I was amazed at how it was near impossible to take photos of protesters without including porta-potties in the background.
In these photos, taken in Johannesburg in 2012, SAMWU had been demonstrating against tolling of the countries roads and the use of labour broking. The march had been termed the mother of all protest actions. The one day march had been successful and resulted in the Government temporarily halting the introduction of road tolling and significant in-roads in discussions aimed at bringing an end to labour broking.

After seeing numerous instances of police acting poorly in other cities (somtimes in person), I give the CPD a lot of credit for the way they handle large crowd/protest events.
