To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, a time to reap that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

What does it mean when robins sing?
Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, spring song is far more powerful in males. Robins are adapted to life in poor light and are often active in half-light when few other birds are about.
The robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round. This is due to the importance of holding winter territories.
Only for a short period in late summer while they are moulting and inconspicuous do robins stop singing. Both sexes sing.
As with the nightingale, the song is usually delivered from a concealed perch within a bush or a tree exposed perches are infrequent. Autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song starts after the moult, from late summer onwards. It is more subdued and melancholy in its tone, while the spring song is powerful, confident and upbeat.
The spring song can start as early as mid-December, reaching full force in spring. Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, spring song is far more powerful in males.

STOP ISRAEL BARBARITY

I´m not allowed by Flickr to link my personal website.... amazing....! After so many years... Maybe it´s a consequence of the Israel message, I don´t want to think bad, but I don´t believe in coincidences, moreover when lots of user are allowed to. If I continue here is because the great number of friends I´ve meet, but I´m taking advantage of this in order to complain and let you see the kind of injustice that Flickr is doing these days. Let´s see who can be more annoying...

TRUE THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT, MY FRIENDS. IT´S WHAT MAKES ME THINK TO CONTINUE HERE

Some autumne colours with Voigtländer Prominent Nokton 50mm f1.5. Wide open (and even closed to f2) Nokton has quite vintage character in terms of IQ. It is soft compared to all other Voigtlander lenses of same period. Noticable haze could be due to its age and quite abused front element. Not noticable fringing. Colours are rich and natural with a good contrast out of the camera with standard Nikon settings. Here I did some color grading for estetic purposes, not because it wass really needed.

A diminutive diver, one of our smallest ducks, often very energetic in its feeding. Related to the goldeneyes and, like them, nests in cavities; but unlike other hole-nesting ducks, the Bufflehead is small enough to use unmodified old nest holes of Northern Flickers, giving it a ready source of good nest sites. Less sociable than most ducks, seen in pairs or small groups, almost never in large flocks. Takes wing easily from the water, flies with rapid wingbeats. The name 'Bufflehead' is derived from 'buffalo-head,' for the male's odd puffy head shape.

In the Apuan Alps the spectacular Carrara marble quarries ( Fantiscritti) offer an evocative sight.
Here this precious white stone has been excavated since Roman times. Since then, it has been used for all sorts of different purposes: from the simple objects to more famous works of art and architecture: the Pantheon and Trajan's Column in Rome are constructed of it. Many sculptures of the Renaissance, such as Michelangelo's David, were carved from Carrara marble.
The location was chosen for the chase scene in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

The site as it stands today dates back to the 1950s and 1960s. Although these lakes are artificial, they were not created for tourism or leisure purposes.
Before the 1950s, Luxembourg exploited local sand pits in this area. In other words, quarries from which sand, gravel and pebbles were extracted for construction purposes. When the quarrying stopped, the artificially created basins filled up with groundwater. This is how the Remerschen lakes came into being.
This purpose of this shot was mostly to test focusing my new Yashica T4. I also have been shooting the newest version of Kodak Gold 200. The greens may seem a little saturated, but the reality is that Seattle is super green this time of year.
What I love so much about going back to photos I have taken over the years is how they not only bring back memories, but even more so the exact feelings I had while taking them. This was more than one and a half years ago when I had just moved to Stuttgart and began studying Visual Communication. It was a time of beautiful autumn colours, new friends and feeling whole again — and it is always lovely to remember those first weeks of a new life.

A futuristic floating island, with the purpose of sheltering a group of researchers who are currently on their expedition. But did you know it also doubles as a iceberg-themed science museum, which supports the running of the station financially?
The model was huge fun to design, I put sooooooooo many (perhaps too many) little details across the island, as I just couldn't resist the idea of things floating! The color choice of the roof was *in someway* inspired by Asuka's Evangelion Unit 02 from the Evangelion series (probably the movies)! stay tuned for more angle pics :-) Here is the other side of the building!
Huge thanks to Daiyuan for helping finalise the concept and adding interesting details!

