On our way to the locaton where we were going to take pictures we had to stop to deflate the tires of the jeep to make the ride on the rather uneven gravel more comfortable. I jumped out of the jeep and grabbed my little G10 and did some point and shoot. I was rather unimpressed with the action on the mountain hardly any smoke and no fire visable it almost looked as if it was dying out. I turn around and as I do so my daughter yells "Mom look something is happening up there" I turn around and there it is this huge pilar of steam bursting up from the mountain. Things happen pretty quickly when nature is at work. The picture on the left was taken at 16:59 and the one on right 17:00 The steam came from a huge explotion in the lavastream coming from the volcano and according to eye witesses on location it formed an Pseudocrater up there.

Vincent Willem van Gogh
30 March 1853 – 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. In just over a decade he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. They include landscapes, still lifes, portraits and self-portraits, and are characterised by bold colours and dramatic, impulsive and expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. His suicide at 37 followed years of mental illness and poverty.
Born into an upper-middle-class family, Van Gogh drew as a child and was serious, quiet and thoughtful. As a young man he worked as an art dealer, often travelling, but became depressed after he was transferred to London. He turned to religion, and spent time as a Protestant missionary in southern Belgium. He drifted in ill health and solitude before taking up painting in 1881, having moved back home with his parents. His younger brother Theo supported him financially, and the two kept up a long correspondence by letter. His early works, mostly still lifes and depictions of peasant labourers, contain few signs of the vivid colour that distinguished his later work. In 1886, he moved to Paris, where he met members of the avant-garde, including Émile Bernard and Paul Gauguin, who were reacting against the Impressionist sensibility. As his work developed he created a new approach to still lifes and local landscapes. His paintings grew brighter in colour as he developed a style that became fully realised during his stay in Arles in the south of France in 1888. During this period he broadened his subject matter to include series of olive trees, wheat fields and sunflowers.

Geometridae (Geometer moth larva)
Size: 21 mm
The rear "feet" of a geometer moth larva ("inchworm") sitting on the catkin of a birch. They are not actual feet since they are not attached to the true legs (which are in the anterior part of the caterpillar) but they are quite capable nevertheless.

My lightpainter's pseudo-OCD was bad tonight. I could literally spend all night stood in a dark and derelict building waving lights and still never get it absolutely right. So I settled for this and be damned!
Lightpainting shot in one photographic exposure with no Photoshop or compositing.
Another of the more abstract shots from the film body. The highlights of this image are red because of the intense filtered light of the sun through the smoke of last season's terrible fires. This shutter speed and angle give one of my favorite textures of water.

Finally I've managed to test my Canon 400D with self-made IR modification! The result is a bit banal, yet promising ;-) After all, this is only a test shot.
