A very busy "Sports Bar" with a good selection of ales.

Wednesday we walked 4km roundtrip from the Four Mile Pub northbound to Fort Victoria Mobile Home Park along the E&N Rail Trail.

After receiving directions from the friendly, park manager, we found our friends site but no one was home.

We arrived back at the 4Mile at noon and had lunch in the pub.

We then drove to the kids' home in View Royal to check out the hired-man's stone work in the back garden. Bentley gave us the grand tour and everything looks just swell.

The Horns is a Freehouse and restaurant, located at Slitting Mill just outside, Rugeley, Staffordshire.

Situated on the fringe of Cannock Chase the pub sign is of a Red Deer stag, one of the three species of deer that roam the Chase. To the rear of the pub is Horns pool, a favoured spot for fishing, and (when i were a lad, a place to find frogs).

This is the first posting of an occasional mini-stream depicting Public Houses in the district, before to many of them disappear.

An English Pub on Main Street in Santa Barbara. I love the no wankers decal in the window.

Random night walking back from the pub.

Side entrance from Marks and Spencers.

This well-known Moortown pub has been shut for a few months now, since around May 2007. For the last couple of years it was just The Bull, previously The Chained Bull, Harrogate Road, Leeds

It was knocked down on June 9 2008 to make way for expansion of the Marks and Spencers store next to it.

An aerial view from behind the pub can be seen on Leodis at www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIdentifier=2002821_58... and Leodis also has a photo of the original Chained Bull from 1925 www.leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIdentifier=200273_103...

The pub was built in 1834 by John Hargreaves, of Broad Oak, the eldest son of Thomas Hargreaves, of Oak Hill. The Hargreaves family was the foremost family in Accrington at the time and the largest employers at Broad Oak Printworks and associated works.

Most of the building on the south side of Accrington was due to them -- Oak Hill itself in 1815, Warner Street in 1821, Broad Oak Mill in Church Street in 1834 and the home of family members at Broad Oak House, Bank House and Arden Hall.

Taken while the pub was under threat of closure / demolition. Thankfully it's had a small reprieve but the battle to save it is still ongoing !

UPDATE 2012

Sadly it's been demolished ... but the stonework / fittings etc has been saved and will be erected inside St Fagans in a few years time (?).

We don't see many pubs around these days; they are bought and converted into "luxury apartments" by greedy property developers. Pubs are great places in which you take photos - they are full of characters and characters.

Wine bars and modern bars do not lend themselves to interesting photography.