"One Color”
Before you say it, no I did not copy off of TheMoosefigs, I took this photo around 8 hours ago and planned to do a thoughts picture after I saw the movie a second time, and that was 3 hours ago.
Honesty I don't know why I should be talking about that
Guardians Vol 2, wow is was really good. So I might to think it over, but this may be my favorite MCU film (not favorite Marvel film, Spiderman 2 is like a masterpiece). This movie had everything, a nice plot, great humor, great soundtrack, and great characterization. This is more of "character" film than the big budget sequel that most sequels aim for. We get to learn a lot about these characters and their relationship with one another. Quill has some problems with his dad, and Gamora, Gamora and Nebula have some complications, Drax talks a little more about his past, and Yondu talks a lot more about his past and his past eight the ravagers, Rocket and Groot....we're there really for comedic purposes. Speaking of which, I laughed like crazy in this film, even seeing it a second time I was laughing a ton.
So I want to talk about the villain which (Imo) the best mcu villain ever.
also SPOILERS
Ego was really well developed, he had a great Interaction with quill that really stands out against pad much villains. The twist with ego killing quill's mom made for a great purpose for quill to stop him. Also I love Kurt Russell
The films pacing, I do admit, does have a little struggle near the end with them about to destroy ego, and the gold people were really just...there. Saying that, the humor really carried the film and made it really enjoyable. And Yondu's death felt really sad and I actually cried. (I wasn't bawling like I was in Toy Story 3, but a couple tears were shed) And the ravagers coming to his funeral really completed Yondu's arc.
This movie was a complete blast and I highly recommend it.
We took a short trip to a place where the Harlequin Duck had been seen in the San Francisco Bay Area. This was our second trip for this purpose as the first was unsuccessful. The first day of three we hung out all day with no luck. Second day we did other things but checked back late afternoon. The third day we got up really early and got to the location, got some sunrise shots, and then casually looked around for the Harlequin not really expecting to see him. However, all by himself, there he was! He discovered us at the same time and gave us only a very brief opportunity to get some shots before he joined some of his Surf Scooter buddies way way away. Although he was never visible again, we waited a couple of hours hoping he would return to complete his photo session. He didn’t! This isn’t a great photo but it proves that we saw him.

I put this in the group, then took it out when I thought maybe only round baubles were the theme, then saw other non-round ornaments being accepted, so I've put it back in. Well, it is the purpose of cable cars to go back and forth, after all!
Looking close...on Friday: Christmas baubles. This souvenir of San Francisco is about 3 inches/7.5 cm across.
Happy holidays, Flickr friends!
Burns have entertainment value, but also purpose.
I have a special burn barrel with the bottom cut out. This is so I can move it around and place it on top of the large clumps of invasive non-native grass that I am trying to kill which is invading my wildflower meadow. (It's too rocky here to dig these deep-rooted grasses out).
The best time to kill grass with fire is in the summer when it is putting its energy into its leaves. In dormancy the plant's energy (and biomass) is safer, down in its roots. However, there is not enough burn load with the dead grass itself to eradicate it, so I use junk mail and other paper products. This is how grass was designed--to be grazed to the ground and be able to regrow.
I will continue to work this small plot through the summer, then it will take a couple years to build the micro-organisms back up, which I will hasten with an inoculation of soil from the creek, compost, and sprays of molasses. Then hopefully the wildflowers will recolonize.
Guarding the port entrance, the Riverside Gate has found a new purpose serving the travelling merchants, sailors and adventurers. Hence, it's flourishing map-making trade has earned it the 'Vellum Gate' nickname - though the city's many enemies tend to see it as proof of a weak defense...

