The salt solution is decanted off the rock chips which are then placed overnight in a freezer. There has to be room around the chips for expansion as the salt freezes. This is the critical part - the rapid freezing creates very small crystals in the pore spaces that gently blow the rock apart and break down the structure - hopefully without damaging the microfossils.
Experimenting with more extreme processing in Lightroom than I might normally be comfortable with. This was actually shot at ISO 1600, at sunset, in the shadow of a large hill.

Valencia is one of the very few cities where the view from the bottom is better than from the top, it is all in the details that are best appreciated up close. This photo and many I have seen in Flickr, just don't do justice, it is very beautiful!

The large mass being held is the crisps, or what is left of the fat, minus the tallow, and water.
