Remember the days when the garbage truck had a driver, and six dudes hanging off different points? I do. I remember I thought they were so cool-- I wanted to be a garbage man, so I could hang off the sides of a moving truck. My dad talked me out of it.

It used to take seven dudes, and they had to be relatively engaged. Today, it takes one guy, and he can be on his cell phone (as pictured).

so: I've still got to finish the waistline and zipper tape seam allowances off with some bias tape, decide on buttons v. snaps (and two or three) for the side closure of the waistband, and hem the thing, but then? I'm all done. I think it's gonna be super cute.

Merecumbe is coming along better than I expected. I don't know where to get EXTRA long mohair so that i can reroot her and be done with it. I went to Etsy, and I asked a seller if I could order some, but she asked me if I could wait until September...I guess im going to have to do that. Anyone know of a place that might have quality extra long mohair available? Thanks

The family picture was taken in Dec. 07. I was probably at my heaviest there. My head looked like a basketball it was so round! Slowly but surely it's getting thinner though!!!!!

President Obama made a low key announcement Monday morning saying he would seek reelection and his 2012 campaign would be an effort “to protect the progress we’ve made — and make more!”

The Obama Democratic spin machine was already defining his tenure as a time of major progress, taking on issues such as health care, improving the economy and winding down the war in Iraq. As in 2008 everything is high tech with e-mails, video propaganda uploads, and plenty of calling and fundraising by diehard activists and unionists to anyone that cares to hear the siren song. The campaign to reelect Obama may cost more than $1 billion according to experts.

Working on the page facing the tags I made a while back, I created another small piece using strips of paper and fabric, this time using a paper that reminds me of tree bark and a blue one that has dark lines running through it, making me think of woodgrain. On the page itself I very lightly made some sweeping marks, again thinking about wood grain, but also the flow of words - my inspiration photo features handmade paper, a dip ink pen, handmade papers tied up with string, calligraphy and a wax seal so in my mind I'm mapping it out in a way - wood, paper (folded and tied letters, book page structures), mark-making (age rings on the wood plus the woodgrain itself), calligraphy, writing, and privacy (seals and string). I think maybe I will have to actually map it out on paper or I may get muddled...

The piece on the right was inspired by the wrapped tags, with metal hardware emulating from the reinforcements around the holes at the top of the tags, and an fme silk/cotton/lace piece inspired by the wrapped bands on the paper tags.

This page needs something else but I'm not sure what - I've been doing my calligraphy warm-up strokes so maybe some of those?

Progress on my latest costume.. almost done! This time without the jacket.
