SOOC... I am perhaps tickled with this all out of proportion to the uniqueness of the shot but I usually don't fart around with the "manual" setting... my MOD has been based on the philosophy that "even if a complete idiot takes 1000 pictures... he'll get a few good ones" and that has worked for me. LOL. The manual settings thing is a result of my desire to get the hang of HDR imaging. Hey, it might help me grow, huh? I gotta back off till the Christmas break, though. I'm really WAY too busy this quarter. The photo obsession thing has run away with me before...

The (golden spiral) may be used as a symbol, either of fortitude and constancy in adversity, or of the human body, which after all its changes, even after death, will be restored to its exact and perfect self.
Engraved upon Jacob’s tombstone is a spiral alongside the words, "Eadem Mutata Resurgo," meaning "Though changed, I shall rise again." And so it is that within the Golden Ratio Principle, the golden harmonies rise yet again.

This is a car that looks completely out of proportion, with its small wheels and short, narrow bodywork; though it does have a ‘normal’ height and hipline.
As early as 1939 the American radio manufacturer Powel Crosley Jr. attempted to make his dream come true by producing a small car for the general public. During the Second World War his cars became popular due to their low fuel consumption, but the trend was short-lived and the Crosley factory was sold in 1952.
The Crosley was offered in various models; the CD Four was available as a (two-door) sedan, a coupé, a station wagon and a business coupé. There was also a sports car – the Hotshot. According to reports it was Crosley who first used the term ‘Sports Utility’.
The film actor Humphrey Bogart and the architect Frank Lloyd Wright were famous Crosley owners.

All of the new Gold 45 Revolver and 45SURF logos and designs are inspired by the golden number phi and divine proportion! Just as my landscapes oft employ the golden rectangle and fibonacci spiral in composition, all the bikinis, shirts, and lingerie designs are made with the golden section and gold number Phi (1.618) in mind! The golden grids, rectangles, pentagons, and spirals make a far better system for compositions than does the rule of thirds! And too, the golden mean and divine proportion are found in every model--in her pretty face and in the divine proportions of the 45surf goddess's heavenly body! I'm working on a book on all this beautitful craziness in fine art landscapes and models called The Golden Hero's Odyssey, which also ties it to my physics theory Dynamic Dimenions theory (dx4/dt=ic). :)

Dr. Elliot McGucken's Golden Ratio Principle: The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio. the golden number, rectangle, and spiral!

Although all the rooms of the Rone - Empire installation exhibition are amazing for many different reasons, there are two major standouts. The Dining Room is one. As a well proportioned and elegant space, it runs over half of the original Burnham Beeches floor plan. It features two long tables covered in a Miss Havisham like feast of a trove of found dinner table objects from silverware and glassware to empty oyster shells and vases of grasses and feathers.
The Dining Room installation I personally found especially confronting. In 1982, I visited Burnham Beeches when it was a smart and select hotel and had Devonshire tea in the dining room at a table alongside the full length windows overlooking the terraces below. I was shocked to see a room I remember appointed with thick carpets and tables covered in gleaming silver and white napery, strewn with dust and leaves, and adorned with Miss Havisham's feast of found dining objects.
Melbourne based street artist Rone (Tyrone Wright) used the decaying glory of the 1933 Harry Norris designed Streamline Moderne mansion, Burnham Beeches in the Dandenong Ranges' Sherbrooke, between March the 6th and April 22nd to create an immersive hybrid art space for his latest installation exhibition; "Empire".
"Empire" combined a mixture of many different elements including art, sound, light, scent, found objects, botanic designs, objects from nature and music especially composed for the project by Nick Batterham. The Burnham Beeches project re-imagines and re-interprets the spirit of one of Victoria’s landmark mansions, seldom seen by the public and not accessed since the mid 1980s. According to Rone - Empire website; "viewers are invited to consider what remains - the unseen cultural, social, artistic and spiritual heritage which produces intangible meaning."
Rone was invited by the current owner of Burnham Beeches, restaurateur Shannon Bennett, to exhibit "Empire" during a six week interim period before renovations commence to convert the heritage listed mansion into a select six star hotel.
Rone initially imagined the mansion to be in a state of dereliction, but found instead that it was a stripped back blank canvas for him to create his own version of how he thought it should look. Therefore, almost all the decay is in fact of Rone's creation from grasses in the Games Room which 'grow' next to a rotting billiards table, to the damp patches, water staining and smoke damage on the ceilings. Nests of leaves fill some spaces, whilst tree branches and in one case an entire avenue of boughs sprout from walls and ceilings. Especially designed Art Deco wallpaper created in Rone's studio has been installed on the walls before being distressed and damaged. The rooms have been adorned with furnishings and objects that might once have graced the twelve original rooms of Burnham Beeches: bulbulous club sofas, half round Art Deco tables, tarnished silverware and their canteen, mirrored smoke stands of chrome and Bakelite, glass lamps, English dinner services, a glass drinks trolley, photos of people long forgotten in time, walnut veneer dressing tables reflecting the installation sometimes in triplicate, old wire beadsteads, luggage, shelves of books, an Underwood typewriter, a John Broadwood and Sons of London grand piano and even a Kriesler radiogramme. All these objects were then covered in a thick sheet or light sprinkling of 'dust' made of many different things including coffee grinds and talcum powder, creating a sensation for the senses. Burnham Beeches resonated with a ghostly sense of its former grandeur, with a whiff of bittersweet romance.
Throughout the twelve rooms, magnificent and beautifully haunting floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall portraits of Australian actress Lily Sullivan, star of the Foxtel re-make of Picnic at Hanging Rock, appear. Larger than life, each portrait is created in different colours, helping to create seasonal shifts as you move from room to room.
Although all the rooms are amazing for many different reasons, there are two major standouts. The Dining Room is one. The Study is the other. It features walls of books covered with a portrait of Lily Sullivan, and the entire room is partially submerged in a lake of black water with the occasional red oak leaf floating across its glassy surface.
I feel very honoured and privileged to be amongst the far too few people fortunate enough to have seen Rone's "Empire", as like the seasons, it is ephemeral, and it will already have been dismantled. Rone's idea is that, like his street art, things he creates don't last forever, and that made the project exciting. I hope that my photographs do justice to, and adequately share as much as is possible of this amazing installation with you.

