Plemont beach at the top of the island is one of my favourite places to photograph. It's prettymuch a walk down the rocks, beach and sea but if you go there enough it's easy to fall for it. Some of my other shots are in the photostream and I've also set up a set.
One of three defensive castles built on the outskirts of West Kilbride and one of only two still standing, Portencross castle sits above it's own small harbour.

Luckily the 18-55mm lens that is prettymuch standard on canon SLRs is just wide enough to get both the pole star (which my Dad calls the nail of the heavens - does that make the world a cathrine wheel?) and something which is attached to the ground into the frame.
This photo was made up from 163 seperate 30 second exposures all layered on top of each other in photoshop 7 using the lighten blend mode. Doing it that way cuts down on thermal noise as the sensor doesn't get as hot if you were to have it running on bulb mode for a similar time.
Unfortuantely my home made cable release wasn't working for this first attempt (I blame bad workmanship) so I had to take them all manually pressing the shutter button every 30 seconds for over an hour and a half. Luckily the tripod didn't move.
You can see an artifact of this process in the bottom left corner when the Scottish Air Ambulance flew through the frame and left a trail broken by the time it took me to react to fire the shutter again!
I've now fixed my cable release and added a 2 way switch in parrallel with the original button so that I can now leave the camera to do its thing without it requiring my constant attention. I will try and do more of these when the skies clear and hopefully get the object in the foreground exposed better. I also hope if I'm able to move about I won't get quite so cold!)-
Same view as the pic I uploaded yesterday, but this is prettymuch straight out of the camera with just a few dustbunnies cleaned off. I'll agree if you said it was under, but it was about the only way I could get the nice contrast in the water where the waves coming over the rocks makes it go white using ND110. It was a pretty gloomy day too :p.
but my style has become inconsistent
bear with me, it's like trying walk up the down side of the escalator.
"I just... don't get the world right now, I'm sorry" response: silence.
Nature isn't always cuddly or pretty up close, and this longhorn beetle is a prime example of that. Longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae) are found in almost all parts of the world except the poles, and you can recognise them by their long antennae that stretch beyond the length of their body. Their grubs are pests in some parts of the world where they bore into wood.
This is a large beetle (2.5cm long) and its size meant I had little choice but to use an el-nikkor 50 f/2.8. This is about 1:1ish, 3 flashes with rear sync using smallHD and HDMI matrix for the background. 75 steps at 125 um. Short 1s exposures to keep the background a darker brown; in retrospect I probably overexposed a little - or rather I had the right hand flash and diffusion on the right too close to the subject. Finished off with Topaz Detail and Alien Skin Bokeh.

