The current problem wth Oregon's fire is less about the burning and more about the smoke. Portland has the worst air quality of any city of the world right now.

Test with a used barrel of an old lens, with built in aperture and different simple lenses (exchangeable). Nothing to notice, but some are quite funny. So enjoy them and excuse the humble quality of them.
The road to Tofino, a most spectacular drive, see how the truck and cars are dwarfed by the terrain.
This was a treat! The 9 red Hawks of the RAF's display team, in formation with historic Spitfire Mk IX MH434.
You can see the jets have their speed brakes extended underneath to help with this relatively low-speed fly past. In addition, the turbulence from the speed-brakes apparently improves the quality of the smoke stream.
I was really surprised to see this very healthy and well fed coyote out feeding on Saturday afternoon. I was even more surprised when the Northern Harrier showed up. I watched these two hunt meadow voles together along the edge of this soybean field for about 15 minutes. The coyote caught 3 or 4 and the harrier picked off at least one that the coyote missed.
It's not my highest quality photo, but it was such a cool experience to watch.
Baby Brian is being a highly uncooperative specimen!
For Macro Mondays theme 'Gift'. The gift here is not the snail, but my precious microscope. It was given to me by my grandparents when I was a young child - they had had a veterinary student lodger renting a small flat above their garage who suddenly vacated the flat when the rent was due, leaving behind a number of possessions that presumably were too difficult to carry easily. One of things left behind was this microscope, clearly a quality and valuable instrument so it is curious that it would be left behind. Recognising my interest in the natural sciences, my grandparents gave me his microscope, that came with slides and eyepieces - it was a excellent source of discovery that lasted all through my school days until I went off to university. I still have the microscope, but it doesn't get taken out of its case very often any more - although I did have fun photographing it for a photography course, see the first comment box. The 4X is the magnification power of one of the objective lenses, it is 1.8cm in diameter.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
Chur, the oldest town in Switzerland is always a treat to visit. The city is located in the Swiss Alps, and is the regional capital of the Canton Graubünden (Grisons.) We had dinner in the old part of town near the Obertor, a gate to enter the old town.
I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

This CRQ SD40-2 is hitting the grade with its freight train in tow.
This is of course a 1:29 scale model I renumbered, customized, and weathered to resemble the real 6427 in a sort of the late 1990s feel.
I've been trying for a shot like this for a while and the clouds were moving perfectly for a big stopper long exposure. Thanks for looking.
We went to San Francisco, first for sunset near the Golden Gate bridge, then for the moonrise. Our first stop was the Sutro Heights park at Sea Cliff. The sun was low, casting nice shadows.

Sono solo un paio di alberi ed una strada...
però la qualità e l'intensità della luce sono quelle giuste, e tutto sembra combaciare nella composizione.