Medium-sized, athletically proportioned eagle, with streaked whitish underparts contrasting with dark wings and tail. Juveniles are rufous below, and lack the adult’s broad dark band at the tip of the tail. Found in forests or mountains, sometimes in more open habitats in winter; usually in remote areas. Builds nests on cliffs and ledges, and in caves. Distinctive in flight: note bulging secondaries and narrowness of wing where it meets the body. Usually seen soaring over distant ridgelines, when the shallow “fingers” to its wings are obvious in contrast to the deep fingers of other eagles.
in proportion to their body length, barnacles have the longest penis in the animal kingdom.

The Renault Avantime was a glance in to the future, with a Full Glass Roof, the largest opening glass sunroof ever fitted to a production car at the time (2001-2003). However a good proportion of the general public really hate this car - it’s sales figures were dismal after all - but I have conjured up a theory as to why people hate it so very much: THEY WERE AFRAID OF IT.
They were afraid of the fact that this car is a look into the future, and people hate thinking about what the future might hold.
The Avantime was almost like an uncomfortable invasion of their personal space - It was quirky, unconventional, radical, unprecedented and visually confronting.
When buying cars, I think people are afraid of change. Thats why Toyota's Camry has been producing the exact same sedan shape for over 33 years. Critics labelled Renault insane at the release of the Avantime, but I get the feeling that they may have just been intimidated by the fact that this vehicle was a vehicle for change. It was still a regular car in every sense of the word- but it challenged design conventions to no end- and that pissed everybody off.
HISTORY
The French automaker Renault is one of the past masters at creating market segments that others did not know existed. One only has to think of the Espace, which for so long was the standard bearer for minivans in Europe. Then along came the trendsetting Scenic, a pint-sized minivan that was more appropriate to European roads and which, if anything, was even more of a success. Add into the mix such models as the Twingo and Kangoo, and Renault's innovative modus operandi is plain to see. However, with the Avantime, it is pushing the boundaries even further.
There is no doubt about it, whichever way you look at the French company's new model, it is distinctive. Some might call it outrageous, others may think it ugly, but whatever it is it will not be mistaken for any other model on the road. Ever since it appeared as a concept car at the Geneva auto show in 1999, the Renault's coupé-minivan Avantime has been acknowledged as a design that pushes the boundaries.
Based on the floor plan of the Espace, it is a simply huge two-door four-seater, but one in which the rear seat passengers are almost as well served as those in the front. As Renault is aiming this vehicle at the empty nesters who have grown to love the space, size and command driving position of their minivan, but who no longer need the rear seats on a regular basis, a great deal of emphasis has been put on driver and passenger comfort.
An intriguing part of this car, though, is the complicated double-hinge arrangement that enables the doors to open without taking up too much swept volume. This is an important consideration in Europe where parking spaces are tight and coupes with large doors are always at a disadvantage as they need a bigger space between vehicles to be opened. The Avantime goes some way to address this while also allowing far easier entrance and egress for the rear seat passengers. The penalty, though, are doors that weigh around 55 kg each.
The Avantime is actually a co-production between Renault and Matra Automobile, which know each other well since they have been working together on the Espace for the last 18 years. That original contract called for Matra Automobile to make all the investment while Renault guaranteed a minimum sale. With the Avantime, though, both investment and profits are being split 50/50. The contract with Renault is several inches thick says Philippe Guédon, chief executive of Matra Automobile, but it is best left on a bookshelf saying: "If you have to open it, that's a bad sign."
Approximately $97.5 - million has been spent on engineering, $68.5 - million for tooling used by suppliers, and $27 - million for tooling, making a total of $193 - million, a reasonable sum for a new model. Investment was kept low to keep the car profitable at prices between $32,500-$35,000. Should demand ever push production to around 30,000 units a year, says Renault product planning manager Philippe Cohen, the profits would be significant.
The new model is being built at Matra's Romorantin plant in France, and shares the line with the Espace with which it shares almost 50% of the components. In fact, it was hoped that the percentage shared would be even greater, but the Avantime's many unique design features prevented that.
"We wanted to have 60% parts in common, but we needed to change more than we first thought," says Guédon. "The chassis needed to be stiffened because there is no B-pillar, and the double-hinged doors were more complicated than engineers had foreseen."
In an initial stage the different steel parts of the platform are welded together before being hot-dip galvanised in a zinc bath. The aluminium sections - the cantrails and cross members - which are painted and clear-coated in a second production unit, are welded in the Romorantin plant. This upper structure is then attached to the rest of the body. To optimise resistance to shocks, the cantrail/chassis is carried out by both bolting and adhesive bonding. The end result is a structure whose torsional stiffness is 60% greater than the Espace.
The use of aluminium for the two upper pillars has also resulted in a weight saving of 10 kg in the upper part of the vehicle, contributing to the lowering of the center of gravity. The SMC (sheet molding compound) composite skin, hot molded and made, like that of the Espace, of resin, fiberglass and calcium carbonate, is subjected to powerful ultraviolet rays, reinforcing the adherence of the basecoat. It is then assembled to the metallic structure using a two-pack polyurethane cement. Both malleable and compressible, easy to cut and drip-free, it is heated by electromagnetic induction to bring its polymerization time to 90 minutes. Another advantage of this technology is that it prevents any geometric dispersion of the structure by simply acting on the thickness of the bead of cement.
The structure is then moved to the painting stage, followed by its placement on the actual assembly line, where the vehicle is fitted with its powertrain, suspension systems and interior and exterior trim and equipment.
Initially, the Avantime only has one engine option - a 24-valve 3.0-liter V6 - but it will be joined by a new 4-cylinder, 16-valve 2.0-liter turbo unit and, next year, the 2.2-liter dCi diesel engine currently found in the Laguna II.
Renault and Matra plan to build 9,000 units this year, reaching a rhythm of 100 per day at full production with breakeven occurring at around 18,000-20,000. Should the volume increase, it will not cause too many problems, as the next-generation Espace is going to be produced at a Renault plant.
With around 350 units a day being produced, this model has now become far more of a mainstream rather than a niche vehicle, and with the structural changes planned for the forthcoming model, such as steel stampings rather composite body panels, the Romorantin plant simply cannot accommodate it. Anyway, says Guédon, Matra's role is more that of an innovator than a large-volume vehicle builder.
Sales start in September in Europe, and will extend next year to Singapore, South Africa, Japan and elsewhere. Whether the Avantime will ever have the sales appeal of the Espace is difficult to assess. Its distinctive looks will not appeal to everyone, but on the other hand, 20,000 units is hardly a large number of vehicles to sell...
The Avantime, designed by Renault’s design genius Patrick Le Quement, was killed within two years of its birth after just 8,500 were built.
INVESTMENT
The Renault Avantime certainly isn't for everyone, however there's been no other modern car that has said "bollocks to convention" quite like the Avantime. They're also very exclusive due to the low production figure. I did get a hold of a really well looked-after example and baby it, because mark my words, this car will become a classic. I expect it'll be revered in years to come as the Citroen SM of it's generation.

