Three copies of the coolest calendar ever arrived in the mail today. It's called Sweden Rocks. It features photos of some of the best Swedish rock artists today. Amon Amarth, Crucified Barbara, Dead by April, Dia Psalma, Hammerfall, Mando Diao, Millencolin, Motörhead, Opeth, Sonic Syndicate, The Hives and The Soundtrack of Our Lives. And it's all for a good cause. The calendar comes from Animal Rights Sweden. Oh, and one of the featured photographers is yours truly. My photo can be seen on the October page where you can also see a photo of Mikkey Dee from Motörhead. If you would like a copy you can order one here.

Zara Maria Larsson è una cantante, compositrice e ballerina svedese.
È nota a livello mondiale soprattutto per i suoi singoli di successo Lush Life, Uncover e Never Forget You e per aver collaborato con David Guetta alla realizzazione di This One's for You, ovvero l'inno degli Europei di calcio 2016 (certificato doppio Platino in Italia), e Tinie Tempah in Girls Like.
Zara Larsson è un fenomeno tutto in ascesa. La star ha pubblicato lo scorso 17 marzo in tutto il mondo il suo album “So Good” via Sony Music. Il video della title-track, brano scritto per lei da Charlie Puth, contiene il featuring di Ty Dolla $ign e ha totalizzato finora oltre 20 milioni di visualizzazioni su YouTube. L’album include anche la hit “Lush Life”, singolo certificato terzo disco platino in Italia, “Ain’t My Fault” (certificato Oro), il brano “Never Forget You” insieme a MNEK (certificato platino) e l’ultimo singolo attualmente in radio “Don’t Let Me Be Yours”, scritto da Ed Sheeran.
Dal 31 marzo ha preso il via, insieme ai Clean Bandit - band che ha scelto Zara come featuring artist per la loro hit “Simphony”- il tour negli Stati Uniti e in Canada dove la ventenne cantante svedese ha già uno zoccolo duro di fan.
Esibirsi in concerto è ciò che Zara Larsson ama di più fare: “Il mio sogno è stare di fronte a 25mila persone in un palazzetto sold-out e sapere che ognuno uscirà con un mio ricordo. Questo è davvero meraviglioso”.

Block B: il lato hip-hop del fenomeno K-Pop, live per l’unica data italiana del tour Block Party
1000 biglietti venduti in meno di una settimana, una media di 8 milioni di views a video: arrivano per la prima volta a Milano i Block B, band hip hop sudcoreana che ha già conquistato Russia, America e Giappone.
Dopo il successo del live dei Nu’ Est il 30 novembre scorso, il team di KpopItalia, sull’onda della sempre più crescente K-Pop mania che sta contagiando l’Italia (200mila fan), ritorna in campo portando sul palco del Fabrique di Milano un altro gruppo-icona della scena K-Pop. Un movimento che sta conquistando sempre più estimatori nel mondo, ma soprattutto un universo musicale assolutamente unico che fonde note, coreografie e look d’avanguardia. Per la prima volta in Italia, l’8 marzo, il locale di via Fantoli 9 ospita l’esibizione di Zico, Jae Hyo, U-Kwon, B-Bomb, Taeil, P.O e Kyung. Ovvero i Block B (acronimo di Blockbuster), una della band hip hop più amate del panorama K-Pop. Dei veri unconventional idol che, anche grazie ai loro straordinari video, hanno scalato in fretta le classifiche ufficiali e che daranno vita a un live avvincente dedicato a tutti i loro fan italiani.
In meno di una settimana il portale Ciaotickets.com è stato preso d’assalto registrando la vendita quasi immediata di oltre 1000 biglietti, un affettuoso arrembaggio che ha addirittura mandato in crash il sistema per qualche ora.
Da rappresentanti ribelli del lato hip-hop dell’universo K-Pop, a leader delle classifiche. Tra videoclip dal taglio cinematografico, look da capogiro e hit di successo, breve storia dei Block B: sette ragazzi partiti da una scommessa del rapper Cho Pd e arrivati a conquistare i palcoscenici di tutto il mondo.
From photographer's notes - "Mike Patris and Steve Crise published a book of their PERY archive photos, before and after. I was really impressed with their work. I decided to try to do the same thing they did on a smaller scale. I have a lot of respect for the work that they did after doing it myself.
I doubt if there are many of us who will go back and try to find the exact location that they took a picture sixty three years ago. I can tell you it is a lot of work. It is also a humbling experience. I felt like I had stepped into a time machine. My minds eye still
remembered the original picture that I took at these locations but when standing there sixty three years later it is like stepping out of the time machine. Day to day we don't always notice the changes around us. But many years later the changes are drastic. Most of the before pictures were taken when I was nineteen. And now at eighty two it is a shocking reminder of how old I am. lol."

Some consider cattle the oldest form of wealth, and cattle raiding consequently one of the earliest forms of theft. The word cattle derives from the latin caput (head), and originally meant moveable property and is closely related to the word "chattel."