While it's not the most flattering pic in the universe, I wanted to note I am down to about 198lbs, and I am noticing less subcutaneous fat around my middle. Progress. Slow progress.
As far as lifting weight, I'm prettymuch back to numbers I find respectable for me (over 1000lbs on leg press, over 250 on the incline bench, 235 on the triceps pushdowns, etc). It's been awhile since I've been at that level, and it feels good to be back. In August I'll change cycles, and start eating more, with a goal of breaking some personal bests. I still want some more weeks of getting rid of the middle. At the moment, I am around 15%, although I'd love to see 12-13%, even if it's temporary. The three slices of pizza I had today didn't help.
Weevil is the common name for certain beetles of the snout beetle family (Curculionidae) -- small, usually dull-colored, hard-bodied insects, very common.The mouthparts of snout beetles are modified into down-curved snouts, or beaks, adapted for boring into plants; the jaws are at the end of the snout. I always think they look like a mini elephant myself. The bent antennae usually project from the middle of the snout. The largest weevils are about 3 in. (7.6 cm) long, with the average length being about 1/4 in. (0.6 cm). This one was about 4mm in length so you're looking at between half and 1 mm worth of weevil. Weevils come in an assortment of bright colors but are remarkably small and hard to see. The snout varies greatly in length among the different species; in the curculios, or nut weevils, it may be longer than the body.
Many weevils are damaging to crops. The grain or wheat weevil (Sitophilus granarius) damages stored grain. Weevils can be found in dry foods including nuts and seeds, cereal and grain products, such as pancake mix. In the domestic setting, they are most likely to be observed when a bag of flour is opened. Their presence is often indicated by the granules of the infested item sticking together in strings, as if caught in a cobweb. But, all in all, weevils are a rare occurrence in the British home. They can be removed and the area sanitised with ease. Weevils in the garden, however, can cause serious damage, especially in the early summer months when grubs are hungry and seeking food. They can become a problem if left untreated. Weevils are harmless to humans. In fact the weevil family has more species in it than any other group of organisms: about 50,000 species. You can find weevils almost everywhere but especially by looking underneath leaves in the springtime evening or by noticing signs of damage to plants. Or, as was the case with us, old birdseed at the bottom of a container in the piggery outside (shed), it was crawling with these.
Technical: Technical: BG output onto SmallHD via HDMI matrix used as background; rear curtain sync .8s exposures; 304 photos into 37 sub stacks, retouched from Dmap composite, finished off with CS4, NoiseNinja & Topaz Detail. Step size of 5µm, polystyrene chip cone diffuser. Resized to reduce noise, cropped to 4:3 for emphasis. Shot made using Nikon microscope CFI BE 10X NA 0.25 8 Plan objective, in front of Pentax SMC-M 100mm & Pz-AF 1.5 TC combo == ~ 7.5:1; 3 flashes @1/64 perpendicular @3,6 &6 o clock. I should have of course used a 200mm tube but I don't happen to have one so had to settle for a TC instead. The original stack had the bottom legs in focus too but I retouched from another frame to take them out of focus and bring the antennae into sharper visibility. Worked ok but a trickier exercise than I expected... needs some work I think. You will also notice that this is as usual, and as usually annoying, marginally off centre, a fraction of a degree or so. One day I will find time to complete the universal stage that I almost have the parts for. Using a hacked off microscope to move up and down is ok but doesn't give me that 7 axis posing contraption that would really help me..

Two heavy hitters from Superman comics. I needed them to be prettymuch in scale with the minifigs, it's tricky but they're still WIP. The hip joints are pretty shit right now, but I'm sure there are better ways of working it out.
I had a different Doomsday first, but after making Mongul, I decided to use a similar atempt with him, it's worked quite good so far!

Went to Goulburn last night after work with Ant and Ian to shoot this church. We got there for an amazing sunset, and then the clouds cleared and the milky Way popped up right behind the church. Got lucky and either got a shooting star (there were so many) or a plane in this one. I've only increased the contrast and vibrance in this...otherwise, prettymuch straight out of the camera. Genius thinking from Ant to light the church using the headlights from the passing cars on the highway. 10/10 for thinking of this mate

This is RA4 paper shot in-camera, developed first in Ilford multigrade B&W developer, re-exposed, and then developed in RA4. Another fail unfortunately, I have the colour correction prettymuch down, but they're overexposed. Fundamental problem is that even in good light the exposure times are about 1 to 2 minutes. So it's useless for portrait work. This is Ljiljana doing her best to sit still for an entire minute and a half but I think it's impossible. I think I might just go back to straight RA4 paper negatives and abandon attempts to reversal process them.

I like this old camera... its fun to hold.
I spent my whole weekend trying to figure out what to photograph and I had no ideas becasue i was prettymuch in my house all weekend, then i remembered this old camera so I thought it would be fun to take pictures of it! Also I went to a camera store and checked out the Canon Rebel t3i and the Canon EOS D60 and the Canon EOS D7. Those cameras are amazing. I also checked out a Nikon but I forgot what it was called. close to $2,000 though :)
Last week I noticed that Devvu`s lymph nodes got bigger. We went to vet and took different analyses. News are unfortunately bad. Devvu has cancer (lymphoma). There is prettymuch nothing left to do :(. We hope that she will stay for us as long as possible.
Spent the day playing with my mac cause ive been sick and laid up in bed. Cusotmized prettymuch everything here. I might switch my system font to regular helvetica instead of condensed buuut we'll see :). Answering any questions you may have. Just ask!

