Today I saw the first pup! It spent most of its time on the back side of the rock, but after its mom went in it started bawling and humped its way over the top. After several false starts it finally made it into the water to join its mom.

This is a shot I wanted to try before I got to Ohau. It's a seal pup at the base of the waterfall taken at high iso with a short exposure combined with a long exposure with a CPL for the rest of the scene. If you've been there, you know that there are many pups constantly splashing in the background and it's pretty dark in there! The polariser made the scene appear nicer overall but really limited the ability to take action shots because of the higher iso needed. Charlotte also became more interested in my tripod than the seals after a while, so we ended up just watching rather than photographing

Having had the extreme privilege to watch African Wild Dogs and their most amazing interactions with each other for four days, I am still in shock to think that this was the first time in so many years that I have seen den-based Wild Dog pups. I truly am thankful for this.
In four days, I was able to to capture only a few keepers of the pups, as they just know how to always be under bushes and grass, and never be in the open. This one venturing up on a fallen tree was an absolute highlight, and at last, an image where it was in the open!
Just for Ken!
Another of the pups seen on my very enjoyable visit to see the seals on Thursday.
This and the white one uploaded yesterday are the extremes of the colouring of the pups seen. I intend uploading at least 2 other pups with colouring in between these 2 extremes.
Thanks for 1st place in the 104th batch Admin Choice Picks PLATINUM PEACE AWARD
Skye turned one year old recently, but she is still a puppy, just larger. She is definitely still a puppy for snow, it makes her a crazy dog! These two shots of Skye were taken about 10 months apart.
Went to see the seals gathered at Donna Nook in Lincolnshire. It's the time of year the pups are born. This one was close to the fence separating humans from seals.

Quick trip to Holyrood yesterday.
Note to buddy who thought he could pet these seals they ain't pets and they are not vegans they eat fish and your fingers would be just as tasty.
For much of the year grey seals at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trusts’ Donna Nook National Nature Reserve are at sea or hauled out on distant sandbanks. Every November and December, the seals give birth to their pups near the sand dunes. At the peak towards the end of November there are c 650 bulls, 1550 cows and 1750 pups.
