Team APG marked the grand opening of the Fusion Directorate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bldg. 4305. The Fusion Directorate is an Army pilot program, providing sexual harassment and assault victims with the medical, investigative, legal and support services they need all in one place. It is part of the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program.
In attendance were APG senior leadership and SHARP personnel.
Maj. Gen. Robert Edmonson II, APG senior commander and commanding general of the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command, gave opening remarks.
“This is a historic moment for Aberdeen Proving Ground and frankly for the entire United States Army,” he said. APG has proven time and time again how special it is. It has proven how it is forward thinking, forward leaning.”
According to Edmonson, the Fusion Directorate underscores APG’s commitment to stopping unacceptable behavior. The Fusion Directorate is not only aimed at response, but is really also looking at prevention through response and bringing capabilities together.
The guest speaker was Chief of SHARP Redesign Col. Erica Cameron, with the People First Task Force.
“This idea of victim-centered care is absolutely not new,” she said. “It is modeled after rape crisis centers and civilian best practices on how they assist victims and survivors.”
APG is one of just six Army installations to pilot this new SHARP Fusion Directorate, directly in alignment with the Army’s People First Task Force.
“Each have their unique challenges and different rates of incidents and many other different variables that help us learn in a collective sense what kinds of support a victim needs, what is appropriate to each kind of location.”
Cameron said personnel associated with this pilot program communicate once a month to exchange best practices.
“We are constantly learning from each other,” she said.
Edmonson, Cameron, CECOM Command Sgt. Maj. Kristie Brady and Installation SHARP Program Manager participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