I used to love metal and hard rock before I found more enjoyment in the underground scene. System of a Down seemed a lot more sophistocated to me than some of the other bands playing on the radio during those years, and this song was one which I often snowboarded to back on the mountain.
During the summer, this song was constantly stuck in my head, especially during wilderness survival camp.
So the other day when I walked into the art room and found it blaring through the speakers (I had nothing to do with this, I promise), I was convinced I had to paint it. But not everyone really appreciates System of a Down, and understandably so -- it is, after all, an aquired taste.
Lead singer, Serj Tankian, has one of the most unusual and impressive voices I've ever seen. Ranging from a lovely shade of subdued turquoise to bright yellowish-orange, and occasionally flacked with gray, it's sometimes hard to keep up with.
Most preccussion is brown, silver, gray, and black; and medium-range tones on electric guitar is violent, jagged red. There are some higher notes here which also reach lime green (one of the highest-colored notes that isn't an impossible shade of bright, bright white).
The other singer has a voice which is almost plastic blue.
And if you remember the painting I did for Seether, you'll recognize the orange coming out of the black as the sound of someone throwing their voice. It's hard to tell who's who while this is going on, since most thrown voices all sound prettymuch the same with a few unusual exceptions (including Billy Talent and Anti-Flag).
This painting was done in encuastic and will soon be listed for sale on etsy.

A set of two train cars in the middle of the Old Harnischfeger building in Escanaba MI. This place probably has over 100,000 dollars in scrap metal laying around and enough firewood to burn down NYC. Its prettymuch the forgotten center of this town as it is HUGE being atleast 1 mile by a half mile of just abandoned junk and massive buildings.
View from Jake and I's tent at Burning Man. We were staying at the "Get Out of Drama Free" Camp, which was 100% drama-free zone. Naturally, there were a lot of people hanging around our site because of the nature of our group - every person there was a real delight to be around!
The tent in the photo is the kitchen tent, and the bikes are mind and Jake's. To the right, out of frame, was a dome tent made from metal pipes and a vintage Vietnam parachute. We had blankets and pillows inside to encourage cuddle puddles.
I found myself sleeping there during the hottest point of the day with Jake beside me. Most of the rest of the daytime hours were spent wandering the Playa alone without him. At night, we'd meet up again and head out to look for parties.
On one night, when we were both really stoned, we stumbled onto a live concert. It took me a while to realize that I recognized one of the songs...and then I realized that the band I was listening to was Infected Mushroom - a band I've been a fan of since 7th grade! I still remembered all the words to their songs, and was completely beside myself when they played two of my favorites back-to-back.
We'd had no idea that they were playing that night. We just kind of happened upon them.
So I guess the first time I ever saw Infected Mushroom live was at Burning Man....while high. A pretty impressive feat, considering how many people I know who would prettymuch eat their own toes for an opportunity like that. And I experienced the whole ordeal on complete accident.
Just another taste of Playa Magic for you!
Maybe a little overprocessed, but I still like it. Shot yesterday in my hotel, after a LONG two weeks traveling the US west coast. Those black circles under my eyes prettymuch demonstrate how exhausted I was (and still am).
I'm not sure I like the pose... it looks like I have some sort of freakishly gigantic chest, which I really don't :)

Caught this shot using my lovely and fantastic Voigtlander 21mm f4 lens. Such a beautiful compact little lens. Great for street photography coming in as a 31.5mm equivalent on my X-Pro1. I prettymuch just zone focused all my shots and they all came out lovely! :D

this was my first ever attempt at using my new wireless remote I won from the Josten's contest I entered! I was so frustrated and couldnt get it to work and then I realized that when I was holding the camera I was covering the remote censor. ha. what a dummbo.

this is my kitchen. its yellow. and in the background is my mom on her crutches =[ she broke her ankle at Kwik Kar because they didnt cover a big hole and she fell in it!!!

so on my recent trip to Spokane i was waiting in the line for airport security. this little girl was with her mom and grandpa and was quite distressed that grandpa had to go over into another security line. she was prettymuch unconsolable and her mom was having no luck. i happened to be right behind them, and was pulling out my camera for the security guys to check so i showed it to her, asked her if she knew what it was and told her she neded to stop crying and smile for the camera.
It at least quelled her tears until they were through security.
