USCSS Prometheus from the movie "Prometheus"

Say what you will about the movie, but the exploring vessel USCSS Prometheus is a really cool movie ship. I love its look and its four huge engines. Its got all the right equipment for exploring from its various antenna arrays and sensor dishes to it's ability to hall large cargo and ground vehicles. When the going gets tough don't worry you can escape in your shuttle that is pimped out with everything you need to survive on your own.

Has a lift that lowers on the bottom and a removable shuttle craft on top rear. More photos coming to show this off.

About 85% done. See how much stuff changes over time...This is probably missing parts of the old you may have liked, fear not I have them saved for other projects.

I wanted to deviate from the "space sausage" so I made alterations. Kind an homage to Studio Nue rather than Homeworld-esque . I just need to fill in greebly bits in between the panels.

It is unfortunate that this bears the same name as the upcoming movie, but my daughter has been doing Greek mythology and I had some macross stickers.

The rock, the vulture and the chain,

All that the proud can feel of pain,

The agony they do not show,

The suffocating sense of woe.

“We each have a special something we can get only at a special time of our life. like a small flame. A careful, fortunate few cherish that flame, nurture it, hold it as a torch to light their way. But once that flame goes out, it’s gone forever.”

"The Serenity was absolutely not a reference," says Ben Procter, who did most of the design work on the exterior of the Prometheus — in spite of some fans' insistence that the movie's ship looks a bit like the famous vessel from Firefly. But there were hints of the Nostromo in there, and maybe a bit of a shout-out to artist Chris Foss, who worked on the original Alien.

The early work on the Prometheus was done by Steve Burg, who left the project early on. Says Procter:

Steve's early illustrations showcased the major features which were of interest to Ridley and Arthur early on — the four main thrusters which could pivot radically for different modes of flight, a descending airlock which allowed vehicular access to the planet surface, and an overall imposing "oil platform" look when the craft is standing on the ground with all of its work lighting on. There's no question the ship has Nostromo DNA in it, but in continuing Steve's work I also kept in mind Ridley and Arthur's desire for more aeronautical elegance and performance. It's a flagship prospecting vessel, not a "tow truck", and Ridley said it could hover and dive "like a Blackhawk". The final result is meant to look muscular but beautiful, with a speedy look but also enough exposed hardware to feel tough and functional. I explored many color schemes and the one Ridley picked is actually a bit Fossian with its bold black and yellow stripes.

Had a nice family day out visiting Madam Tussaud's, The London Eye and the Sealife Centre.

We used the underground to get about as it was quick and easy and being me with camera in hand I grabbed a few shots between venues.

Can't remember where this was taken as I was grabbing shots on the move.

Done some extreme processing for a bit of fun.

Pandora, (Greek: “All-Gifts”) in Greek mythology, the first woman. According to Hesiod's Theogony, after Prometheus, a fire god and divine trickster, had stolen fire from heaven and bestowed it upon mortals, Zeus, the king of the gods, determined to counteract this blessing.

Prometheus Bound and the Oceanids

Warm up wall in Bochum, I struggled a bit and not too happy with outcome, but it was great to meet Dater, HIFI and WERT from Italy!

Ancient Classical sources have it that Prometheus, a Titan, and the son of Iapetus, granted to mankind the secret of fire (among other things), much against the wishes of Zeus.

As punishment, Zeus sentenced Prometheus to be chained to a rock in the Caucasus Mountains.

There, a great eagle (the symbol of Zeus) feasted daily upon Prometheus' liver. Being immortal, his liver and body regenerated every night only to be redevoured each day by the eagle. This went on for 30,000 years until the indomitable Herakles arrives on the scene, liberating Prometheus by killing the eagle.

A couple of builder's notes:

1) Why white?

a) The Titans were often associated with this colour. They were said, according to some sources to be beings of "white clay" and thay they covered themselves with white gypsum dust during their rituals. In fact the name of the element Titanium is derived from the Greek "Titanos", meaning Titans, or the "First Sons of the Earth".

b) I have a lot of white LEGO.

2) Sources include Nicolas-Sébastien Adam's incredible sculpture of this scene, completed in 1757. Also Laconian black-figure amphoriskos, approx. C6th B.C.
