LOUISVILLE – As approximately 800,000 Louisville area residents lined the riverbanks of the Ohio River Apr. 12, a U.S. Navy Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RIB) departs their pier to get in place for their special operations demonstration as part of the military demonstrations prior to Thunder Over Louisville (TOL), the world’s largest fireworks and pyrotechnics show. Assigned to Special Boat Team 20 (SBT 20), stationed in Norfolk, Va., two Mark V (MK-V) Special Operations Craft (SOC) and RIBs were the highlight of the military demonstrations as part of the day’s events before the 14th annual TOL fireworks show. This marked the first time Navy special operations boats participated TOL. The MK-V SOC and RIBs were in Louisville from Apr. 07 – 14. SBT 20 is comprised of Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC) who operate and maintain the state-of-the-art, high performance maritime boats used to conduct special operations interdiction, interception and insertion missions throughout the world.

Clifton Suspension Bridge 150th anniversary fireworks 2014.
On 8 December 1864, the bridge was lit by magnesium flares for its ceremonial opening parade, but they were blown out by the wind. The custom of lighting the bridge has continued with more recent events, although later thousands of electric light bulbs were attached to the bridge instead of flares