Finally, finally, its here! My entry for the SJ '18, medieval industry category. Collabing with TM, HQ and ZG was amazing, thank you guys! Amour fern (Sadleria cyatheoides) grows out of cracks in lava, Hawaii
Ancient Hawaiians utilized ‘ama‘u fronds for various purposes, including as a mulch in the dry-land taro fields. Some ‘ama‘u tree ferns produce pulu, the soft wooly material also found in the hāpu‘u tree fern (Cibotium species). Pulu had many uses in ancient Hawai’i.
The ‘ama‘u tree fern also has connections to ancient myths and traditions. According to legend, the pig god Kamapua‘a may take the form of ‘ama‘u, and has done so at Halema‘uma‘u Crater, a pit crater within the larger Kīlauea Crater on Hawai‘i Island.

The larger team movements of a dragon dance differ from the smaller, more playful motions of a two-person lion dance. Unlike a Western dragon that brings mayhem, a Chinese dragon is a good thing. As a leader at the top of the chain, a dragon drives away lesser evil forces. That retains good fortune and a safe haven for a community.
One more thing. The powerful dragon represented the imperial power of the Emporer, a centralized power of immense proportion, whose privileged purpose was to bring protection, stability, and prosperity to China's folks.

MPPS - 001 is a dieselpunk exosuit made mostly from scrap parts put together masterfully by a certain mechanic.
In the post apocalyptic age, there are many evildoers (and zombies!) and human strength alone would not cut it when it came down to defending your own resources and home turf.
This exosuit was made primarily for firepower but it is also used for lifting various heavy objects and materials. It stands about 14 feet tall and weights about 2,300 lbs. It features two Gatling guns on either arm which can be turned around if melee combat is called for and to lift things as well. The forearm's side panels can be lifted up for reloading and electronics maintenance. The shoulders have reactive pistons which shift in accordance to the required movement. The pilot has two levers on either hand which act as joysticks for controlling the machine. There are some exposed tubed wiring on the elbow and at the backpack as well for hydraulic purposes. The machine is quite articulate and can do many poses as well as actions.
In this scene they happen to pass by the remains of a long forgotten mech and will get metal scraps for maintaining their truck and the exosuit as well.
Note: The suit details I mentioned are really articulated.

Pastel on newsprint
I made this shortly after I started doing art at age 56. There was no preconceived idea. I just picked up a piece of pastel and started moving my hand and arm on the paper. This is the image that resulted. When I showed it to the teacher of an art class I had just started, he said "What were you on when you did THAT?", lol! The answer: nothing. I was just following the impulses as they popped up within. I made this in the horizontal orientation. It was only after it was done and I turned it to this vertical orientation that I saw that it resembled a serpent.
At the time, and for years prior, I spent many hours each day in mantra meditation, pranayama breathing, and yoga asanas, and had experienced many moments of expanded awareness and bliss. But I knew almost nothing about kundalini or its awakening.
I now know that the Sanskrit word "kundalini" means "coiled one". In the Dharma religions, it is a primal energy, or shakti, located at the base of the spine. Different spiritual traditions teach methods of "awakening" kundalini for the purpose of reaching spiritual enlightenment. Kundalini is described as lying "coiled" at the base of the spine, represented as either a goddess or sleeping serpent waiting to be awakened. ... To me, this image reflects the creative phase of the creation/maintenance/destruction cycle.
Kundalini awakening is said to result in deep meditation, enlightenment and bliss. This awakening involves the Kundalini physically moving up the central channel to reach within the Sahasrara Chakra at the top of the head. Many systems of yoga focus on the awakening of Kundalini through meditation, pranayama breathing, the practice of asana and chanting of mantras. In physical terms, many report the Kundalini experience to be a feeling of electric current running along the spine.
—Adapted from Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini
Also, " ... The Supreme Brahman is described as the swallower, devourer (attā = soul) of the universe; for just as he creates and maintains it, he destroys it also. But where does it go when it is destroyed? One answer may be that it simply vanishes. But the Upanishads are opposed to such an idea of destruction. Only the forms and shapes of the world are gone, but not the being of the world, which is the Being of the Brahman. Then what happens to the world? It is absorbed, assimilated to the Brahman. The Brahman swallows, absorbs, assimilates the world to itself."
