The Olean House , formerly the Martin Hotel and Underground Railroad stop. Probably about 200 years old it has served a lot of purposes. Presently it provides housing, some offices and the McElfresh Map Company.

I walked into Bullseye with a purpose, but as soon as I stepped through the sliding doors, I felt the familiar rush of excitement. The holiday season was in full swing, and my mind was set on finding the perfect decorations for my sister Quency's Christmas tree. She always had a way of turning her living room into something magical, and this year, I promised to help her make it even more special.
I grabbed a red cart and made my way through the aisles, eyeing shimmering garlands, twinkling lights, and a mix of ornaments in every color imaginable. As I picked up a few glass baubles that shimmered in the store lights, I couldn't help but smile. It was funny how something as simple as Christmas decorations could bring back so many memories.

The purpose of the Argonaut expedition was to fly to King Pelias of the Golden Fleece from Colchis (AIA), which was in the depths of the Black Sea.
The Golden Fleece was the ram, which went Frixos to escape from his father, the king of Orchomenos Boeotia, and stepmother, who were ready to sacrifice the. Frixos finally arrived at the court of King Aetes, who received him with honors and gave him the daughter of a woman. When Frixos sacrificed the ram to Zeus, gave his skin to Aetes, who hung an oak tree in the grove of Mars and put a dragon to tribes, day and night.
The cause of the Argonaut expedition was as follows: King Pelias of Thessaly in Lokridas had received prophecies that killed by a descendant of Aeolus and stored by a man who will be wearing a sandal. When Pelias saw Jason in front of him, wearing a sandal just in his right leg to him away from him, gave him a mandate to bring back the Golden Fleece.
The campaign took part all the Greek heroes, fifty in number, including Hercules. Among them were the Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux, Idas and Lynkeas, Orpheus, Peleus, the Meleager, Tydeus by the Amphiaraos, and Hunter Atalanta, the only woman.
The leader of the campaign was Jason when requested by Hercules, who had only to complete the feat of Erymanthoy boar, to take leadership, not consent.
The ship for the voyage was made by Argos, the son of Phrixus, from which it got its name, Argo. It was made from trees of Mount Pelion, under the guidance of the goddess Athena. Had fifty oars and stern Athena had put a piece of the sacred oak of talking Dodonon.
Pagases sailed from the port of Iolkou. When the ship arrived in Mysia, the Hylas, the companion of Herakles left, and went to bring water and Heracles was left behind to find him, so he took part in another campaign.
The Argonauts, after many adventures reached the mouth of the River Stage in Colchis.
There, the king Aeëtes promised to give the Golden Fleece, if Jason sow first of the remaining teeth of the dragon, which was not used by Cadmus in Thebes and zepsei two steers that were making fire from their nostrils and had steel legs .
Jason with the help of Medea, the daughter of Aetes, which had fallen in love, managed to get the golden skin. Along with Medea, took the way back, but fell into a big storm and found in Italy. Finally after many adventures, arrived back in Iolko.

What does it mean when robins sing?
Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, spring song is far more powerful in males. Robins are adapted to life in poor light and are often active in half-light when few other birds are about.
The robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round. This is due to the importance of holding winter territories.
Only for a short period in late summer while they are moulting and inconspicuous do robins stop singing. Both sexes sing.
As with the nightingale, the song is usually delivered from a concealed perch within a bush or a tree exposed perches are infrequent. Autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song starts after the moult, from late summer onwards. It is more subdued and melancholy in its tone, while the spring song is powerful, confident and upbeat.
The spring song can start as early as mid-December, reaching full force in spring. Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, spring song is far more powerful in males.

BN GP50 all dressed up in tiger stripes for visibility purposes. Another one of those moments where I think I know where this is but I can't be sure because my memory is poor these days. Based on the date and the fact that I can remember the trips I took this could be Denver in May of 90. The Amtrak and the viaduct look very similar to me. Perhaps someone can nail this down for me.

