Bamforth & Co. (1870-1990)
James Bamforth began his career as a manufacturer of lantern slides. In 1890 he started production of illustrated song lyric slides that audiences could sing along to at shows. This quickly became his most popular selling item. In the years following, the Company became the largest producer of life model slides.
From this vast photo inventory Bamforth began to publish a variety of postcard types including comics, greetings, propaganda, real photos and views, but especially song sets, many of which were reproduced from lantern slide images.
Today they are best remembered for their series of saucy seaside postcards, which may have numbered close to a 100,000 different titles. While this series was begun in 1902, they did not become very popular until the 1930’s.
In 1906 Bamforth opened a New York Office at 35 West 21st. Street. By 1910 they had become a Limited company. The Company was sold to E. T. W. Dennis, but in 2000 the rights to their images were purchased by Ian Walker.

Mercoledì 9 settembre 2020 il programma della Estate Sforzesca 2020 prosegue con la tappa milanese del Momentum Tour del supergruppo strumentale Calibro 35. Il concerto si svolge alle ore 21.30 presso il Cortile delle Armi del Castello Sforzesco di Milano.
La vera generosità verso il futuro consiste nel donare tutto al presente: nel 1951 il Premio Nobel per la Letteratura Albert Camus scriveva questa frase facendo tesoro del concetto più antico del pensiero umano da Oriente ad Occidente, lo stesso declamato dai latini con l’espressione Hic et Nunc che è anche fondamento dello Zen, l’arte di camminare sul sottile filo dell’adesso. A vent’anni dall’inizio del Terzo Millennio, in un’epoca quanto mai sospesa tra nostalgia del passato e ansia per gli scenari apocalittici prospettati quotidianamente dai media, i Calibro 35 hanno realizzato un’opera che fotografa al meglio il momento e il suo contesto.
Il disco Momentum, uscito lo scorso 24 gennaio, rappresenta un nuovo punto di partenza per una delle formazioni contemporanee che più è riuscita a superare declinazioni di genere e forme espressive, mantenendo una personalità totalmente riconoscibile e apprezzata a livello internazionale. Se dal 2007, anno in cui prende il via l’avventura, il sound espresso dalla band si sviluppa indagando in special modo i suoni di un’epoca passata, Momentum rappresenta la necessaria svolta per sondare come si possa fare musica al giorno d’oggi: una riflessione sull’attualità, capace di far tesoro di ciò che c’è stato per andare oltre, col fermo intento di realizzare un’opera destinata a rimanere, senza correre il rischio di trasformarsi in una bella foto sbiadita sul fondo di un baule.
Una scelta tutt’altro che scontata per la creatura a cinque teste di Cavina, Colliva, Gabrielli, Martellotta e Rondanini, cinque personalità cardine dell’attuale scena musicale nostrana (e non solo) intenzionate a rimettersi in gioco proprio nel momento in cui si affermano su scala globale, raccogliendo attestati di stima tangibili come i campionamenti ad opera di Jay-Z e Dr. Dre e, ancora, firmando colonne sonore per produzioni cinematografiche da Hollywood al Vecchio Continente, sino alla consacrazione sui principali palchi mondiali accanto a mostri sacri come Muse, Sharon Jones, Sun Rae Arkestra e Thundercat.

Yungblud, uno degli artisti più promettenti del panorama musicale made in UK, un mix esplosivo e accattivante di rock e pop che caratterizza il suo stile unico, dopo il clamoroso successo dei tour sold out in Europa e in America, arriva in italia per uno show elettrizzante il 2 novembre al Fabrique di Milano.
Yungblud, nome d’arte di Domenic Harrison classe 1997, lascia la scuola a soli 16 anni per dedicarsi alla musica, un mezzo con cui comunicare ad una generazione confusa trattando tematiche importanti.
Il successo arriva con il singolo “I Love You, Will You Marry Me”, incluso nell’Ep “Yungblud” pubblicato il 19 gennaio 2018. “21st Century Liablity” è il titolo dell’album di debutto pubblicato a luglio 2018, il quale ha riscosso notevole successo in tutto il mondo grazie a canzoni come, “Psychotic Kids”, “California” e “Medication”.
Influenzato dai grandi nomi del rock come The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Green Day e T. Rex, il suo stile paragonato a quello degli Arctic Monkeys e di Jamie T, è un mix esplosivo e accattivante di rock e pop, ricco di potenti assoli di chitarra e battiti energici. Yungblud ha collaborato con Charlotte Lawrence al singolo “Falling Skies”, incluso insieme a “Tin Pan Boy” nella colonna sonora della seconda stagione di 13 Reason Why.
“Loner” è il titolo dell’ultimo incredibile singolo, pubblicato il 18 gennaio.

Grande ritorno live per Emma che da venerdì riporterà la sua energia e la sua voce unica sul palco con Adesso Tour, che la vedrà protagonista nei palasport delle principali città italiane: il 17 settembre a Milano al Mediolanum Forum di Assago.
Ma Emma non è solo musica…oggi, infatti, esce “Dentro è tutto acceso” il suo primo, attesissimo, diario. “Dentro è tutto acceso” non è la biografia di EMMA, ma un lemmario, una serie di parole chiave per altrettanti capitoli, dove la parola si alterna alle immagini con fotografie inedite e disegni. E’ un racconto per temi, colorato e divertente, capace di emozionare, far piangere e ridere.
Con “Adesso” salgono a 12 i dischi di platino ottenuti da Emma solo per i suoi album. Il brano è stato scritto dalla stessa Emma insieme a Diego Mancino e Dario Faini.
Uscito a oltre due anni e mezzo dall’ultimo album di inediti “Schiena”, “Adesso” è una fotografia istantanea di Emma, come una polaroid la racconta per l’esatto momento che sta vivendo ora.
Nell’album Emma è tornata ad essere autrice: la title track “Adesso (Ti voglio bene)” è stata scritta interamente dall’artista, che ha co-firmato altri due brani dell’album: “Per questo paese” e “Il paradiso non esiste”.
Durante lo show Emma presenta Valentina Pitzalis che è sopravvissuta a un tentativo di omicidio da parte del marito (che l'ha cosparsa di cherosene e le ha dato fuoco) dal quale era separata da oltre un anno.

