Lifetime Dream # 43 of my list of 155: I will compose a book and have it published. I will review different media types such as coffee table books, fiction and photo books. I will have the book assigned an ISBN#, available to be purchased through any book store.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. In fact, my first story was written when I was 7. I still remember typing away at the type writer in the kitchen of my parent’s house. If only it didn’t border copy right laws of George Lucas movies, I probably would have had my parents send it off!
As it is, I am publishing my journal as an art book, hopefully sometime this spring. It will be a collection of all 3,000 pages of my first journal. Though I doubt many (if any) will sell, I’ll probably do the same thing for my second journal as well!
Pictured: I am in post-production of the final pages of my journal. Half the journey is writing the experiences and journeys on the page; the second part of finishing the page. I emboss the page numbers, erase the pencil lines, color in the pictures, scan the pages… it’s a process for sure. The paint brush I use to brush off the eraser shavings- they love to stick to hands. In the bottom left is a test page of the layout for production of the journal!
Taken for Our Daily Challenge .. Paper. I'm rather proud of this paper. This is Our Maine Street Magazine with one of my pictures. OMS contacted me asking for permission to use one of my photos to accompany a story by an Amish man telling the story of his family's move from NY state to Maine. They mirrored my photo and applied a fresco effect. A very high quality magazine.

(chscott.ecuad.ca/exhibitions/2014/aspen_magazine.html)
"Aspen Magazine was a multimedia magazine conceived of, edited and published by Phyllis Johnson in New York from 1965 to 1971. Aspen broke new ground in terms of its editorial concept, design approach and distribution strategy, which continues to be resonant and influential today.
The magazine featured a diverse and impressive array of contributors, from such key artists, musicians, authors and theorists as Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, Ian Hamilton Finlay, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Allan Kaprow, Ed Ruscha, J. G. Ballard, Bill Evans, Philip Glass, the Velvet Underground and Yoko Ono. Known as “the magazine in a box,” Aspen was made up of unbound contents that included texts, flexi-discs, reels of film and other objects. It struck a chord in the 1960s artists’ publishing culture—which included publications by Marcel Duchamp, Seth Siegelaub and members of the Fluxus movement—and embraced the idea of presenting travelling exhibitions in a book (or a box, for that matter) in order to provide alternative spaces and economies for art.
The exhibition features complete sets of all issues, with a focus on the combined edition of issues five and six from 1967, which was guest-edited by Brian O’Doherty and is referred to as The Conceptual Issue. Contributors to this issue include Marcel Duchamp, Samuel Beckett, John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Hans Richter, Sol LeWitt, Mel Bochner, Naum Gabo, László Moholy-Nagy, Dan Graham, George Kubler, Robert Morris, William S. Burroughs, Roland Barthes, Susan Sontag, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Morton Feldman, Michel Butor, Tony Smith and Merce Cunningham. Barthes first published his influential and important essay The Death of the Author in this issue.
The exhibition is on loan from the Whitechapel Gallery in London. Curator Nayia Yiakoumaki will be in attendance at the opening and will present a public talk.

Le Touquet
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, commonly referred to as Le Touquet, is a commune near Etaples, in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. It has a population of 5,355 but welcomes up to 250,000 people during the summer.
Le Touquet has a reputation as the most elegant holiday resort of northern France, the playground of rich Parisians (hence its full name), with many luxury hotels.
Since the mid-1990's, Le Touquet’s villas have become extremely fashionable amongst architecture lovers throughout Europe who have rediscovered the “folie” of seaside architecture of both the Roaring Twenties and the 1930's.
Town Trails
Today the town tourist office offers organised trails to see outstanding examples of 19th and 20th century domestic architecture, which are now preserved and protected.
Le Touquet's Early Years
In the 19th. century it was an area of wild sand dunes and forest - part of a hunting estate.
In 1902 Allen Stoneham and John Whitley bought the land through their company Le Touquet Syndicate Ltd., and were instrumental in developing the town into a golf and gambling resort.
It became known as “Paris by the Sea”, and strict building regulations encouraged the most talented architects to create imaginative and innovative developments. The most famous local architect is Louis Quetelart.
The Great War
During most of World War I, Le Touquet was the home of the Duchess of Westminster's (No 1 British Red Cross Society) Hospital for wounded British troops.
The No. 2 Canadian Stationary Hospital had the distinction of being the first Canadian Unit to land on French soil. No. 2 Stationary opened at the Hotel du Golf at Le Touquet on November 27, 1914.
All the 142 British Commonwealth war graves in Le Touquet's Communal Cemetery are from the hospitals. In the same cemetery a wooden obelisk was erected by the commune's lifeboatmen in honour of the British.
H. G. Wells
In 1909, H. G. Wells and Amber Reeves fled to Le Touquet in an abortive elopement. The two returned to Britain after a number of weeks, though Amber later gave birth to Wells's daughter, Anna-Jane Blanco White, after the relationship ended.
Noël Coward
In the 1920's, Noël Coward and the “smart set” from England spent weekends here, and commissioned more outstanding villa designs echoing traditional and ultra-modern domestic styles.
P. G. Wodehouse
P. G. Wodehouse lived in Le Touquet from 1934 to 1939.

