I always go in this side room in the hothouse when I visit Wisley gardens as it has the most amazing floor and there are always puddles from the mornings watering.

Taking a walk after rain I decided to shoot every puddle on the way. Konica Recorder with Polypan F, contrast added.
My little boy recently got some rubber boots to walk on the trail with, as this time of year it's always full of puddles. Boy does he love the water....and the mud....and the rocks.... :)
Wormy had a go on the scooter, but found it a little difficult to negotiate. The kids had a blast though...through puddles was the best!
Getting everything ready for PUDDLE (Pullip Con) this Saturday! I'll have many things available for sale: dresses, vests, scarves, headbands, socks, and some other accessories. I hope it will be a lot of fun!
Having this goal to focus on has really helped me these past few months. After PUDDLE is over it will be time to focus on making things for BlytheCon Chicago in October. I'm very thankful to have these opportunities this year! After BlytheCon is over, I think I'll just focus on making BJD clothing for a long time, I'm a little 1:6th'd out! My BJDs are jealous of all the new clothing my smaller dolls are getting, they are looking up at me with puppy dog eyes, begging for new outfits. I might try to make a few MSD and SD mori sets after PUDDLE before I tackle BlytheCon, I've had the materials for them sitting in bags for months, all ready to go.

This was an image that touched me deeply, it reminded me of when I was little, my boys were small… every child should be allowed to play with sticks etc in a puddle!

Manú Biosphere Reserve, Peru
Dozens of Pierid butterflies have gathered on the bank of the Manú River to drink salts from the mineral-rich clay - a behaviour known as 'puddling'.

Hopefully some of those puddles will return to ponds. I'll have a look later. Missing those ponds...
2nd attempt at some video. It gets a bit muddled / distorted at the point where it slows down. Not too sure why, but I hope to eventually figure it out!
EDIT - i only just realised that I left the sound on. I thought it was silent....turns out the laptop was on mute when I was tweaking it :-(

Puddling
Is male puddling behavior of tropical butterflies targeted at sodium for nuptial gifts or activity?
ABSTRACT
An apparent sexual difference in adult feeding behaviour in many species of Lepidoptera relates to puddling on mud, dung and carrion. In most butterfly species, puddling is exclusively a male behaviour. A possible explanation for this division in feeding behaviour is that nutrients derived from puddling are transferred to the female in the spermatophore during mating as a nuptial gift. Sodium derived from puddling has been shown to act as a nuptial gift in a few Lepidoptera species. It can also be used for neuromuscular activity in both males and females and may therefore correlate with flight morphology. In this study, we examine the generality of these two hypotheses in comparative work on a community of African fruit-feeding butterflies. We investigated puddling behaviour of males and females on carrion and dung together with sodium preferences, polyandry, relative wing-size, sexual size dimorphism and sodium concentrations in the bodies and spermatophores of several species. The results show that sodium as a nuptial gift can explain the sexual division in puddling in some species, but not in all. Species in which both sexes puddle transfer little sodium in the nuptial gift, which is consistent with the nuptial gift theory. Wing loading and puddling are not significantly correlated, but the trend followed the direction predicted by the activity hypothesis. However, the sodium concentration in the species with the smallest wing area to thoracic volume (WA/TV) ratio (the largest Charaxes spp.), was relatively low. Moreover, in all investigated species, the sodium concentration was higher in the abdomen than in the thorax. The results are discussed in the light of differences between the sexes in foraging behaviour in both larvae and adults, and with respect to alternative explanations for puddling. © 2005 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2005, 86, 345–361

After my lunch this afternoon, (BBQ chicken, coleslaw, and crab salad) I adjusted my tripod, and through my open window,
I focused my camera in on a huge flock of Lapland Longspurs that were playing in the puddles that have quickly formed by the melting snow. With a solid blue sky overhead, and the warm sun beating down, I felt like I had entered the Garden of Eden. All I could hear was the contented sounds of the birds, as they availed themselves of birdseed - and the occasional splash of water as a few of them bathed. With my camera focused on the puddle action to my left - I suddenly heard the swoop of wings as a shrike plunged down right in front of me and grabbed one of the Longspurs. As the death struggle began, the rest of the now stressed flock, took off into the air, and disappeared from sight. I tried to swing my camera around to capture the action - but maybe it's just as well I didn't succeed. Now if only I could delete the scene from my memory.
Found a reflection pond and a stone . Threw the stone ...created ripples ...took the photos ... stitched together .
Taken yesterday morning, a beautiful sky, but gale force bitterly cold wind. There were two farms on this road, but heavy overnight rain, made the going very difficult. If you look at the map, you will see the last two images are all close together, in the same area.
