The longitudinal north railway. During the end of the 1800's and the end of 1970s this was the most important way to move people, goods and the most important commodities of the time (copper and saltpeper) to the different ports across the coast and connect main north cities and towns to the capital of the country Santiago. But since all operations stopped, all the infrastructure that survives (stations, rails, tunnels, bridges, etc) were left abandoned so in most cases are just for remembering how old, well built and big everything was at one point of the time. Some of this bridges are the reason why I'm considering more travelling to Valpaiso, Coquimbo and Antofagasta Regions in the near future to capture all this abandoned pieces of history for Chile, like in this past travel I did to Pichidangui where I stopped in La Ligua to take this photo. This iron bridge in particular was built in 1909 to 1910 and it's around 150m long and it's now a pedestrian bridge for the people who lives around it.

365/365: This is it.

Project 365 is a wrap! I started this a year ago without much expectations, just a desire to push myself deeper into photography and boy have I learned a lot. It's been an aeon, it's been hard and painful at times, fun at most. I've made so many new friends, contacts, acquaintances on and offline as a result of this project. This project most certainly changed my life in a way, opening up so many opportunities that wouldn't have been available to me.

And there's so many people to thank. First and foremost would of course be, you. Yes you, your comments and encouragement are what that fueled me through the past year. Then there's my sister, whose been a helpful assistant in quite a few shots (including today's grand finale) and a great contributor in deciding which take to upload when I'm in the least decisive. There are my fellow coursemates, who've been really supportive of my endeavor, putting up with my shutterbugging all the while in campus and sometimes even sportingly being subjects of my photos.

There are a lot more thing's I'd like to say regarding 365 days worth of this project. Look out for a post on this on my main blog, as soon as I organize my thoughts and pull through this hectic period of the Lunar New Year celebrations.

Quite a few friends had asked me if I intend to continue with a second *shrug* year. YES! I'll most definitely won't be, heh. A year in photos is enough, way enough. As for what I'll intend to do after this, well.. I'll probably upload a few more 365 outtakes from last year as well as of course, fresh ones when I have the luxury to do so. It feels so nice to be able to stick to my own schedule now.

To those of you who've just started your 365's for the year, good luck! It'll be over sooner that you think. =) So, thank you, for following me on my journey. It's been great going through all of it with you all.

Tll next time! *bows out* =)

I miss shooting classic CSXT GP40-2s here but this was kind of cool and who knows if it will happen again.

More than six months ago these pseudo Rio Grande units showed up in New England delivered by CSXT to the Grafton and Upton. I I caught them coming in seen here: flic.kr/p/2kvD55R/ but hadn't seen them since. Initially it was hoped they would be new lease power for the G&U, but soon it was learned that they were only coming to North Grafton for PTC installation and testing before heading to Metro North allegedly for use by a third party contractor doing fiber optic installation along the RofW.

For more than six months they have just sat and the protracted installation process took place, but this week they were seen out on the road being tested in regular service by the G&U. Unsure how long they will be around or how much they will be used, when I heard they would be making a run to Bellingham I knew I had to drop what I was doing and go try for a few shots.

After starting at Old Upton Road I chased them to North Grafton where they paused briefly to drop their four cars. From there it was a light engine run to Milford to swap ends and head down the old New Haven branch toward Blue Linx to pull one empty.

While not original Rio Grande units they wear the latter day black and orange that is a reasonable facsimile of that road's last paint scheme and similar to modern day Wheeling and Lake Erie. Owned by Precion Locomotive Services LLC of Staunton, VA PNLX 2107 is a Wabtec/MPI MP20GP acquired from the Union Pacific where it was their UPY 2107. Rebuilt in August 2006 as a low emissions unit for service in Texas it was originally an EMD GP50 blt. Nov. 1980 as Missouri Pacific 3504. PNLX 9619 is a GMDD GP40-2LW originally blt. Aug. 1975 for the CN with the same number.

Here the GU1 crew has arrived at their destination at the Bluelinx lumber distribution facility, and they are separating the power before picking up the one empty RBOX that they will take back to North Grafton sandwiched between the two units.

PULL IN.