The Pool
The site in the photograph was first developed as a 950 square metres (10,200 sq ft) swimming pool in 1937 and included an art deco diving tower.
At the time it had the highest diving board, and was the largest open air swimming pool, in Europe.
When it was opened it was simply known as "The Pool", becoming branded as Tropicana in 1983.
Closure of the Pool
The reinforced concrete diving tower was demolished in 1982. As part of the re-branding, features such as slides and a wave machine were introduced. The Tropicana had enormous fruits as a feature and adopted the tag line, "It's fun and fruity. It's wet and wild". It remained a popular attraction for many years until it eventually closed in 2000.
In 2003, North Somerset Council granted planning permission for a new pool to be developed by Mace Estates. However in 2004 Mace withdrew.
In 2005, Henry Boot PLC was chosen as the developer, but the recession of 2008 onwards caused them to pull out.
In early 2011, developer Richard Nightingale withdrew following a dispute with the council over his plans for the site.
In August 2011, the council announced it was giving developers one last chance to rebuild the old complex which by then had been shut for 11 years. But it was announced in November 2011 that a working group had made a recommendation to the council to demolish the Tropicana.
In August 2012, it was announced that the council had been given approval to demolish the pool and for the land to be cleared and returned to beach with a new sea wall.
However in February 2013, the council granted planning permission to a consortium of local businesses, Trop Ltd, who intended to build a new swimming pool complex on the site. As the land owner, however, the council has not yet (2018) given Trop Ltd. permission to build on the site.
The Bay Cafe
During 2015, as part of the works to make the building safe (and clean the façade) The Bay Cafe opened in the front section of the old building.
Dismaland
In August 2015 it was announced that Dismaland, an art installation, would be curated at the Tropicana by the artist Banksy. The 'Sinister twist on Disneyland' opened during the weekend of the 21st. August 2015 and ran until the 27th. September 2015, attracting 150,000 visitors from all over the world and generating an estimated £20m in extra revenue for the town.

UPDATE: After reading the recently published article about the new freshwater crab genus Cantopotamon, the crabs I found are certainly Cantopotamon zhuhaiense, described from the exact locality where I found them. Here is the link to this article:
zoolstud.sinica.edu.tw/Journals/56/56-41.pdf
The crabs were found in fast to slow-flowing hill streams on altitudes between 50 and 300 meters above sea level. They hide under stones and were occasionally observed leaving the water and climbing rock. At no site C. zhuhaiense was seen thriving sympatrically with the other Potamid I saw, Nanhaipotamon guangdongense, althuogh in the original description, they were observed living in the same habitat as Nanhaipotamon zhuhaiense and N. guangdongense.
Nevertheless, N. guangdongense was present in very small to small, more slow-flowing streams with sandy, muddy, or clay bottom, whereas C. zhuhaiense was found in broader, fast-flowing streams on gravel or sandy bottom.
Zhuhai, Guangdong
Fromer Text:
The freshwater crab genus Candidiopotamon is to date only known from Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands. The species described from Guangdong province by Dai, 1999 is now considered a synonym of C. rathbunae from Taiwan (See Shih & Ng, 2011).
Nevertheless, I found a few specimens resembeling no other Potamids from Guangdong province that I am aware of, but bear similarity to C. rathbunae. For no better name, the specimes are labeled C. cf. guangdongense. It is possible that there is a population of C. rathbunae or a new unknown species in Guangdong. Perhaps, the crabs I found belong to yet another species described by a single or few specimens from unknown localities in Guangdong, as Yarepotamon guangdongense.
The only dorsal image of Y. guangdongense I was able to find is in black and white and really small, and as I did not take an image of the male Gonopod or Maxilliped 3, there is no way to finally determine the status of the photographed specimen (link to the article here: lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg/app/uploads/2017/06/45rbz237-264.pdf).