Daredevil/Thief of Sherwood/The Book of Genesis

For a change of pace, this column will be a potpourri, as we look at three very different comics that are all worthy of attention.
In the field of costumed superhero comics, one of the better examples in “Daredevil” (Marvel Comics, $1). Boasting fine art and a mature script, the current issue (#297) begins a four-part story pitting the blind superhero against his archenemy, the Kingpin.
The book also illustrates the change comics have undergone in the past decade. Where it once could have been enjoyed by children of all ages, “Daredevil” is now much more appropriate for those in their teens and older. It gives further proof to our recurring contention that comics aren’t just for kids anymore. Adolescents who like the adventures of superheroes should find plenty to enjoy in this book.
A few weeks back, I gave thumbs down to a horribly painted comic book version of Robin Hood. This time around, I am happy to sing the praises of a comic entitled “Thief of Sherwood” (A-Plus Comics, $2.25).
Produced by a small Canadian publisher in black-and-white, the book is superior to the previous work in both story and art. The first installment of this four-issue series follows the exploits of Robin of Locksley in the Holy Land, as part of the Third Crusade. The book is well worth your time.
Finally, we have – believe it or not – “The Book of Genesis” (Tome Press, $2.25). Actually, this book is simply composed of very short passages of Scripture – but each one is accompanied by a reproduction of the beautiful illustrations of master artist Gustave Dore. Even if you aren’t a Christian, this book comes recommended.
These books show the incredible diversity of product in comics today. All are available in comic book specialty stores.
Published by the Swedish government, tells you all about your rights with regards to healthcare, childcare, workplace, retirement, disability, immigration, welfare, police, aid to students, family law, etc. Like a 'how-to' book for citizens.
This photograph was published in the Illustrated Chronicle on the 1st of July 1915.
During the Great War the Illustrated Chronicle published photographs of soldiers and sailors from Newcastle and the North East of England, which had been in the news. The photographs were sent in by relatives and give us a glimpse into the past.
The physical collection held by Newcastle Libraries comprises bound volumes of the newspaper from 1910 to 1925. We are keen to find out more about the people in the photographs. If you recognise anyone in the images please comment below.

My 'Three Amigos' image has been used to make this promo poster for a study day at The Royal Cornwall Hospital in October. This is the first time I have had anything published - Im really pleased to see the final results.
The Postcard
A postally unused carte postale that was published by Loury. The card has a divided back.
Many of the carvings in this and other medieval churches seem to feature the slaughter of either a wild predatory animal, an aggressive mythical creature, or a human being, often with a sword.
Autun
Autun is a subprefecture of the Saône-et-Loire département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of central-eastern France.
It was founded during the Principate era of the early Roman Empire by Emperor Augustus as Augustodunum to give a Roman capital to the Gallic people. In Roman times the city may have been home to 30,000 to 100,000 people, according to different estimates. Nowadays, the commune has a population of about 15,000.
Barthélemy de Chasseneuz practised law in Autun, and in 1508 he made his reputation as a criminal lawyer by his eloquent defence of a group of rats who were put on trial for destroying the barley crop of the province.
Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of Burgundy under Philip the Good, came from Autun, where several examples of his artistic patronage can be seen. The Rolin Madonna, by Jan van Eyck, in the Louvre, shows what was probably at least intended as a view of Autun in the background.
In 1837, a commercial mining of oil shale deposit near Autun marked the beginning of the modern oil shale industry.
In 1852, the uranium mineral autunite was first discovered near Autun, and named after the town.
Autun is the main setting for James Salter's 1967 novel A Sport and a Pastime.
The European Triathlon Championships were held in the town in 2006.
The Fifth Stage of the 2007 Tour de France ended in the town, with the entrance to Autun being a twisting and winding route down from a nearby mountain.
Sights of Autun
The city boasts two ancient Roman gates (Porte Saint-André and Porte d'Arroux) and other ruins dating to the time of Augustus.
One of the most impressive remains is that of the ancient theatre, which was one of the largest in the western part of the empire with a 17,000 seat capacity.
To the northwest of the city is the so-called Temple of Janus, only two walls (faces) of which remain. To the southeast is the mysterious Pierre de Couhard, a rock pyramid of uncertain function which may date to Roman times.
Saint Lazare Cathedral
Autun Cathedral, also known as Saint Lazare Cathedral, dates from the early twelfth century, and is a major example of Romanesque architecture. It was formerly the chapel of the Dukes of Burgundy. The cathedral was originally built as a pilgrimage church for the veneration of the relic Saint Lazarus, mentioned in the Gospels, and considered the first bishop of Marseille, and who, always according to tradition, arrived in Provence with Mary Magdalen.
Autun Cathedral is famous for its architectural sculpture, particularly the tympanum of The Last Judgment above the west portal, surviving fragments from the lost portal of the north transept, and the capitals in the nave and choir.
All of these are traditionally considered the work of Gislebertus, whose name is on the west tympanum. It is uncertain whether Gislebertus is the name of the sculptor or of a patron. If Gislebertus is in fact the artist, he is one of very few medieval artists whose name is known.

Il primo che vi sveliamo è un dj e produttore di fama internazionale, con oltre 8 milioni di album venduti in tutto il mondo e vincitore di 2 Grammy Awards: David Guetta! Per la prima volta in Italia con la sua band, eseguirà live durante la Finale il singolo Dangerous, il brano certificato platino e contenuto in Listen, il suo primo album di canzoni che vede la partecipazione di artisti del calibro di Emili Sande a John Legend, SIA, Nicki Minaj, The Script, Magic!, Ryan Tedder di One Republic.
I secondi ospiti internazionali sono la “New band of the day” come li definisce il Guardian: "Ogni loro canzone si annuncia con un fiorire e molto slancio, e c'è una leggera spolverata di ritmi caraibici, sapori tropicali e salotto-jazz." Loro sono i Saint Motel, che dal 2009 a oggi sono riusciti a suonare in tutti gli Stati Uniti aprendo i concerti degli Arctic Monkeys e degli Imagine Dragons. Durante la Finale di #XF8 canteranno il loro singolo My Type, che, dopo avere conquistato l'Inghilterra è ora ai vertici delle classifiche radio e di iTunes anche in Italia.
Il diciannovenne siciliano Lorenzo Fragola batte Madh nella finalissima del talent show in onda su Sky che registra record di ascolti e di interattività.
