The human rights topic specifically I wanted to focus on events involving President Dueterte of the Philippines. He is being investigated for human rights violations. Originally favored in the elections for his iron fisted statements on how he will deplete crime, has now led to mass murders of not only suspected criminals, but also political enemies and innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. One of the most shocking stories coming from a death squad member that was feeling guilty about his actions said that once they disposed of the bodies by feeding them to crocodiles. This is the main reason why I am using the lacoste logo which depicts a crocodile and is a very popular brand in the Philippines.
Today was an awesome day. I got to hung out with some awesome friends and we started a sewing project!
See, I'm a huge video game nerd, always have been. I never used to admit it because back in the day it was uncool to be a nerd, and yes, I cosplayed.
Since its been ten years since I last made a pleated skirt my friend and I decided that we should do practice skirts before making the actual skirts for our cosplay. If things work out, I'll be doing a cosplay as Yukiko from Persona 4 for PAX East. :)
This is the practice skirt, well, partly done at least, with Yukiko's fan.
July Theme Architecture
Kamloops Courthouse, plans developed in 1905. Built in the Provincial Gothic style using local brick and imported granite and slate; it also features a slate roof, rolled copper roof ridge, balustrades, parapeted gables, turret, cupola, oriel window, cornerstone quoins and accents, and heraldic arms.
For this project I used the following mediums: Photography, Illustrator, Drawing, and Photoshop. To start off I created the flowers by hand using color pencils and uploaded them to Photoshop and made modifications to them. Along with that I uploaded a colorless sketch of leaves that I made. The chameleon was done within Illustrator. The leaves were found around Milwaukee and also were some pictures that my roommate took at a garden show which I asked for permission to use. The hand within the photo is my hand. To start off I believe a chameleon is a signifier of color it adapts to its environment based on mood, temperature, and or surroundings. I wanted to make the chameleon blend in to its environment which is green while making it different thus why it was done in Illustrator to signify that it’s not supposed to be part of the environment. Next I wanted to make some color pop out within the environment that looked different so I colored in flowers and then modified it a bit within Photoshop to give it a little more character and also stay with the theme of collaboration. For the bottom I added my hand along with a blank sketch to represent construction of the piece along with curiosity of what is to come. Along with that I added drop shadows to most of the things presented to give more of stance that it is popping out and actually there.
When it came to the 4 themes I incorporated collaboration by the use of different mediums (digital and physical) with follows they were drawn then modified (erased/morphed/color changed) within Photoshop. Curiosity would be incorporated with the idea that there is an animal within in the scene that sort of blends in the environment. Community with the sake that its incorporating different mediums the hand can be a signifier of community. Contrast by the use of drop shadow and stokes to distinguish each medium and object. Discovery by the environment that is portrayed within the Illustration, there is a lot to discover within a jungle.
Talked into working the dreaded night shift, everything had played out pretty much the way I'd expected it to. If it could go wrong. It went wrong. An hour after closing, the place was emptied out, but I was still stuck there dealing with a broken down car in my third bay.
Anybody wanna guess who's car it was? Cough, cough, Calamity.

This is for a project I had for my lighting class where I had to shoot something transparent. It's not exactly transparent, but it is shiny, and that's good enough for me.
Shot with one Profoto light through a softbox on the left. Light is reflected by the pane of glass below and a white board held at an angle above and to the right. There is also a white board underneath the glass.

So here are just two images that I’ve taken of that shot. so check them out here abwatson.com/project-1001-sez/
Thanks again Sarah.
I've wanted to start a 366 day project for a while now , so I've decided to do it as a new year resolution. I've started a little late , but I'll just finish a few days later than everyone else.
I'm going to try and post a picture every day for a year , I hope I can do this.
I got these cute little bear candles as a present for Christmas and I didn't think i'd ever use them , but I decided to get some pictures of them.

