12.05.10 - Florida band Fake Problems braved the snow and cold tonight and played a show at the Beat Kitchen with fellow southerners, Ninja Gun.
I caught these guys at a couple dates on Warped Tour this summer and they were amazing. Tonight was no different. They opened up for The Gaslight Anthem on their most recent tour, so that definitely got them some new fans. Fairly packed show. I was impressed.
Also, attention Chicago photogs: if you haven't been to Beat Kitchen in a while, I think you'd be pleased to hear that their lighting has improved greatly. Stage right could use a little more "oomph," but I couldn't be happier otherwise.

Taken on August 8th 2014 at a photographer's day on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway between Wirksworth and Duffield in Derbyshire.
Cladding in low-friction ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has solved movement problems on package transport chutes at international express courier company DHL's sorting centers. DHL chose TIVAR DrySlide because packages often got stuck on it's original unlined metal chutes, especially when going around right angled corners. Alternative solutions the company tested, including PTFE, wore off quickly because of their poor abrasion resistance. DHL had been lubricating the chutes by spring them with silicon or graphite, but was looking for a more environment-friendly solution that would not contaminate the parcels, nor require ongoing maintenance, cleaning and downtime. DHL saves thousands of dollar each month in reduced manning needs from package jams, material costs, operation run time and reduced product damage.
Although TIVAR DrySlide is a plastic; it has electrostatic dissipation properties, so it works well in dusty environments. It has a high abrasion resistance, a high impact resistance and it also helps reduce noise. There are no we lubricants to mar packages and the material does not corrode or degrade it any way. TIVAR Dryslide's moisture absorption is virtually zero and the material is stabilized against UV radiation.
The problem is to get this straight I have had to add 8mm of packing... I am pushing the panel at the bottom of the picture against the pillar and you can see just how far in the top of the pillar is... I cannot in good faith pack this out. I need to be more drastic.
Earlier in the year my uncle came up with his P6 - I shot a couple of films and really enjoyed it. Now the films are developed we have a problem. All the frames have this black area at the bottom. We assume some sticky shutter problem :-(

While the cursor turns to a hand when you place them over the widget names, they cannot be dragged to the widget column. Also, there are default widgets in these columns, but they cannot be seen or edited. WTF??

Radtouristen haben oft gehörigen Respekt vor dem Verkehr in Indien. Dabei gehören Zweiräder dort wesentlich selbstverständlicher zum Alltag als bei uns! Ob Rikscha-Taxis, Verkaufsstände oder persönliches Transportmittel – Inder sind an Fahrräder im Straßenverkehr gewöhnt und auch unsere Abenteurer konnten problemlos auf Hauptstraßen oder Autobahnen radeln.
Ganz falsch sind die Vorurteile allerdings nicht. Auf unserem TX-400 fuhren Tine und Tommi vorbei an Dreck und Gestank, ausgetrockneten Flüssen und Tieren, die auf Müllhalden grasten. Trotz den Umständen, die den beiden im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes den Atem verschlagen haben, haben sie sich die Freude am Radfahren nicht nehmen lassen. Als fröhlich grüßende Fahrradtouristen sah Indien gleich viel freundlicher aus! Gutes Essen, eine fürsorgliche Mitbewohnerin im Hostel und ein aufregendes Stadtleben haben die beiden positiv überrascht.

Auf dem Highway reihte sich das TX-400 dann zwischen Ochsenkarren, Reisebussen, Affen und überladenen Lastenrädern ein und Tine und Tommi waren mittendrin im indischen Straßenverkehr!
Unser Expeditionsrad ist somit offiziell chaoserprobt und brachte die beiden sicher durch den Tumult Indiens nach Nepal. Von dort geht die Reise weiter Richtung Pokhara. Wir wünschen den beiden jede Menge schöne Erlebnisse und freuen uns auf den nächsten spannenden Bericht!

There’s a problem with the name, as you can imagine, there is clearly no hill here, or for twenty miles all round, it’s a bleak, unforgiving area, there is no clearly discernable village, just a lot of ribbon development along imaginatively named roads, like New Fen Drove, North Drove, all the pubs have long gone, just their skeletal signposts, devoid of images remain, as pointers to a previous generations entertainment. However the church is hanging grimly on, in a more attractive area it would be better attended, it has a very special feature lurking inside. The key is kept at the shop just over the road, but before going in it is worth a look round the exterior. In this area a tallish perpy tower looks quite out of keeping, almost as strange as the brutalist N porch from the 1930’s and still looking out of place. Equally out of place is the S porch, which looks as if it has escaped from Essex and is now in a quite precarious state. Inside you have to do a double take at the arcades, huge wooden piers support the roof, the BoE claims them as 15th C, though with a hint that the favoured son of Louth, Jimmy Fowler might have replaced some in his restoration of 1874. There is a Ward & Hughes East window that gets short shrift in the BoE along with a couple of other windows, an early 20th C screen and a mock perpy font, possibly from the 17th C.

I go through a 2lb container a month so I decided to go with the 4 lb container this time. I got the strawberry to try out with fruit seen but the fruit made it more gross than usual.

There is a feeder mounted on this stump. The cottontail watches as a group of Green Jays and grackles feed on sunflower seeds in it. After standing and watching for a bit, he jumped straight up about three feet on to the feeder.

Promover e ampliar ações para diminuir o impacto das Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis – IST como problema de saúde pública, é uma das iniciativas que têm sido fortalecidas em Contagem. Nesta quarta-feira (20/7), a Superintendência de Atenção Especializada e Subsecretaria de Assistência, da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde – SMS, promoveu capacitação sobre prevenção, diagnóstico, tratamento e monitoramento da sífilis.
O treinamento foi realizado na Faculdade UNA Contagem e reuniu cerca de 50 profissionais, entre enfermeiros, farmacêuticos, médicos, dentistas e outros. O objetivo é que os profissionais sejam multiplicadores da temática nos oito Distritos Sanitários da cidade, e assim, executem papel essencial no controle da infecção.
Segundo a Subsecretária de Atenção à Saúde, Rejane Balmant, as iniciativas que que estão intensificadas em Contagem vão de encontro a necessidade de sensibilização da população em relação ao diagnóstico, tratamento e prevenção das ISTs. “Essa capacitação vem de encontro com a necessidade de trabalhar a temática da Sífilis, sensibilizando os profissionais e a população. No último final de semana, houve testagem para diagnóstico de hepatites virais e outras infecções. Isso é um dos movimentos para que a gente trabalhe essas questões e sensibilize a população para a importância das temáticas”.
A sífilis é uma IST, causada pela bactéria Treponema pallidum, com crescente número de notificações. Quando não tratada pode trazer consequências graves para a saúde. A infecção coloca em risco não só a saúde das pessoas que praticam relação sexual sem preservativos, como também o feto durante a gestação ou parto, quando a mãe está infectada.
Teste rápido para diagnóstico e tratamento para combate à sífilis
Para realizar a testagem no município, basta ir de segunda a sexta-feira, das 8h às 17h, na Unidade Básica de Saúde – UBS de referência ou no Centro de Testagem e Aconselhamento – CTA, localizado no Centro de Atenção Especializada Iria Diniz, que fica na avenida João César de Oliveira, 3.620 – Eldorado.
