On April 22, 14 girls and two coaches from Brazil who are a part of "Las Estrellas," a sports, leadership and English program, came to Knoxville, TN as part of the U.S. Department of State Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative. After the first day, they had already experienced University culture by participating in Dr. Ashleigh Huffman's Service-Learning class and eating in the cafeteria.
It seemed the years of aimless wandering and hard work had come to fruitition. This was to become a year of rest. Of bliss.

The Honors Program, Office of Student Affairs, and the Laboratory for Civic Engagement are coming together to organize the first-ever volunteer activity for our incoming first-year students. On Convocation Day, August 18, all new students (and faculty and staff) are asked to bring to campus a box of their favorite breakfast cereal to be donated to Philabundance. Breakfast cereal is one of the most needed and most highly-demanded items from the 500 agencies across the Delaware Valley that Philabundance serves.
The Community Service Kick-off is to allow our newest students to participate in a service activity their first day on campus, before classes even begin. We want students to know that Penn State Brandywine is committed to its land-grant mission of serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and around the globe. Let's show Philabundance that we have Penn State Pride in our volunteering activities now and throughout the year!

Second version of the PF powered train, controlled by an Mindstorms EV3.
In the previous version, it was not possible to access the charging plug at all. Making it impossible to recharge the battery.
In this version, this problem has been solved. The access to the charging plug is now under the easy-to-remove roof of the train.
In this photo you see the power cable connected.

For the second consecutive year, The Pointe residents have corresponded with several elementary classes as part of our Pen Pal Program. At the end of the school year, a group of residents visit the school and meet the children they have been sending letters to. The children were just as excited as the residents to finally meet. One class read stories to the residents and another gave a presentation on jaguars. The program is one of our most successful and popular among our residents and they are already looking forward to school starting in the fall. Not sure the kids feel the same about that though!
