the new tighter TSA security protocols and finding their way to airport lost and found areas at airports across the country; must not be from one of those six countries… i6s+7864 - Happy Mostly Monochromatic Mondays!
by Josh Kottler with continually changing lighting patterns and sounds; from the the very fun 2016 Portland Winter Light Festival at OMSI, Portland, OR. I like how the pattern of the foreground brickwork mimics this part of the light performance extending it into the space. NB43349
While jack hammer mounted on gray crane arm removes the deck, a debris catcher hung from the orange crane arm catches the falling concrete; additionally, there are also two barges on the river below catching any smaller debris that make it past the crane mounted catcher above. Next the girders are cut and removed. NB44694

Two of the four jacks - the other two are near the right/east end of this section of bridge truss (see first comment below) - that will be used this week to lower this section of bridge truss to a barge that will be located below it. Under the plastic tarps are the large multi-stranded cables that will support the truss as it gets lowered. Here you can also see the extra bracing that has been added to the truss and bridge piers to stabilize both during the deconstruction of the bridge. See and read more about the process in the DJC article "Photos: Old Sellwood Bridge span to be removed article" and in the Sellwood Bridge Field Work Notice - May 27, 2016 at Sellwood Bridge .org. i6s+5454

Part of a (developing) series of photographic motion studies of the carnival amusement thrill ride called the Zipper. This one created by combining 3 iPhone OverCam App multiple exposures (see tags for OverCam App settings used and processing hints). I like how OverCam and ScanCamera allow you to capture long exposure effects day or night that are different from those taken using long exposures with a camera. Funtastic carnival ride at the Cinco de Mayo, Portland, OR i6s+5172,82,83 - Happy Sliders Sunday!
This week the last of the old Sellwood Bridge was taken down and placed on a barge (see notes) for recycling. Most of the bents that supported it while it was used as a detour bridge have been taken down too, and removal of the remaining bents and the pilings that supported them should be completed sometime in September. See notes and August 26th Field Work Notice for more about the work recently completed and yet to be done. i6s+6751

This pick-up truck managed to make it all the way up the pedestrian/bike lane before getting trapped here where it widens out onto the sidewalk of the new bridge; read more about it here. The large hole to the left of the truck is the remaining section of the east approach that is to be completed by sometime in October. i6s+4418

by Josh Kottler. As the night progressed the sensor in my camera became overloaded adding an eerie light to everything almost obscuring this beautiful installation at the 2nd Annual Portland Winter Light Festival Feb 1-4, 2017 at OMSI, Portland, OR Best when viewed in the LightBox. NB53082,84,90
This section of the Eastside Greenway Trail by the Hampton Opera Center acted as a wonderful south entrance to the 2016 Portland Winter Light Festival from the nearby TriMet station and cruise ship dock. Many visitors who attended carried lights of their own, and there was a nice colored light display in the top of the Hampton Opera Center tower as well. NB43703,04,06,11,12,13