Guinevere Fouroux's smile deepens when she feels his fingers wrap around hers. It's a small, quiet triumph, a victory, made even sweeter by the ghost of a smile--a real one, however shadowed--quirking his lips.
"I don't suppose I could talk you into dialing down the inspiration, when it comes to keeping you safe, can I?" She sighs, dramatically. "I would guess not, but a girl can dream..."
Eamon Cale's small grin deepens into something genuine. A rare smile, this, one he shows few, but it smooths the harsh lines from his face, and even the bruises and lacerations are softened by it. "Not a chance," he says, and suddenly leans forward, clasping her hand in both of his. His elbows rest on his knees, his back is bowed, but his head is up and his eyes are suddenly alight. "Do ye know what they said to me, in the Leviathan gaol? That Dr. Asbrink, the one who gets his jollies 'experimenting' on the hybrids. He said I'd been put there because I dared to bring hope to Midian. Because I preached freedom." His grin flashes again, boyish and oddly triumphant. "Best fecking compliment I'd ever received."
Bit late posting, not by just two months but 17 years. Pretty close to Halloween so these must be grown for commercial purposes and aren't going to be ploughed under hopefully. Field is in Ladner, BC.

This was taken on my first visit to Canyonlands NP. I was amazed at the silent, timeless beauty of the place and found it interesting to observe that this image, were it to be taken, at a different time of the year, would be an almost completely different image due to the sun striking the arch at a different point.
Being here reminded me of the Navajo prayer of Walking in Beauty. You just had to show up; the photo takes itself.

This year the Providence and Worcester Railroad continued to provide their passenger train and crew for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's extremely popular Polar Express trains with trains running and 3:30 and 6:30 PM Fri-Sun for a total of 42 sold out trips in 2024.
The train consist is deadheading south from Worcester to begin the final weekend of performances with B39-8E 3910 (GE blt. Dec. 1987 as LMX 8534) amidst a winter wonderland scene of the first significant snow of the year. They crossing in Blackstone River near MP 17.9 on the historic original Providence and Worcester mainline just north of the Rhode Island state line. This is the 10th of 14 crossings of the Blackstone along the 43 mile line when traveling south from Worcester to Providence.
As I've told you before in previous posts the P&W is my hometown road and it is inextricably linked to the river it follows both historically and physically. The Blackstone River courses 48 miles from its headwaters near Worcester (at the confluence of the Middle River and Mill Brook) to where it flows into the Seekonk River at the headwaters of Narragansett Bay. The river drains a watershed of 640 square miles and more importantly drops 450 feet in the 48 miles. It is that drop, that made this river a pivotal point in American History.
From ririvers.org: A series of steep drops along the length of the Blackstone River provided ideal conditions for the development of water powered industry. Samuel Slater arrived in America in 1790, with managerial experience and technical knowledge of textile manufacturing in England. With the assistance of local merchants and artisans, he helped establish the first successful water-powered textile mill in America. Slater Mill was established on the Blackstone River, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This achievement is credited with spawning the birth of America's industrial revolution. Development of the Slater textile mill catalyzed the development of water-driven technology throughout the length of the Blackstone River. By 1914 water-powered mills occupied all of the readily available dam sites in the Valley.
As the birthplace of industrial America, the need for transportation quickly arose in the valley, and between 1825 and 1828 the Blackstone Canal was constructed. The canal lasted only 20 years having been rendered obsolete by the opening of the Providence and Worcester Railroad in 1847. The railroad has proven to be a more durable method of transportation and 175 years after its opening here it is still serving the purpose for which it was built.

Zoom into nature’s blueprint—serrated edges, delicate trichomes, and a world of intricate detail in one tiny leaf. Nature never designs without purpose.
A large, former dairy barn is now used to shelter a few horses, a significant departure from its purpose years ago. Older people need a new purpose as they age otherwise deterioration sets in more quickly.
i really have no idea why i make these, or even think thoughts that have so little to do with anything...yet they happen. If anyone knows of a use or purpose for such images I wish they woud let me know...I can't seem to stop making them...and they don't pay the bills....

I wanted to do something with the accessories and fig from the new City tractor, so this is what came of that after a day of building. I also utilized some old chrome plates that were gathering dust. The gaps were included on purpose, as were the older/cracked bricks. The wheel/tire combo was done by Adam first, I believe.
" Widespread and common throughout Britain and Ireland...The eyespots have single white pupils unlike Gatekeeper which has two and is smaller and more orange with row of tiny white dots on hind underwings... The Meadow Brown is the most abundant butterfly species in many habitats....Hundreds may be seen together at some sites, flying low over the vegetation. Adults fly even in dull weather when most other butterflies are inactive...."

