So I was standing in Joo Chiat road with a friend and her children with the Hassie in my hand and this young chap came to me and said something about the camera. I took me a couple of exchanges to get that he thought I was taking pictures for a magazine and he wanted his portrait in there. I did not want to disappoint him but, hey bro, I have no magazine, but I can put your picture on Flickr, my blog and maybe even Facebook, so here you go.
After all this guy had the good taste to associate Hasseblad with professional-magazine-photographer and not with crazy-middle-aged-Ang-Moh ( white guy in local dialect).
I did not use the Hassie since the holidays in Sri Lanka in march but I am frankly amazed by the quality of this roll.

The University of Saint Mary put visitors in the Christmas spirit with its annual elegant and traditional Christmas Choral Vespers Concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013.
The USM Christmas Vespers presentation is a tradition that dates back more than three decades. This year’s rendition featured the USM Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. William Krusemark, chair of the fine arts department, and the Bells of Saint Mary Handbell Choir under the direction of USM Assistant Professor of Music Freda Proctor.
The principal work for the evening was Mozart’s Litanies of the Blessed Virgin, performed in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is celebrated on Dec. 8.
An assortment of carol arrangements followed, including modern settings by contemporary English composer John Rutter—The Donkey Carol, The Colors of Christmas, The Holly and The Ivy, and I Wish You Christmas.
USM Student soloists included Sarah DaMetz, of Lansing, Kan., Ashley Muldoon, of Bonner Springs, Kan., Emma Vavricek, of Basehor, Kan., and Katie Peterson, Amanda Jacobs, and Taylor Welch, all of Leavenworth, Kan.
A reception followed the event.

This is the third of 7 “scenes” depicting each of the pieces of the armour mentioned by the apostle Paul. Putting on the whole armour of God protects us in the battles of life & faith.
I enjoyed drawing these sandals, but I needed a photograph for reference. These shoes appear to be made from only a few pieces of leather, yet they are very complicated & took a long time to draw & colour up!
I decided early on in the design process to include a white cross on each piece of the armour, which is my way of signifying that this is not merely armour, but is spiritual, God-given armour, empowered by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Notice the small white crosses in the heals of the sandals.
Shoes fitted with the Gospel of Peace: what is it & what’s it for?
To get a broader sense of what feet fitted with the Gospel of Peace is, lets look at several versions of the Bible:
New Living Translation
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.

And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.

From the above we get the sense that the Gospel of Peace helps to prepare us to stand; that it brings us sure-footedness & confidence in the spiritual battles & struggles to be able to stand; that it is our responsibility to learn the Gospel of Jesus, so that we are prepared, willing & able to stand our ground.
‘Soldiers needed to wear sandals or boots (technically the Roman caliga, a half boot) so they could advance toward the enemy undistracted about what they might step on; this gear was essential to their “preparation” for battle. Paul takes the image especially from the herald of Isaiah 52:7 [1] who announces good news: sharing the message of Christ advances God’s army against the enemy’s position.’