Exalt your work with the Divine Proportion!!!
I decided to look at figure drawing and encouraged the students to make little jointed figures to aid their drawings of movement, I think it worked quite well.
Durst Automatica 1956-63. Possibly the best looking camera ever made. Form, proportion, materials, finishes, fonts...it absolutely embodies the era. It's Hepburn and Peck on a Vespa. It's Bertone, Tano Festa and Valentino all in one. A Latin counterpoint to Leica and Dieter Rams. It doesn't need to be interesting under the skin but it is, being the world's first 35mm aperture priority camera and doing it pneumatically. The 4th and final camera produced by enlarger-maker Durst SA of Bolzano up near the Italian Alps. They had a thing for pneumatic escapements - the Durst 66 was another example and both of mine work well today, 60 years on.
Surely the 60s are more valuable than 66s? I'd rather see more 60s out than 66s, but the signs at Toton are evident. On 17/03/19, 60058, 60045 and 66143 sit on Toton TMD.
Taken on a drain as if Donnatello was falling to show size and proportion. I used black and white effect and colour splashed him back to life to contrast the bright life and dark problems.

The Fibonacci Numbers are closely related to the golden ratio, and thus they also play a prominent role in exalted natural and artistic compositions!
I'm working on a far deeper book titled The Golden Ratio Number for Photographers. :)
The famous mathematician Jacob Bernoulli wrote:
The (golden spiral) may be used as a symbol, either of fortitude and constancy in adversity, or of the human body, which after all its changes, even after death, will be restored to its exact and perfect self.
Engraved upon Jacob’s tombstone is a spiral alongside the words, "Eadem Mutata Resurgo," meaning "Though changed, I shall rise again." And so it is that within the Golden Ratio Principle, the golden harmonies rise yet again.
The golden ratio is oft known as the divine cut, the golden cut, the divine proportion, the golden number, and PHI for the name of the architect of the Parthenon Phidias. It has exalted classical art on down through the millennia and it can exalt your art too!
Ask me anything about the golden ratio! :) I will do my best to answer!!

I'm a fan of classic lego mini figures, plain yellow heads with the simple smile, and the city worker in blue overall is my favorite. This worker must be at least 1000% in size. Interestingly, the box that contains this reads "Mini Figure".

