My interview of awesome Ashley Brundage has finally been published in TransLiving International No. 68 now available in hardcopy.

Ashley's portrait was even featured on the cover as a teaser.

Funny - that photo of Ashley and I together (below) demonstrates how I look up to her. Perfect!

Hi Folks,

I just published a new imaging project on my Website!

LDN 1235 - The Shark Nebula - My 1st Dark Nebula Target!

I typically shoot galaxies or bright nebulae, but there is a category of targets out there that are dark dust clouds that obscure the light of the stars behind them.

This is my first. It is the result of 7.4 hours of LRGB exposure on my FRA400 Platform.

This target is about 1000 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus.

I did not think this would work out, as I was using an older camera with less quantum efficiency, I was pointed towards the city of Rochester and its light pollution, and I could not see the shark at all on individual subframes.

I thought this was too faint a target. But I was able to see it once the subs were stacked and was able to tease the signal from the background noise!

The full story of this project,

including a detailed processing walkthrough, can be seen here:

Thanks for looking!

My spider monkey photo published in the latest 'World of animals' magazine.

Today this pic made the front page of Centralia's Fireside Guard newspaper! It's my first officially published photo! Though I'm really happy about all of this the pic was attached to a story about the recent nasty weather where a young woman was killed by a lightning strike.

"Books are weapons in the war of ideas."

I'm reading Ernie Pyle's BRAVE MEN, a wonderful, anecdotal treatment of his experiences as a wartime correspondent/journalist in Europe (various parts). He tries to give a picture of the daily life, in and out of combat, of the soldier/sailor/airman, and he makes a wonderful and very readable job of it. Sadly, Ernie was killed on a small Pacific Island in 1945 and never got to appreciate a well-earned postwar life. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize earlier that year. Ernie's previous book, which I also enjoyed, perhaps more so, was called HERE IS YOUR WAR, about experiences in North Africa.

For more on Ernie, see:

Ernie's stateside home was in Albuquerque, NM. The house is now a branch of the city's public library, functioning as such, as well as serving as a museum to Ernie's life, career, and contributions to literature and journalism.

Today I was having a quick look at my dad's newspaper ("TA NEA" which if I'm not wrong is the largest circulation daily newspaper in Greece) and my eyes stopped on a photo that looked quite familiar. The photo - which you can see here: i88.photobucket.com/albums/k186/alexring_bucket/AthensBik...

was from last year's Athens Bike Festival, (where I happened to be the official photographer) and it certainly looked a lot like one I had shot back then.

I looked at the photo credits and just saw the name of the organizers (which is not strange as in many cases you sell them the photos and they use them at wish without having to mention the photographer as you sell them all your rights too)

Mostly out of curiosity I checked my archives and saw that it was indeed a photo of mine, the one you see above. I can say that it feels nice to be published in such a popular media, even if no-one knows it's yours...

Btw I have already been contacted to shoot this years Bike Festival (starting at 20 Sept.) Who knows, maybe I'll see another photo of mine in next year's newspapers...