Application: why Shoes fitted with the Gospel of Peace?
Thinking about our military metaphor once more, it would be no good at all if a soldier had the very best arms & armour in the world, but when it came to walk or run into battle, he or she fell over! Or worse still, was in the middle of a conflict, but couldn’t rely on their footwear to keep them upright & secure on the battlefield. In the same way, we must have our spiritual feet fitted with shoes that we are totally confident will keep us from slipping in any & all of our personal conflicts against the Devil. If our minds are thoroughly versed in the Bible (the Gospel of Peace) then we will be well equipped to stand our ground in the time of testing.
As the quote from the Bible Background Commentary above points out, a soldier needs to concentrate their attention on the battlefield, the enemy he/she faces, the tactics employed, the weapons used, whilst keeping a strategic overview of the battlefield... it would be very difficult to do all that if the soldier where not sure of their own footwear, or were distracted by it! Conversely, a soldier who is unsure of their own footwear, or who concentrates overmuch on it, has their spiritual “eyes” on their feet, & can not have their “eyes” on their enemy, or the battle - which could be disastrous for them! That’s why it is SO important to make good, sound preparation BEFORE goi9ng into battle.
There might be two difference situations we could consider in order to understand the importance of our spiritual footwear: 1) Standing our ground & 2) Advancing into battle.
1) Standing our ground refers to a Christian’s stability or surefootedness, which comes from knowing the Gospel. It is this Gospel knowledge & application to oneself which gives us peace & confidence in our hearts, so that we are able to stand in times of spiritual conflict & struggle. Reading the Bible; knowing the Gospel, is our preparation BEFORE we go into battle. Our preparation helps us to confidently stand our ground, & not to be distracted by anything else.
Jesus used the Bible as his defence when he was tempted by Satan (see Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13 & Luke 4:1-13) & was able to do so because he read & thoroughly knew the scriptures, being able to quote them in his own defence as the Devil tempted him. Since Jesus is our example in all things it should be obvious that we Christians need to become as familiar with the Gospel of Peace (the Holy Bible) for exactly the same reason: we too will be tempted by the Devil, & we too need to mount an effective defence when that temptation comes to us. Just as in Jesus’ own case, the Gospel of Peace is given for our protection as another vital piece of our spiritual armour.
2) Advancing into battle. As Christians we are to share our faith with those we come into contact with, which involves telling people the Gospel. By doing so we are helping to advance the Kingdom of God, by driving back the kingdom of darkness (or evil, the Devil’s kingdom.) It should be quite clear to every Christian that we are always in a spiritual battle, every day of our lives. We Christians can expect to come under attack from our enemy, the Devil, but the armour of God is given to protect us from these attacks. Every piece of the armour is vital, & together it provides a complete, seamless, encasing protection for us... but we must remember to put it on if we want that protection! Feet shod with the Gospel of Peace are vitally important, both as a preparation for the spiritual struggles we face every day, & in those special cases where we are actively advancing the Kingdom of God.
When the enemy, (Satan, the deceiver (see Revelation 12:9)), offers us erroneous or false ways to peace, or else tries to get our mind’s attention to focus on our concerns &/or fears, Christian’s can stand up to him, by quoting from the Bible, which is a way of reminding ourselves, & our spiritual adversaries what the truth really is: we are free to pursue our special relationship with our loving heavenly Father, through Jesus our Lord, by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. Paul reminds us in Romans 8:37-39 [2] that nothing in all creation (especially including the Devil) can stand in the way.

From its introduction in 1895 until the early 1960s (although the 7.62mm L41 sniper variant survived until the late 1990s) this rifle, the Lee Enfield, was the standard rifle of the British Army.
Its integral box magazine can hold ten rounds and such was the fantastic rate of fire that, during the First World War, the Germans thought they were coming under sustained automatic fire!
There was ANOTHER rifle based on this (albeit the SMLE version) and that was the De Lisle Carbine. This utilised the bolt action and the wooden stock with a modified Thompson submachine gun barrel (as well as modified M1911 magazines) and was used by special forces during World War II and the Malayan Emergency. But, compared to the silenced version of the Sten, it's a pain in the arse when you want to take down, say, two (or maybe more) of the enemy. But I digress...
Did you ever put a Buttercup flower under someone's chin to see if the yellow reflected off the skin, to see whether that person liked butter? I checked Richard Mabey's excellent Flora Britannica and he confirmed that this is still a universal practice.
Well that brings me back to this Large Skipper butterfly (Ochlodes sylvanus) with the reflected yellow from the Buttercup under its chin. It was feeding intently on this Meadow Buttercup in Thunderbridge Meadows, West Yorkshire.

