9 December 2024, Bangkok, Thailand - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu greets attendees during the opening ceremony of the International Soil and Water Forum 2024.
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu is in Thailand on a five-day visit. During which, he visited the National Hydro-informatics Data Center (NHC) at the HII headquarters on Kasetsart University Campus and the Ban Saladin community to observe good practices in community water resource management in rice-fish pond systems and solar-power propellor aerators.
The DG attended the first International Soil and Water Forum, which opened today to outline concrete measures aimed at enhancing global efforts to manage water scarcity and reverse soil degradation—both critical for global food security and environmental health. The Forum is co-organized by FAO and Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Tarek continue l’exploration du « Masque » qu’il a initié en 2010.
En 2016, après son retour de séjour au Cameroun, il customise des masques ainsi que des toiles. Il propose pour la rentrée artistique à la galerie une version 2.0 fusion entre tribalisme ancestral et modernité. Pour cette exposition, Tarek synthétise ainsi plus de 10 ans de recherche au travers notamment de ses cheminements GEOMETRIK que l’on retrouve dans ses œuvres depuis plusieurs années.
Il y associe l’universalité du masque et nous interpelle : est-il uniquement une forme libre du naturalisme figuratif, un objet symbolique ? Un objet décoratif ? Sans nul doute une création plastique que Tarek transfigure en ouvre picturale sur toile ou sur mur faisant écho alors à l’art pariétal.
Peut-être que sa recherche renvoie sur l’artiste urbain, caché et anonyme. Le masque devient sa signature comme un tag.
William Buller Fagg, historien des arts d’Afrique noire, spécialiste du Nigeria avait dit au sujet du masque « Tous les objets auxquels le nom de « masque » doit être attribué peuvent se définir en deux mots : ils masquent. Cela signifie qu’ils cachent ou suppriment l’identité. ». Mais si le masque cache, alors que nous fait il découvrir en échange ?