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries during and after the Second World War. The Spitfire was built in many variants, using several wing configurations, and was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was also the only British fighter to be in continuous production throughout the war. The Spitfire continues to be a popular aircraft, with approximately 55 Spitfires being airworthy, while many more are static exhibits in aviation museums all over the world.
The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works (which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928). In accordance with its role as an interceptor, Mitchell designed the Spitfire's distinctive elliptical wing to have the thinnest possible cross-section; this thin wing enabled the Spitfire to have a higher top speed than several contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane. Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death from cancer in 1937, whereupon his colleague Joseph Smith took over as chief designer, overseeing the development of the Spitfire through its multitude of variants.
During the Battle of Britain (July–October 1940), the Spitfire was perceived by the public to be the RAF fighter, though the more numerous Hawker Hurricane shouldered a greater proportion of the burden against the Luftwaffe. However, because of its higher performance, Spitfire units had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than those flying Hurricanes.
After the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire superseded the Hurricane to become the backbone of RAF Fighter Command, and saw action in the European, Mediterranean, Pacific and the South-East Asian theatres. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire served in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance, fighter-bomber and trainer, and it continued to serve in these roles until the 1950s. The Seafire was a carrier-based adaptation of the Spitfire which served in the Fleet Air Arm from 1942 through to the mid-1950s. Although the original airframe was designed to be powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine producing 1,030 hp (768 kW), it was strong enough and adaptable enough to use increasingly powerful Merlin and, in later marks, Rolls-Royce Griffon engines producing up to 2,340 hp (1,745 kW); as a consequence of this the Spitfire's performance and capabilities improved, sometimes dramatically, over the course of its life.
Mk V (Types 331, 349 & 352)
Spitfire LF.Mk VB, BL479, flown by Group Captain M.W.S Robinson, station commander of RAF Northolt, August 1943. This Spitfire has the wide bladed Rotol propeller, the internal armoured windscreen and "clipped" wings.
Late in 1940, the RAF predicted that the advent of the pressurised Junkers Ju 86P bomber series over Britain would be the start of a new sustained high altitude bombing offensive by the Luftwaffe, in which case development was put in hand for a pressurised version of the Spitfire, with a new version of the Merlin (the Mk VI). It would take some time to develop the new fighter and an emergency stop-gap measure was needed as soon as possible: this was the Mk V.
The basic Mk V was a Mk I with the Merlin 45 series engine. This engine delivered 1,440 hp (1,074 kW) at take-off, and incorporated a new single-speed single-stage supercharger design. Improvements to the carburettor also allowed the Spitfire to use zero gravity manoeuvres without any problems with fuel flow. Several Mk I and Mk II airframes were converted to Mk V standard by Supermarine and started equipping fighter units from early 1941. The majority of the Mk Vs were built at Castle Bromwich.
The VB became the main production version of the Mark Vs. Along with the new Merlin 45 series the B wing was fitted as standard. As production progressed changes were incorporated, some of which became standard on all later Spitfires. Production started with several Mk IBs which were converted to Mk VBs by Supermarine. Starting in early 1941 the round section exhaust stacks were changed to a "fishtail" type, marginally increasing exhaust thrust. Some late production VBs and VCs were fitted with six shorter exhaust stacks per side, similar to those of Spitfire IXs and Seafire IIIs; this was originally stipulated as applying specifically to VB(trop)s. After some initial problems with the original Mk I size oil coolers, a bigger oil cooler was fitted under the port wing; this could be recognised by a deeper housing with a circular entry. From mid-1941 alloy covered ailerons became a universal fitting.
Spitfire VC(trop), fitted with Vokes filters and "disc" wheels, of 417 Squadron RCAF in Tunisia in 1943.
A constant flow of modifications were made as production progressed. A "blown" cockpit hood, manufactured by Malcolm, was introduced in an effort to further increase the pilot's head-room and visibility. Many mid to late production VBs - and all VCs - used the modified, improved windscreen assembly with the integral bullet resistant centre panel and flat side screens introduced with the Mk III. Because the rear frame of this windscreen was taller than that of the earlier model the cockpit hoods were not interchangeable and could be distinguished by the wider rear framing on the hood used with the late-style windscreen.