Unfortunately the article wasn’t published, a heinous error that I put down to my photo being so good that it would completely overshadow the other articles in the said publication - that’s what I’ve been telling myself anyway. Rock In IdRho si tinge ancora una volta dei grandi nomi internazionali, senza dimenticare il Made in Italy con due giornate all’insegna della migliore musica live!
Due giorni indimenticabili di musica e divertimento che tingeranno di rock Milano il 13 giugno al Carroponte di Sesto San Giovanni (attenzione capienza limitata, consigliamo l’acquisto in prevendita!) e il 21 luglio all’Arena Rho Fiera che verrà configurata ad hoc per ospitare la nuova edizione del festival.
Per tre lunghi anni, spesso in solitaria on the road nel tentativo di raggiungere più gente possibile, Frank Turner ha continuato a cercare il successo raggiungendo un seguito sempre più crescente. E’ però con la partecipazione al Reading e Leeds festival del 2008 che la sua carriera di solista è davvero decollata. Con un set carico ed emozionale, ha raccolto sotto al tendone in cui suonava un’incredibile massa di kids che hanno partecipato a uno show sing-a-long intensissimo, che ha incuriosito immediatamente l’interesse del mainstream britannico. Frank era avvezzo al festival dopo aver partecipato la prima volta, nel 2005, con la band hardcore Million Dead nella quale militava, ed esserci poi tornato nel 2007 in un primo tentativo sperimentale come artista solista, con il suo debutto “Sleep Is For The Week” il successo stava già crescendo nell’underground.

Martedì 17 luglio, alle ore 21,30, presso il Cortile della Armi del Castello Sforzesco di Milano il poliedrico cantautore Sananda Maitreya, già conosciuto al pubblico come Terence Trent D’Arby, presenterà dal vivo il suo nuovo disco “Prometheus & Pandora” e celebrerà trent’anni di vita dedicata alla musica, assieme a The Sugar Plum Pharaons. Il concerto rientra nella manifestazione “Estate Sforzesca” organizzata dal Comune di Milano.

Artista, compositore, arrangiatore, produttore, polistrumentista, imprenditore e post Millennium Rocker, Sananda Maitreya è nato a New York negli Stati Uniti il 15 marzo 1962. Suona gli strumenti base del Rock: batteria, basso, chitarra e tastiere.
È cresciuto in America e durante la sua giovinezza è stato addestrato come pugile a Orlando e ha vinto il campionato dei pesi leggeri Golden Gloves Florida nel 1980. Ha prestato servizio nell'esercito degli Stati Uniti per 3 anni e 1 in Germania, dove è diventato anche il cantante principale della band The Touch. Nel 1987 il suo album di debutto "Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby" gli dà successo internazionale.
Nel 2016 ha iniziato la registrazione del suo nuovo progetto chiamato "Prometheus & Pandora", il triplo album uscito il 13 ottobre 2017. Parallelamente alla produzione degli album in studio, la TreeHouse ha pubblicato 4 album live "Influenza in Firenze", "Camels at the Crossroads" e "Lovers & Fighters", "Confessions of a Zooathaholic" e un DVD "Live at the Blue Note Milano". Gli album live sono stati registrati durante i suoi concerti e festival europei. Il 2017 è il 30° anniversario della suo primo album da solita: "Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby".

Benessere d’Autunno è il terzo evento di Snello BlindBox che si è svolto il 26 ottobre 2013 nel suggestivo spazio di InKitchen LOFT
Infatti, la sua cucina ampia e funzionale si è rilevata la cornice ideale per accogliere ben sei Food Blogger e, per la precisione, tre coppie, due femminili e una maschile. Insomma una gara complessa e una sfida ancora più alta poiché i due chef di ogni coppia, nel brevissimo tempo a disposizione, hanno dovuto innanzitutto trovare l’armonia giusta tra loro, coordinare alla perfezione i loro gesti, e comunque battere per gusto, inventiva e sensibilità gastronomica gli altri partecipanti.
Eppure non avevamo dubbi che anche questa volta avrebbero saputo sorprenderci con i loro accostamenti, e meravigliarci per creatività, bravura e competenza, ancora una volta regalandoci quel sincero entusiasmo per la buona cucina che si accompagna perfettamente all’intrattenimento di gusto.

Unite in coppia elettiva grazie al cibo, amano lasciarsi incantare da quei molti ingredienti che, da nord a sud lungo tutta l’Italia, infine si trasformano in piatti d’eccezione. Ma per loro la cucina è anche una fucina di incontri e contaminazioni in cui mescolare buona compagnia, ingredienti genuini, semplicità e allegria. Le loro parole d’ordine? “Insieme” e “con gusto”!

“Tra Oriente e Occidente” avrebbe potuto essere il sottotitolo di questo blog “a due posti” in cui Giovanna (Jo) – vietnamita – e Francine (Francesca) – italiana – mescolano la loro amicizia con le suggestioni di una cucina che non bada a barriere e, anzi, ama osare, sfatando miti e fondendo tradizioni, tra forchette e bacchette, curiosando, osservando, conoscendo, con una continua, irrinunciabile attrazione per le novità – tutte quelle da gustare, almeno. Il loro motto? Proprio come recita il loro blog: “Cucina senza confini”!
