Very in-progress painting but something I've been working on. Cannot decide if I want to continue or hate it. A re-do of a self-p I did a few years ago based on a Jenny Saville portrait (http://psychskull.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/js1.jpg)
This photo was made on June 2, 18 days after I broke my leg. I took this very early in the morning, while the swelling was very nearly non-existant (it swells during the day and goes down at night). You can still see bruising at the base of my toes, on the right side of my foot, and on the front of my leg. Yuck.
This is an old barn off of Parrish Avenue in Cedar Lake, Indiana that's in the process of being dismantled to make way for a new subdivision. It always saddens me to see old buildings torn down, especially barns. Think of all the history that happened there--the people who hauled the lumber to build it to the farm with horses back in the 1800s, the generations of farmers who maintained it over the years, and the family who said goodbye to it when it was sold to the company who will soon be removing it. Probably less than five years from now, no traces of it will remain and the people who live in the houses in the new subdivision will be clueless as to what was there not that long ago.

The second year of the $32 million Viking Rd interchange is proceeding pretty quickly. IA27 is being lowered 24 feet to pass under Viking Road. The northern half of the bridge over IA27 is shown here. PCI is building the bridge abutments. I'm not sure if a center pier is going to be built. what's amazing is the retaining walls are steel I-beams pounded by driver, with wood blocks between the beams. Then they horizontally bore tiebacks thru pre drilled holes in the beams into the earth wall. Lastly a reinforced concrete facing is poured with the reinforcing steel tied into the tiebacks and beams. I think this method is called Soldier Pile Wall. I was amazed when I talked to some engineers last Fall when they told me the wood portion of these walls was left in place permanently.

Another Progress spacecraft (If it weren't for the Russians, no one would be there) docked to the ISS, with an aurora behind it.
(I originally said it was a Soyuz but was in error (thanks Alexander!) - it's a Progress spacecraft - so I changed the caption.)
Pandora has had the whole house available to her for a week now. My goal? To have her gain confidence interacting with humans, dogs, and cats. I've asked Kevin to give her treats intermittently. Kevin's not having as much success as I am. . . yet. Yesterday, I sat in a recliner in the cat room. Pandora hopped up on my lap to get a few treats. This morning she greeted me as I left the bedroom, obviously interested in more treats. She loved all over Gumbo (what's it with all the ladies being attracted to Gumbo?), purring up a storm asking for treats. I gave her a treat, pet her, gave her a treat, pet her, gave her a treat, pet her. Finally I lured her onto my lap again. She laid down purring, and I scritched around the ears. Ahhhhhhhh. . . then, of course, Pandora received another treat. Yep, progress. We'll have a setback next week when I have to take her in for booster vaccinations, but the retirement home is patient. However long it takes me to get her comfortable, they really want her. (Although I admit I have secretly wondered about Diamond going to the retirement home. . .)

This is the "Here's the Dish" pattern from "Seams to Me" by Anna Maria Horner. It's too pretty of a pattern to let near water or dishes, so I'll make this a wall hanging instead.
Took a walk up to the old Pink Floyd villa (Villa Anamaria) on the outskirts of Pefkos to check on progress with the renovation work. There's definitely been some improvement going on but there's still a long way to go.
'Progress' ex Henty Progress and ex Deepdale H of Harkers (1965) seen moored at Frodsham on the river Weaver. She recently moved here from Liverpool docks after being withdrawn from the Henty bunkering fleet. She provided bunkering services around the Mersey until 2012 when Henty purchased a new build Dutch barge. Before that (as Deepdale H) she was regularly found plying the Manchester ship canal to Barton and the Weaver navigation to Winnington.
I'm allowing myself to free motion quilt with total freedom. It was scary to get started, like jumping off a cliff, but I'm liking the result, and it is fun! Wish I had the stitch regulator about now- but I love my machine even without it.