Different propeller types were fitted, according to where the Spitfire V was built: Supermarine and Westland manufactured VBs and VCs used 10 ft 9 in (3.28 m) diameter, 3 bladed de Havilland constant speed units, with narrow metal blades, while Castle Bromwich manufactured VBs and VCs were fitted with a wide bladed Rotol constant speed propeller of either 10 ft 9 in (3.28 m) diameter, with metal blades, or (on late production Spitfires) 10 ft 3 in (3.12 m) diameter, with broader, "Jablo" (compressed wood) blades. The Rotol spinners were longer and more pointed than the de Havilland leading to a 3.5 in (8.9 cm) increase in overall length. The Rotol propellers allowed a modest speed increase over 20,000 ft (6,100 m) and an increase in the service ceiling. A large number of Spitfire VBs were fitted with "gun heater intensifier" systems on the exhaust stacks. These piped additional heated air into the gun bays. There was a short tubular intake on the front of the first stack and a narrow pipe led into the engine cowling from the rear exhaust.
The VB series were the first Spitfires able to carry a range of specially designed "slipper" drop tanks which were fitted underneath the wing centre-section. Small hooks were fitted, just forward of the inboard flaps: when the tank was released these hooks caught the trailing edge of the tank, swinging it clear of the fuselage.
With the advent of the superb Focke Wulf Fw 190 in August 1941 the Spitfire was for the first time truly outclassed, hastening the development of the "interim" Mk IX. In an effort to counter this threat, especially at lower altitudes, the VB was the first production version of the Spitfire to use "clipped" wingtips as an option, reducing the wingspan to 32 ft 2 in (9.8 m).The clipped wings increased the roll rate and airspeed at lower altitudes. Several different versions of the Merlin 45/50 family were used, including the Merlin 45M which had a smaller "cropped" supercharger impeller and boost increased to +18 lb. This engine produced 1,585 hp (1,182 kW) at 2,750 ft (838 m), increasing the L.F VB's maximum rate of climb to 4720 ft/min (21.6 m/s) at 2,000 ft (610 m).
VB Trop of 40 Squadron SAAF fitted with the "streamlined" version of the Aboukir filter, a broad-bladed, 10 ft 3 in (3.12 m) diameter Rotol propeller, and clipped wings.
The Mk VB(trop) (or type 352) could be identified by the large Vokes air filter fitted under the nose; the reduced speed of the air to the supercharger had a detrimental effect on the performance of the aircraft, reducing the top speed by 8 mph (13 km/h) and the climb rate by 600 ft/min (3.04 m/s), but the decreased performance was considered acceptable. This variant was also fitted with a larger oil tank and desert survival gear behind the pilot's seat. A new "desert" camouflage scheme was applied. Many VB(trop)s were modified by 103 MU (Maintenance Unit-RAF depots in which factory fresh aircraft were brought up to service standards before being delivered to squadrons) at Aboukir, Egypt by replacing the Vokes filter with locally manufactured "Aboukir" filters, which were lighter and more streamlined. Two designs of these filters can be identified in photos: one had a bulky, squared off filter housing while the other was more streamlined. These aircraft were usually fitted with the wide blade Rotol propeller and clipped wings.
Triumph Spitfire Mk I Roadster
The Triumph Spitfire is a small English two-seat sports car, introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962.[3] The vehicle was based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The platform for the car was largely based upon the chassis, engine, and running gear of the Triumph Herald saloon, and was manufactured at the Standard-Triumph works at Canley, in Coventry. As was typical for cars of this era, the bodywork was fitted onto a separate structural chassis, but for the Spitfire, which was designed as an open top or convertible sports car from the outset, the ladder chassis was reinforced for additional rigidity by the use of structural components within the bodywork. The Spitfire was provided with a manual hood for weather protection, the design improving to a folding hood for later models. Factory-manufactured hard-tops were also available.
The Triumph Spitfire was originally devised by Standard-Triumph to compete in the small sports car market that had opened up with the introduction of the Austin-Healey Sprite. The Sprite had used the basic drive train of the Austin A30/35 in a light body to make up a budget sports car; Triumph's idea was to use the mechanicals from their small saloon, the Herald, to underpin the new project. Triumph had one advantage, however; where the Austin A30 range was of unitary construction, the Herald featured a separate chassis. It was Triumph's intention to cut that chassis down and clothe it in a sports body, saving the costs of developing a completely new chassis / body unit.
Italian designer Michelotti—who had already penned the Herald—was commissioned for the new project, and came up with a traditional, swooping body. Wind-up windows were provided (in contrast to the Sprite/Midget, which still featured sidescreens, also called curtains, at that time), as well as a single-piece front end which tilted forwards to offer unrivaled access to the engine. At the dawn of the 1960s, however, Standard-Triumph was in deep financial trouble, and unable to put the new car into production; it was not until the company was taken over by the Leyland organization funds became available and the car was launched. Leyland officials, taking stock of their new acquisition, found Michelotti's prototype hiding under a dust sheet in a corner of the factory and rapidly approved it for production.

