Preparing today’s youth for tomorrow’s workforce is what the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Engineering Academy Program attempts to accomplish.
School District 89, which includes ten elementary schools in Maywood, Melrose Park and Broadview just completed an academy this month with 24 students in their group. The students learned about bridge construction by designing and constructing Truss Bridges using Balsa Wood. Teams built and tested their bridges for “bragging rights” for building the strongest bridge. Students who completed the academy program also received certificates.
This is by far one of the most requested community programs coordinated by IDOT’s Office of Diversity Recruitment and Outreach. The program is designed to provide realistic application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.) through instruction and hands on projects that encourage teamwork and problem solving.
IDOT engineers and others in the transportation engineering industry volunteer to instruct and mentor academy participants during the sessions. The program is offered to junior high and high school aged students and is fashioned with the needs of the educational institution in mind.

I wrote a script to generate random Structure Synth rules. Pretty much everything it generates looks like this, so I have more to do...
This was taking a long time to render, so I tried to use Helios to distribute it, but each of my computers was rendering blocks in slightly different hues, so I had to abandon that approach.
I have to keep reminding myself that I wanted the "Stuff On My Screen" to be a completely random dump on whatever was going on at the time, regardless of whether it was looking good at the time or not maybe I'll put some sort of automatic system in place when I get some time.

The Bush administration created the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) ten years ago to improve global efforts to interdict shipments of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their dual-use components. This voluntary arrangement has primarily relied on bilateral shipboarding agreements and exercises to help improve responses to suspect shipments. Beginning with 11 "core” states, PSI now has 102 member states. Despite this, there are still gaps in the system.
Recently, the Obama administration has declared its intention to turn PSI into a “durable international effort.” Please join our distinguished panel of speakers as we discuss how PSI has developed, and how it might move forward into the future.

6-52 Air Defense Artillery
SUWON AIR BASE — Female Soldiers in the 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery met in Suwon Gym for the unit’s female mentorship program.
The training began with education on sexual assault prevention and response, followed by light stretching and upper body exercising.
First Lt. James Eide, who led the mentorship session, conducted a class on Cross fit, combining several exercises. Before doing the cross fit, he taught them theory about how to do exercise efficiently and when is the good time for exercise. He also taught about nutrition, explaining ways to maintain and improve health by dividing nutrition into fat, protein, vitamin, and mineral categories. After the classroom instruction, a workout followed.
Private First Class Nancy Cumberledge found the training worthwhile, and especially liked its emphasis on life values and good health.
Th mentorship programs aims to help women of 6-52 navigate their careers and guide them in successfully combining full-time careers with satisfying personal and family lives.
