About 100 protesters gathered on Lake Street in Minneapolis to protest United States military actions and the use of drone strikes.

Greater Manchester Police has been dealing with large scale protests, as pro-Palestinian and Israeli demonstrators took to the streets of Manchester city centre.
The demonstrations have taken place in response to events taking place in Gaza and understandably, the situation in Gaza has provoked strong emotions among communities here in Greater Manchester. This has resulted in almost daily protests, with hundreds of people taking part in the demonstrations.
North Manchester Division’s Chief Superintendent Nick Adderley has been a regular face in the city centre during the protests. He said: “The protests have caused disruption to a number of shops and businesses along Market Street and King Street but finding the balance between facilitating lawful protest and the rights of business to trade, is never going to be easy.
"Through the hard work of officers, staff and our partners, we have managed to provide reassurance, as well as a firm commitment, that we will endeavour to strike the right balance, ensuring that the law and the human rights act are observed.
“The greatest challenge faced by officers, when dealing with such protests, is the expectations of the public placed upon them to ‘sort the problem’. This protest is no different and I have seen first-hand the pressure placed upon officers to move to one side or the other.
“The professionalism I have personally observed from our staff is of the highest calibre and is the envy of the world. GMP can proudly boast of its successful record in dealing with protests yet I never see any hint of complacency.
“When required officers have been firm and direct, yet polite, courteous and extremely patient. They have engaged with protestors from both sides and helped them to understand the role of the police. I need to specifically mention our Protest Liaison Officers who are right in the thick of the protestors, brokering deals and working with them to set clear expectations of the do’s and don’ts. It takes a certain kind of officer to undertake this role and I have observed the most incredible levels of tenacity, professionalism and integrity from each of them, each and every time I have been at the protest sites.
“As with most protests, the vast majority of people who we deal with are decent, hardworking and simply want to exercise their democratic right to protest, but as we can appreciate the current conflict in the Middle East is highly sensitive and emotive, leading to the odd few stepping over the line and committing criminal offences and hate incidents. Our officers have dealt with these incidents proportionately and fairly, maintaining the legitimacy and integrity of the policing operation.
“What is always pleasing to see is the attempts our officers make to build an appropriate rapport and relationship with the protestors and to adopt an approach of co-operation rather than using ‘coercive power’. It is these observations that make me extremely proud to be GMP officer and to have the privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with our officers, even in the pouring rain.”

About 200 people gathered outside Minneapolis City Hall to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline. The planned pipeline will transport 470,000 barrels of oil per day 1,172 miles from North Dakota to Illinois. Protesters called for a stop of the pipeline construction which will pass upstream from the Standing Rock Sioux Nation. Along with the threat to their water supply, the tribe claims the pipeline will destroy burial sites and sacred places.

This image is part of a continuing series following the unrest and events in Minneapolis following the May 25th, 2020 murder of George Floyd.
Qalandia checkpoint divides Ramallah from Jerusalem. It is a point of regular humiliation for Palestinians.
On Friday 13th May, a protest started gathering at the Checkpoint and the Israeli Army tried to disperse it with tear gas.
People didn't leave, though, and skirmishes carried on throughout the day.
At least five Palestinians were seriously injured.
The protest is directed against excessive lockdown measures. One fears the transition to a totalitarian society. Forced apps, implanted chips, 5G control technology.

A couple hundred activists and supporters converged in front of the White House Sunday, January 11, 2015, the 13th anniversary of the opening of the prison camp at Guantanamo, in a protest sponsored by; Amnesty International USA, the Blue Lantern Project, CCR, CloseGitmo.net, CodePink, Council on American-Islamic relations, NRCAT National Religious Coalition Against Torture, Witness Against Torture, World Can’t Wait and others.
Many activists were dressed in the orange jumpsuits and black hoods that the men at Guantanamo wear at Guantanamo and while being tortured. Some held signs saying: FORCED FEEDING, INDEFINITE DETENTION, while others carried a bouquet of carnations.
One group read the first letter from Shaker Aamer from Guantanamo in 2003. Shaker remains in prison even though he’s been cleared for release in 2007.
The PEACE POETS from the Bronx recited one of their poems with those dressed in orange jumpsuits and black hoods stood behind and in front; “We Want Justice!” “We are Powerful” “We are Together” then recited a poem called, “There is a Man under That Hood.”
Jeremy Varon from Witness Against Torture said, “The dream of closing Guantanamo may indeed become a reality. That hope is not based on some executive order or Presidential promise, or speech or vague confession that America drifted from it’s values.” “There’s nothing in the legal twisted machinery of Guantanamo that is responsible for these releases. No judge can compel the military to let men go, Congress has passed to no law saying, Set them Free, rather, every release has been in essence a political act meaning that at last the President is doing what we have long implored. Asserting his political will and exercising true leadership do what is right no matter how long over due.”
Debra Sweet emphasized that the opening of Guantanamo was not a mistake on the part of the Bush regime, but rather meant to send a message to the rest of the world - that while already illegitimately occupying Afghanistan, preparing to invade Iraq, and staging torture centers around the world, they could take anyone they wanted to, lock them up, and never release them.
After all the speakers were done the activists left the White House and marched over to the the Justice Dept. where 3 of the activists in orange jumpsuits and black hoods handed out the carnations to the crowd for them to offer it to the Dept. of Justice. Then the crowd made its way over to DC court central cell block where prisoners were below the ground of where the next set of speakers were standing. One of the Peace Poets led the crowd in a call & response, “We have the courage to see through the lies, ‘cause our hearts listen when the people cry.”
Ray McGovern, Andy Worthington (the British investigative journalist) and Debra Sweet of World Can’t Wait were all participants.
Washington DC, August 15, 2015. Around five hundred social justice activists and supporters gathered in Lafayette Park and on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House to participate in the Blackout DC 2015 rally and march against police and vigilante killings of people of color. This groundbreaking event was planned by three young black women. Great job, ladies. Because of you the world changed a little bit for the better today. I'm happy to report that the crowd was much younger (and more stylishly attired...) than we're used to seeing at DC protests. After some brief remarks by the organizers there was a meandering and boisterous march through the streets resulting in some brief traffic stoppages. There was no conflict between the marchers and the police and no arrests I'm aware of.

A few hundred people rallied at the Minnesota capitol building to support the unions that have been protesting in Madison, Wisconsin. The protesters are against the attempt to reduced the collective bargaining rights of public unions by Wisconsin Governor Walker and Republicans in other states.

About 1000 protesters gathered to denounce Donald Trump and demand Minneapolis defend Muslims, accept immigrants, welcome refugees, and support workers. They called on the Minneapolis government to expand sanctuary city protections for immigrants and pass a $15 per hour minimum wage for all workers.

Today a large number of protesters took to the streets of Dublin in response to the unfortunate death of an Indian woman who was refused an abortion. The 31-year-old woman died following a miscarriage at University Hospital Galway.
The story behind my photographs has been well reported by international media including CNN, the BBC World Service, Channel 4 News, Sky News, the Sydney Morning Herald, France 24 and New Delhi Television (to mention but a few).
Zeenews New Delhi: "The death of an Indian dentist in Ireland, whose life could have been saved through an abortion on Thursday sparked outrage in India with political parties terming it as a violation of human rights while her parents demanded an international probe"
Halappanavar's parents demanded an "international probe" and said Irish law on abortion should be changed. "Only following rules, what about humanity? They killed my daughter to save a foetus. Only a mother knows the pain," said Halappanavar's mother, while her father urged the government to act accordingly.
There is another protest scheduled for Wednesday in Dublin.