Miss Phyllis Dare
Phyllis Dare (15th. August 1890 – 27th. April 1975) was an English singer and actress, famous for her performances in Edwardian musical comedy and other musical theatre in the first half of the 20th century.
The Early Years
Born Phyllis Constance Haddie Dones in Chelsea, London, Dare first performed on stage at the age of nine, in the Christmas pantomime 'Babes in the Wood' (1899).
Later that year, she appeared as Little Christina in 'Ib and Little Christina'. She soon played Mab in the Seymour Hicks musical 'Bluebell in Fairyland', and at the age of 15, she took over the starring role of Angela in 'The Catch of the Season'.
In 1909, Dare created the role of Eileen Cavanagh in the hit musical 'The Arcadians', where she met the producer George Edwardes. This started a long association between the two, who collaborated on productions including 'The Girl in the Train', 'Peggy' and 'The Quaker Girl'.
In 1912, she starred in 'The Sunshine Girl'. In 1913 she joined the cast of 'The Dancing Mistress' as Nancy Joyce at the Adelphi Theatre, and continued to star in successful productions throughout the 1920's, including in the role of Mariana in 'The Lady of the Rose' (1922).
The Later Years
During her later career, she turned to straight plays, some of which included 'Aren't We All' in 1929, 'Words and Music' in 1932, and 'The Fugitives' in 1936.
Phyllis appeared occasionally in films, starring in 'The Argentine Tango and Other Dances' in 1913, 'Dr. Wake's Patient' in 1916, 'Crime on the Hill' in 1933 and 'Debt of Honour' in 1936.
In the 1940's she appeared in a tour of 'Full House', and was later cast in 'Other People's Houses'.
In 1949, Phyllis Dare opened as Marta the mistress in Ivor Novello's musical, 'King's Rhapsody'. The show ran for two years, and was Dare's last theatrical endeavour. She retired to Brighton in 1951, and died at the age of 84.

Bagattelle d’Inverno, l’ultima grande sfida #snellobb04
"If in doubt, bake a cake"
Irene Prandi

The Flintstones; The Lords of Misrule
By Michael Vance
Yabadabadoo!
“The Flintstones” are back in new adventures that ring true to the Hana-Barbera animated series. It is not without reason that the original animated stories were a hit with both children and adults in primetime television.
Nor was it a fluke that until it was recently surpassed by “The Simpsons” animated series, Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty starred in the longest, first-run cartoon in television history.
Unless you’ve been living in the Stone Age … no, wait. Especially if you’ve been living in the Stone Age, you know the premise of the show. Fred Flintstone and cast poke fun at the modern stupidities of society by exaggeration and slapstick.
All of the animated story’s trademarks are included: mountains of food, everything made of stone, prehistoric monsters as the motors driving everything mechanical, and Fred and Barney as dopes saved by the wit and patience of their wives.
Yabadabadoo!
In this issue, Fred inherits a chain of bronto-burger stands and eats it into bankruptcy. He also forgets his anniversary and pays until his ears ring. AndFred and Barney uncover a mechanic’s scam that destroys those incredible stone cars so that he can repair them. The idea in each story is fun!
The art in this title perfectly matches the artistic style of the animated series. Internally consistent, visually appealing, and literate, it is wonderful to find characters who have not changed beyond recognition do to a string of artists who care nothing about continuity.
That disease is far too common in most superhero titles.
Undeniably, this is light entertainment. It is also recommended for young readers, or readers young at heart.
“The Flintstones #21/$1.50, 22 pages, Archie Comics/art and story: Kirschenbaum, Diaz studios, White, Leon, Lockmen/available wherever comics are sold.
MINIVIEW: “The Lords of Misrule” [Dark Horse]. A well done, slow descent into madness and horror with an English accent. As the fantasy world of “Wyrdfane” weeps into reality, will Mr. Goodfellow be sucked into his brother’s insanity? Not for children.

Paul (B& K Photos) has published an excellent CD of Gainsborough in the 1947 floods which I would heartily reccomend to anyone, but I don't think it features this shot of the old Newsums building ankle-deep in water during a flooded period.
I am tempted to say this is 1947,but I am not 100% sure on that, and have a feeling it might be more recent than that.

Info about Rosl-The Royal Over-Seas League ,Patron HM The Queen Vice Patron HRH Princess Alexandra Brief history of the Royal Over-Seas League
The Royal Over-Seas League is a unique institution. It is the practical embodiment of an idea conceived by a young man John Evelyn Wrench who saw what was then the British Empire not merely as a political and economic structure but as a 'far flung brotherhood of individual men and women of diverse creeds and races living under
differing conditions in different latitudes'. He sought to encourage friendship and understanding between them.
Founded in 1910 as the Over-Seas Club, it was granted a Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1922. To mark its Golden Jubilee in 1960, Her Majesty the Queen granted the title 'Royal'.

During the Great War the Illustrated Chronicle published photographs of soldiers and sailors from Newcastle and the North East of England, which had been in the news. The photographs were sent in by relatives and give us a glimpse into the past.
The physical collection held by Newcastle Libraries comprises bound volumes of the newspaper from 1910 to 1925. We are keen to find out more about the people in the photographs. If you recognise anyone in the images please comment below.