Road Trip 2013 - Day 16 - June 26 -Route 66 Part IV, Cadillac Ranch, Amarillo, TX
Off to the 16th day on the road leaving New Mexico in the rearview mirror and entering the Lone Star State. However, not leaving the Mother Road just yet ... #etbtsy
Road Trip: Route 66 Part IV: Cadillac Ranch
... There were still a few roadside attractions to be seen and miles of the road to be followed, and of course, being in Texas, some steak to be had. One such attraction awaited just outside Amarillo, TX - the Cadillac Ranch built all the way back ...
Cadillac Ranch is artwork created by the Ant Farm, displayed here solely for the purpose of documenting and sharing our road trip experience along Route 66 in Texas.
An old shot here.
Mostly updated for the purpose of fulfilling my tagged duties.
So 10 things you may not have known about me:
1) I think I am officially addicted to the $1 vanilla soft serve cones from McDonald's.
2) Whenever I discover a blog I really like, I usually read through or flip through the entire thing to see how the blogger's style has evolved. This gets pretty obsessive and time-consuming.
3) I am VERY near sighted - hoping that laser surgery will be cheaper and nearly perfected in the next 10 years or so. I currently own 3 pairs of glasses and still wear contacts...haha.
4) I think my current dream job is to be a photo editor of some kind of home/interior decorating magazine, because even more than I like taking pictures, I love discovering/looking through others' works and picking out what would look nice together. And of course still take pics on the side!
5) I have over a dozen moles/beauty marks on my face. I would love to get rid of some of them.
6) It makes me feel slightly superior to take longer subway rides than the people around me (totally irrational because they could be transferring but nonetheless...)
7) I have had sushi every Monday for the past month.
8) I think sushi would be a deal-breaker food for me, romantic-relationship wise :P (that and spicy food).
9) I could probably win an award for being bad at saving money.
10) I'm leaving for school for my FINAL year in exactly 2 weeks - AAH. One of my biggest concerns about the real world is not having health insurance once I turn 23 and am no longer in school or on my parents' insurance. Ridiculous right?! :P
Oh and if you have time, check out me, Bryan, and Justin's fun last night!
This purpose of this shot was mostly to test focusing my new Yashica T4. I also have been shooting the newest version of Kodak Gold 200. The greens may seem a little saturated, but the reality is that Seattle is super green this time of year.

Linus knows very well that mousie is off limits and he "borrows" it on purpose to provoke Fynn. Dawn over the Pantheon
Reputed to be one of the most preserved and influential building of ancient Rome. It is a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods of Rome. When approaching the front of the Pantheon one can see the inscription above. It still reads in Latin as the original dedication by Marcus Agrippa. The inscription reads:
"M. AGRIPPA.L.F.COSTERTIUM.FECIT”
“Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, made [this building] when consul for the third time”.

Panorama Mesdag is a panorama by Hendrik Willem Mesdag. Housed in a purpose-built museum in The Hague, the panorama is a cylindrical painting (also known as a Cyclorama) more than 14 metres high and about 40 metres in diameter (120 metres in circumference). From an observation gallery in the centre of the room the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century. A foreground of fake terrain around the viewing gallery hides the base of the painting and makes the illusion more convincing.
Mesdag was a notable marine painter of the Hague School; in 1880 he was engaged by a Belgian company to paint the panorama, which with the assistance of his wife Sientje Mesdag-van Houten and some student painters (including George Hendrik Breitner), was completed by 1881. However, the vogue for panoramas was coming to an end, and the company went bankrupt in 1886. Mesdag purchased the panorama and met its losses from his own pocket. The panorama is now the oldest surviving panorama in its original location.

A nostalgic view of the past awaits the visitor to the quaint old town of Talbot in central Victoria - Australia. Talbot is located within what was a very rich gold mining area between Maryborough and Clunes. Originally servicing a mining population of over 15,000 during the 1850s, today only a few hundred people live in Talbot. The town retains a number of historic buildings from its prosperous gold mining days.
