/ou fazendo galanteios.
Migram para o Norte em fins de fevereiro ou início de março, em bandos que totalizam milhões de indivíduos, segundo Belton. Costuma pousar nos fios, arames de cerca, antenas de televisão, etc. A fêmea costuma botar quatro ovos, no período em que aqui permanece. Alimenta-se de pequenos artrópodes e frutos.

The world of aves contains an order called passeriformes, the largest of the 34 existing orders. The order has an unusual family known as the Tyrannidae and within that family, is a species called Muscivora Tyrannus, most cornmonly referred to as the Fork-tailed Flycatcher. The Forked-tail Flycatcher has a black cap with a yellow crown spot. Its underparts are white and its tail is black, forked and twice the length of its body.
Its nest is an elaborate hanging basket or cup preferably where colonial wasps or ants are nesting, presumably because of the protection from predators afforded by bites or stings of these neighbours. They lay one egg daily until the clutch is complete. The eggs are a white cream to buff with brown spots.
Bubba's new girlfriend gave him a Latin to English dictionary and he's convinced it's the key to a greater understanding of birdwatching. For instance, I would have guessed the Latin name Muscivora Tyrannus would have to do with its incredibly long forked tail or this varasious insectivorous birds appetite for flies but instead it's a description of its personality. Bubba looked it up and interpreted it as the tyrant intruder. A tyrant is defined as a cruel oppressive ruler or master.
The Tyrant Flycatchers all defend exclusive territories and are highly aggressive towards intruders, even intruders like hawks that may be three times their size.

I promised a contact a new Holgarama post today, and his query was just the impetus I needed to put together a new one. I have a small folder of pages of these negatives, about 30 total I think, of which I have only assembled about ten. They are a bit laborious. Sort of like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but whereas that can be done with friends over several hours and amidst much laughter, these require sitting uninterrupted amidst much muttering and cursing hunched in front of a computer screen. Which is not exactly fair, because in a sense I really do like putting them together. It is a puzzle, not just figuring out how and where to erase to blend the images together, but even down to deciding the order of the layers, and which content will lay atop or under another. In this image, it made quite a difference as I was tilting my Holga up and down to great degrees to record the tower tops to city streets below, so I had a bunch of verticals heading in all directions.
Note the convoluted form of the SeaFirst Tower.
Anyway, on the few occasions I have gone back to rescan a page of these at a higher res and rebuild it, I almost always end up with a different result merely from re-ordering the layers in a new fashion.
I have mentioned this before, but I think one of the reasons I have come to love creating these, is that I get to play with shaping the final photo into something other than the standard squares or rectangles we usually put our photos (somewhat mindlessly I think) into. For example, the last shot I posted of Proxy Falls is a rectangular format, yet standing out there in Nature where the form of everything was so organic and there was nary a rectangle in sight I nonetheless insisted that that waterfall had to be captured into a rectangle. With these Holgaramas I can discern a more fitting and organic shape for my subject and then expose frames in such a way to mirror that. In this case, I wanted the cluster of images to center on the downtown area, but I wanted a little spur shooting off to the side to catch a bit of the Puget Sound in the frame, as the city of Seattle and the Puget Sound cannot really be separated.
Anyway, I am still experimenting with this technique, and each of these I do, I learn a bit more. But I really am fascinated by this insistence we follow to put everything into neat, tidy squares, rectangles, and the occasional circle when so little in the world around us naturally fits into these shapes.

I can scarcely remember the days when you weren't inside my head. Infecting my choices; an addiction, a heartache. Dull beating which frenzies the moment you even pass. I could describe you from memory - the contours in your face, the way your expression changes when you smile. I never want to see you unhappy. It doesn't matter how hard I try nowadays. Too far gone, a hopeless case. I can only imagine and dream and it is nothing like the same, barely even comparable, but it makes my little pulse awaken just enough to count.
