Our chair is based on a marine ecosystem. Its purpose is to inform people on the harm for coral reefs and oceanic environments. Our inspiration came from our Ecology unit in school and the move “the Pirates of the Caribbean and the fact that people became part of the sea environment. We like how the theme was open and had few restrictions that allowed us to take creative liberties. Our chair shows how an environment supports itself and uses all the other parts to grow and flourish. We like taking an inanimate object and making it organic. Our idea started as a tree and moved to the sea. Our goal was to use recycled and re-usable material since our chair is making an environmental statement.

Global Citizenship Program (GCP) 67 | Pathways to Global Citizenship: Roots and Routes

Tomorrow's leaders must think and act as global citizens in order to address the challenges facing humanity. Broadly defined, global citizens are people who are consciously prepared to live and work in the complex interdependent society of the 21st century and contribute to improving the common global welfare of our planet and its inhabitants. The program aims to engage participating students as global citizens, helping them develop the knowledge, skills, values, and commitment to:
Understand the nature of globalization, including its positive and negative impacts around the world, and realize how it is transforming human society;
Appreciate the diversity of humanity in all of its manifestations, from local to global, and interact with different groups of people to address common concerns;
Recognize the critical global challenges that are compromising humanity's future and see how their complexity and interconnections make solutions increasingly difficult; and
Collaborate with different sets of stakeholders, by thinking globally and acting locally, to resolve these critical challenges and build a more equitable and sustainable world.
The session format includes lectures and discussions with an international faculty as well as formal and informal work in small groups. Topics addressed in plenary lectures and discussions include globalization and global responsibility; the social, economic, and political aspects of migration; the historical legacy of the Holocaust, human rights, humanitarian intervention; sustainable development; and the implications of the United States' influence around the world.
Participants will consider how these issues relate to their current situations and future personal, educational, and professional plans. They will also have the opportunity to develop projects and activities related to the session topic that can be implemented at their colleges and universities, in their local communities, and beyond.

Como parte del programa de Colectividades y Afrodescendientes de la Secretaría de Cultura de la Presidencia de la Nación, a través de su Subsecretaría de Políticas Socioculturales, el viernes 17 de agosto a las 17, y el sábado 18 de agosto a las 14.30, se desarrolló en la Sala José Luis Borges de la Biblioteca Nacional, el Encuentro Nacional de danzas de matriz africana.
La actividad tiene como finalidad aportar al conocimiento de la diversidad cultural nacional difundiendo manifestaciones artísticas de matriz africana, particularmente las danzas. En este marco, se trabajará sobre una dinámica en la que cada grupo explicará los fundamentos de la danza, dictará un taller teórico-práctico y cerrará con una muestra, con el objetivo de fomentar el respeto, la sana convivencia, el intercambio de experiencias y el reconocimiento de cualidades y capacidades de los colectivos de afrodescendientes y afroargentinos.
El programa de Colectividades y Afrodescendientes de la Secretaría de Cultura de la Presidencia de la Nación promueve acciones tendientes a favorecer la investigación, producción y difusión de actividades y contenidos vinculados a la presencia de lo latinoamericano y africano en nuestra identidad.
U.S. Army Soldiers with the Wyoming Army National Guard graduated the Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP) during a patching ceremony held at the Joint Forces Readiness Center in Cheyenne, Wyo., Nov. 15, 2019. USG successfully hosted the first annual Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) Summer Bridge Program from June 16-19, 2014. ACES seeks to support students and create a seamless pathway from high school to college completion.
This year's theme was "Why Not You" and focused on career preparation and exploration. Students participated in activities that developed leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills essential for success in today's workforce.
Over 250 rising seniors attended the program. Coaching and support will continue for ACES scholars as they pursue their education with Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, and the Universities at Shady Grove.
Brighter Bites is a collaborative effort designed to improve access to healthy, affordable food and provide nutrition education. The University of Texas School of Public Health, KIPP Schools, the Houston Food Bank and Texas Children's Hospital have partnered to offer the 16-week program to third-grade children enrolled at KIPP Explore Academy and their parents. As you can see from the photos, those healthy kale smoothies are a hit!