The production car changed little from the prototype, although the full-width rear bumper was dropped in favour of two part-bumpers curving round each corner, with overriders. Mechanicals were basically stock Herald. The engine was an 1,147 cc (1.1 l) 4-cylinder with a pushrod OHV cylinder head and 2 valves per cylinder, mildly tuned for the Spitfire, fed by twin SU carburettors. Also from the Herald came the rack and pinion steering and coil-and-wishbone front suspension up front, and at the rear a single transverse-leaf swing axle arrangement. This ended up being the most controversial part of the car: it was known to "tuck in" and cause violent over steer if pushed too hard, even in the staid Herald. In the sportier Spitfire (and later the 6-cylinder Triumph GT6 and Triumph Vitesse) it led to severe criticism. The body was bolted to a much-modified Herald chassis, the outer rails and the rear outriggers having been removed; little of the original Herald chassis design was left, and the Spitfire used structural outer sills to stiffen its body tub.
The Spitfire was an inexpensive small sports car and as such had very basic trim, including rubber mats and a large plastic steering wheel. These early cars were referred to both as "Triumph Spitfire Mark I" and "Spitfire 4", not to be confused with the later Spitfire Mark IV.
In UK specification the in-line four produced 63 bhp (47 kW) at 5750 rpm, and 67 lb·ft (91 N·m)of torque at 3500 rpm. This gave a top speed of 92 mph (148 km/h), and would achieve 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 17.3 seconds. Average fuel consumption was 31mpg.
For 1964 an overdrive option was added to the 4-speed manual gearbox to give more relaxed cruising. Wire wheels and a hard top were also available.

I would recommend paper-backed foil for this module as normal Kami does not work well...unless you cheat by adding something sticky like double-sided tapes. An 8-piece version using the Wind Rose or Compass Rose modules is possible.