This was harder to get than I thought it would be. Finding a bridge over the interstate that had a sidewalk was difficult. Going out there after dark with cars whizzing over the bridge behind me wasn't fun either. Finding a place to park and then access all of it carrying my tripod, camera, and remote trigger....just awkward. What we will do for a picture! I finally figured it out and caught lots of motion on the interstate tonight. f/20, 13 second exposure, on a tripod, through a fence on the bridge. At least when I was done I got to go shopping!

This is High Street, part of Watling Street.
Watling Street is the name given to an ancient trackway in England and Wales that was first used by the Celts mainly between the modern cities of Canterbury and St Albans. The Romans later paved the route, part of which is identified on the Antonine Itinerary as Iter III: "Item a Londinio ad portum Dubris" - from London to the port of Dover. The name derives from the Anglo-Saxon Wæcelinga Stræt, which has come to be understood as the A2 road from Dover to London, and then the A5 road from London to Wroxeter. Originally the word "street" simply meant a paved road (Latin: "via strata"), and did not have the modern association with populated areas. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watling_Street
the Roman road from London to Kent coast. Countless travellers have passed this way since Roman times, because it remained the main highway to the Continent until the 20th Century. The High Street formed part of the A2 trunk route up to 1980.
Rochester was an important centre even before the Romans settled here soon after 43A.D. Their encampment developed into a walled town called Durobrivae, which means 'The stronghold by the bridge.' Long stretches of the remaining medieval city wall follow the line of these earliest Roman defences. One part visible from the High Street has survived to its full height, complete with battlements, because it once formed part of the 19th century building - now demolished - which housed Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School.

P-p-pick up a penguin. Maybe only people from the UK who are over a certain age will get that reference.
This is my partner, Rik, in my office with our resident penguin. (No, I have no idea why we have an inflatable penguin in our office. He's been with us since Christmas).
Rik is here because we are getting a lift home with a colleague whose wife is coming into town to pick him up. We've had torrential rain causing floods and landslides so the trains are cancelled and the main roads out of town have only just reopened - at least far enough for us to get home.

"The 1996 Italian food film Big Night, peaked a decade too early. Audiences today crave food truck wars, watching a man suffer through eating the world’s hottest-ghost-pepper-5lb-cheeseburger… in 20 minutes with no water, the next Top Chef, etc. My son can watch a Pixar movie about a rat cooking haute cuisine. So imagine the Stanley Tucci and Tony Shaloub film if it were released 14 years later in today’s food crazed world? Remember that final scene in Big Night? It is almost 5 minutes long, uncut, nearly wordless. Probably one of the best endings to a movie in hollywood. The two brothers have accepted the defeat of their faltering Italian restaurant in 1950′s New York and the next morning Stanley Tucci’s character cooks a breakfast frittata for his brother, whom he had just had a falling out with the previous night. Imagine instead of a frittata, it was a carbonara cooked in that scene – it would have been perfect.
There are hundreds of different variations to cooking carbonara..." read more here at: Vesper Bistro
And with the photo, I introduce a new project I am starting: The Allegiance Project.
What does the american flag mean to you?
Not to long ago I took a trip to Europe visiting Normandy, Oxford, Paris and London. I learned a tremendous amount about there history and culture during my stay. Though I like Europe - I found myself appreciating the United States of America more and more each day while I was in this foreign country. The amount of freedom we have chills my bones and even more so, the amount of loved ones that have fought for it.
With this project - I want to not only show the pride I have for my country, but the pride others have for it as well. I will be asking the individuals that will be photographed what the american flag means to them symbolicly which will be placed upon each posting. As this project furthers, the idea will expand and develope. But for now, here is the beginning.
On the 8th of August over a hundred people joined up to hitchhike to Paris from different places around Europe and further: Russia, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Spain, Portugal, even Japan!!

At 3pm each workday a colleague strikes a cowbell with a drumstick. This is the signal for us to gather to do the quiz in the Dominion Post newspaper.