Little update on ME..
I've been a bad flickr friend and I apologize! I've been busier than a cat covern' up shat! Seriously, the move to the new studio has got me going insane! I'm happy, I love the new place... it's huge but life is o' so hectic right now. I'm revamping my logo, my marketing materials, having to paint, landscape and make the studio feel like mine.. oh, did I mention the senior promo? Gawd, it's wild! Plus, I've got about 3 shoots a day 4 times a week. Madness. I've worked till dark thirty every night for about 2 weeks now.
It's worth it. I can't wait to show off the new joint!
Richmond Castle in Richmond, North Yorkshire, England, stands in a commanding position above the River Swale, close to the centre of the town of Richmond. It was originally called Riche Mount, 'the strong hill'. The castle was constructed from 1071 onwards following the Norman Conquest of England, and the Domesday Book of 1086 refers to 'a castlery' at Richmond.
In 1069 William the Conqueror had put down a rebellion at York which was followed by his "harrying of the North" – an act of ethnic cleansing which depopulated large areas for a generation or more. As a further punishment, he divided up the lands of north Yorkshire among his most loyal followers. Alan Rufus, of Brittany, received the borough of Richmond and began constructing the castle to defend against further rebellions and to establish a personal power base. His holdings, called the Honour of Richmond, covered parts of eight counties and amounted to one of the most extensive Norman estates in England. The Dukes of Brittany became the owners of the castle as Earls of Richmond though it was often confiscated for various periods by English Kings.
A 100-foot (30 m)-high keep of honey-coloured sandstone was constructed at the end of the 12th century by Duke Conan IV of Brittany. The Earldom of Richmond was seized in 1158 by Henry II of England. [a] It was King Henry II who probably completed the keep which had 11-foot (3.4 m)-thick walls. Modern visitors can climb to the top of the keep for magnificent views of the town of Richmond. At the same time that the keep was probably completed, Henry II considerably strengthened the castle by adding towers and a barbican. Henry III and King Edward I spent more money on the site including Edward's improvements to the keep interior.
In addition to the main circuit of the wall, there was the barbican in front of the main gate which functioned as a sealed entry space, allowing visitors and wagons to be checked before they gained entry to the castle itself. On the other side of the castle, overlooking the river, was another enclosure or bailey called the Cockpit, which may have functioned as a garden and was overlooked by a balcony. A drawing of 1674 suggests there was another longer balcony overlooking the river side of Scolland's Hall, the Great Hall.
Richmond Castle had fallen out of use as a fortress by the end of the 14th century and it did not receive major improvements after that date. A survey of 1538 shows it was partly in ruins, but paintings by Turner and others, together with the rise of tourism and an interest in antiquities, led to repairs to the keep in the early 19th century.
In 1855 the castle became the headquarters of the North Yorkshire Militia, and a military barracks block was constructed in the great courtyard. For two years, from 1908 to 1910, the castle was the home of Robert Baden-Powell, later founder of the Boy Scouts, while he commanded the Northern Territorial Army but the barracks building was demolished in 1931.
The castle was used during the First World War as the base of the Non-Combatant Corps made up of conscientious objectors – conscripts who refused to fight. It was also used to imprison some conscientious objectors who refused to accept army discipline and participate in the war in any way. These included the "Richmond Sixteen" who were taken to France from the castle, charged under Field Regulations, and then sentenced to death, but their death sentences were commuted to ten years' hard labour.
As presented today Richmond Castle has one of the finest examples of Norman buildings in Britain including Scollands Hall, the Great Hall of the castle. The keep has a restored roof and floors but is shown with the original 11th-century main gate arch unblocked. This arch is now in the basement of the later 12th century keep which was built in front of it, the main gate then being moved to its present position which was dominated by the adjacent keep while the original arch we see today was filled-in to secure the keep.
The castle is a Scheduled Monument, a "nationally important" historic building and archaeological site which has been given protection against unauthorised change.It is also a Grade I listed building and therefore recognised as an internationally important structure. Today the castle is in the care of English Heritage which publishes a guidebook written by John Goodall PhD FSA. English Heritage provides a visitor centre for the castle with an informative exhibition containing artefacts form the castles history, they also hold regular events there throughout the year.
According to legend, King Arthur and his knights are sleeping in a cave underneath the castle. It is said that they were once discovered by a potter named Thompson, who ran away when they began to awake. Another legend tells that a drummer boy was lost while investigating an underground tunnel, and that his ghostly drumming is sometimes heard around the castle.
Dolostone in the Silurian of Ohio, USA.
Dolostone is a common lithology in the Silurian of America's Midwest. Dolostone is a chemical sedimentary rock composed of the mineral dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2 - calcium magnesium carbonate). Dolomite and dolostone are usually gray in color and readily bubble in acid only when powdered.
The whitish-gray rocks in the upper half of the photo are the lowermost Put-in-Bay Dolomite. The light gray rocks below that, in the lower half of the photo, are the uppermost Tymochtee Dolomite (pronounced "Tie-mock").

Put-in-Bay - 10-20 feet thick. Dolomite, gray-to-drab, medium-bedded, brecciated, rough-textured, crystalline; irregular, knobby, weathered surface; exposed on South Bass Island, Green Island, and Catawba Island.
Tymochtee - 170 feet thick. Dolomite, dark, bluish-gray to brown, thin-bedded to shaly; calcareous shale partings in upper beds; containing gypsum and anhydrite; uppermost 5 meters exposed on South Bass Island, Catawba Island, and West Sister Island.
